Well,I have come to the utter realization that you pure and simply no longer like Prince because every thread that I ever see with your post is never anything but pure unadulterated hate!!!Anyway, this new song was flat, boring, and utterly worthless. Yet ANOTHER song about how his online fans "don't know him" and that they should "give him what he needs". "Turn Me Loose" makes "Get on the Boat" look like Mozart.  Give it a rest already.
And what kind of band was that? About a hundred people on stage. The only bright spot was Renato, who is a real trooper to lower himself to play such beautiful keys to such low quality music -- what a mess of a song. Embarrassingly bad -- a performance and song that wouldn't appeal to a person who was 18 or 80 or even the mentally ill. I felt ashamed watching it with my girl.

I think that nothing exciting is happening in Prince's life, therefore his music is suffering big time. Back in the day, the group he spent the most time with influenced him and contributed a lot more than the people he spends time with today.
Prince has become even more introverted and doesn't allow anyone to contribute anything, Paisley Park is like a tomb, and again, Prince's life has seen many tragedies. Basically, like everyone else's life. Prince's refusal to actually write about those tragic events, how he really feels, and his insistence to try and put a positive spin on life is his music's undoing. A song like Anna Stesia was great because it went from pain to faith. The message was I was in a bad place, I felt lost, and now I realize my mistake and I'm looking to God for an answer. Even as an agnostic, I can appreciate that message, that he was in a bad place and he will look for an answer somewhere else. Prince's music today feels false because it is false. His albums don't feel like albums because they aren't; they're just collections of songs from the Vault. The only really true album Prince has released in a long, long time is The Rainbow Children. How do I know this? Because it's the only album he's really played live on tour. Michael Dean said on one of his podcasts that he can tell if a Prince album is a real Prince album based on whether or not Prince has enough faith in the music to play it live... TRC, The Come/Gold material. Diamonds and Pearls... Symbol... Lovesexy, SOTT, Parade, ATWIAD... you see... theh old albums! Prince's fans know Prince better than Prince knows himself. I know Prince hates to hear it, and steam is probably fuming from his ears, but it's a message he's gotta hear. And he also hates when he talk down about Larry Graham. Prince... in all seriousness... what's happened to your skills? That's just how it is on fansites. You have people who claim to not find Prince or his music interesting yet they still visit fansites and dedicate time talking about him. i will never understand that in a million years. If you recall people have been complaining about Prince's music in that manner for the past 15 years. If you have been around long enough you'll be used to this. from what I understand this very board was nothing but complaints until the Musicology tour rolled out and people could not deny how much of a good time they were having. Sure sometimes when he goes into his personal stuff,many fans flame him so he can do nothing right to some of you and if he plays one of his old hits he is said to resting on his past so he really has no way to win with some of you but I thought that at least the performance would put to bed the hip replacement rumors. I think that he gave a great performance and it was great to see Mr. Hayes up there jamming once again with P. Who knows what this new music will bring but I will be sticking around to hear like I always have since the 1st album. Call a Fam or fan but he is my favorite and I'm sticking with the Kid!!! | |

OK. We had the horn players from Grupo Fantasma, the hubby and wife on bass and drums, Shelby, Marva and Ledisi as the church lady back ups, Renato on lead keys and P on guitar.
Who, pray tell, was the brotha with the dreads on second keys? Thanks to all who translated the lyrics. I'm glad P is back to singing about what happens in the bedroom. I always felt he was at his best in that genre. He's got more sexual charisma in his pinky than any 10 white rock stars. I remember about a year ago when someone posted that Viagra was made from Prince's performance sweat... and that they had to dilute it so people wouldn't OD. That had me fallin' out my chair laughin'. | |

here's a few things I liked
funky song no more twins no signs of necessary hip replacement no more introduction of being called prince and the npg (just Prince) still playin his beloved hoener guitar cool band, cool horn section, and the backup singers will work well at Coachella the things I didn't like the song was short I'm pissed I couldn't go see it live cuz he played 3 songs I would have actually enjoyed the fire alarm/evacuation adventure Jay Leno's jokes weren't as funny(time for new writers perhaps) The guests were so boring I was truely falling asleep  but you know

i wasn't blown away by his performance, but i wasn't intending to be. it wasn't that kind of party. it was a loose, breezy, light-hearted performance to promote an outdoor music festival, and that's the energy he brought to the tonight show performance. it was what it was. it wasn't disappointing to me because i wasn't expecting him to bring something revelatory. i got a chuckle out of the lawn chair ladies. i like them better than the twinz. | |
