Well as nice as the 'somewhere here on earth" is, every women who likes Prince is going to try to get to him in some form or other, hope he realized this when he put that song out, but there is only one soulmate. Will he even know if she were standing in front of him?, as long as he keeps looking for her with his eyes and not his soul he will not ever find her, a women's looks fade, but if she has good honest heart that is what should matter. What if his soul mate is not a brown beauty like he is used to? He must look deeper than the physical. Now that I have come off of my soap box, I like the album it is deep and fun....

This song is beautiful.

I'll disagree though and offer that I think the sounds he chose work really well together on this track. I'm a big fan of Prince melding synthesized sounds and "organic" natural instruments and analog electric instruments... "Adore" is probably his best example as it melds the synthesized sounds of the drum machine and sitar with the "natural" sounds of sax and muted trumpet, and the analog electric sounds of Wurlitzer, organ, and bass. Just sounds more interesting to me than recordings where he goes all natural ("Slow Love") or all synthesized (most of Newpower Soul).

The subtle intro of vinyl record noise is a nice touch -- sure, it's been done a thousand times before, but it really sets a mood here, and the music matches and sustains it. Three songs in and the production on this album is already better than anything he's done in ages... at least since The Rainbow Children.

The song itself is slight and I'm ambivalent about his vocal performance. That opening line kind of makes me cringe as it's slightly affected and clipped. It gets better a few lines in and as I said elsewhere, it's growing on me.

Overall I have to admit there's a lot to like about this track. It didn't hit me well at first but then again neither did songs like "Adore" or "Anna Stesia." I don't this song is in their league but it's a solid track.

Been a Prince fan for almost 25 years... the first few chords of Somewhere Here On Earth made the hair on my arms stand up and drew me in which hasn't happened to me in a very long time. My favorite ballad from Prince since Adore... my opinion. Somewhere Here On Earth and Future Baby Mama are the best ballads Prince has released in a very long time.

Yeah, I dig this cut a lot. Very sensual....for me, P tends to be hit or miss with these type of songs...this one hits the spot for sure.

I absolutely love this song the minute I heard it. Prince voice is so beautiful. Love everything about it.

Just love this ballad...my fav by P in quite some time. Takes me back 2 the For You/Prince era but with a more mature and lush sound. Love the Miles sounding trumpet in there. Been playing it in my store and let me tell u just about everyone pauses and takes it in....A+ on this one.

The rest of the song reminds me of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World Stripped down, somehow.

But I love the fact most it stands on it's own and though it evokes other Prince songs, maybe or different Prince era's, it stands firmly on it's own.

The thing I am loving the most is that he used a friggin' 6/8 time signature!

I totally missed this when I heard the first crappy download of the song. He varies the standard 1-4 accent with a jazz accent on the 2-3 and 5-6. It makes it feel like he gets so overwhelmed with emotion that he actually breaks into a waltz -- without actually changing the time signature!

The waltz-ish time signature is something else this song has in common with Power Fantastic, which is actually written in 3/4 time.

This is why I love him...

I actually like this one. Nice feel, vocals and the lyrics have a pleasing air on melancholy. Probably my favourite on the album.

You can tell he was trying to do an adore. He comes mighty close, to be honest. This is one really pretty song with complex music and deft song writing. All I can say is it is about time you big headed fuck..lol

I like this one a lot but don't love it. The trumpet and piano is great, nice touch.

I rarely fall for the ballads on albums first, but there is something so special about this one. This is currently my favorite track from ‘Planet Earth’.

‘Somewhere Here on Earth’ opens as if a classic recording on vinyl, you can hear the sputtering and crackling as the record lazily spins round and round. Then the torch song begins, slow and sultry, with the tinkling of piano keys and the sparse accompaniment of horns. This track is a winner.

I get a Stylistics/Delfonics/Smokey Robinson vibe out of this song, very classic and smooth R&B; love the falsetto voice in this song. I can see this doing well in the R&B and top 40 if not top 25 charts.

What a beautiful idea for a song. A love ballad to his future love, and his genuine hopefulness and the gorgeous trumpet are what make it so sad and touching. This song is perfection, in every way...
