Who is on trumpet?

Which trumpet ? I've only heard a poor synth trying to sound like a trumpet, with tremolo and vibrato done with roll bar or pedal...

I guess Tommy Barbarella is on that thing, but he did better to end the guitar solo on Endorphine Machine.

The flute sound is very nice, between Beatles Melotron and Clare Fisher arrangements on Parade indeed.

Pretty nice song, but get rid off synths if they're just here to imitate real instruments, and engage a real trumpet player ! Too bad Miles Davis is dead...

Thats a synth?
christ i want that Synth
Sounds exactly like Miles smoky horn

Well let's say I'm almost sure it's a synth... If it's trumpet the sound is too cold, has no breath...

If U need a trumpet, call a trumpet player ! Synths are cool to create new sounds. But real instruments sounds are best to give the soulfulness of their players.

Björk knows that very well.

it's not a snyth but perhaps it's either lee hogans or mike phillips on trumpet
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

...ok it may not be a synth but a real trumpet ???

So what's the use of recording a live instrument - a horn - without its sensual breath ?

What's the use of money if... U don't use it 2 make great production ?

I still feel it's not a real trumpet. Maybe a kinda sampled one ?

I hope we soon hear that song "live" !

Beautiful song, ggreat melody, delicious arrangement.
Even though it's not the most original thing ever, this song is one of the few Prince songs of the last 10 years or so that actally shows class.

this is the digital age bro, you don't hear breaths anymore in vocals, cause engineers edit them out...

That's his signature move.

CHRISTIAN SCOTT ON PRINCE'S NEW ALBUM 'PLANET EARTH': Trumpeter Appears on the Track 'Somewhere Here on Earth.'
(August 1, 2007)
Email to a friend | Print Friendly

New York, NY - Grammy nominated trumpeter Christian Scott makes an appearance on the critically acclaimed new album from Prince, Planet Earth, which was released on July 24, 2007.

Christian appears on the track "Somewhere Here on Earth" which has been a stand out in reviews from both the critics and fans. Prince was first introduced to Christian's music by talk show/radio host Tavis Smiley. He quickly became a fan and contacted Christian.

Shortly there after Christian was on a plane and in the studio with Prince recording music for what would be Planet Earth, as well as performing some of the new material live on stage with Prince at his venue in Las Vegas, 3121 in the Rio Hotel.

"'Somewhere Here on Earth' ranks up with the best of Prince's ballads. Accentuated by Christian Scott's sexy, muted trumpet, the elegant 'Somewhere Here on Earth' casts of wistful splendor." - BET

"'Somewhere Here on Earth' seduces with a crackly jazz vibe." - Amazon

"There's a sense of patience rewarded, hearing the feathery tremolo guitars and female backing coos in 'The one U Wanna C' - a slice of pure pop cut from the same pie as

'Raspberry Beret' - or the return of his Delfonics falsetto on 'Somewhere Here on Earth' and 'Future Baby Mama.'" - Entertainment Weekly

"More successful is 'Somewhere Here on Earth,' a slow jam with a muted trumpet up front as Prince rues the BlackBerry era: In this digital age/You could just page me/I know it's the rage/But it just don't engage me." - SF Weekly

The appearance on Prince's album comes just a month before Concord Records will release Christian's sophomore album, Anthem. Hitting stores on August 28, Anthem is a powerful collection of 12 tracks teeming with jazz, fusion, rock, neo-soul and hip-hop. The tracks on the album give us a taste of Christian's hometown, New Orleans, and the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Katrina, however it also reflects the many changes Scott has gone through since releasing his debut album, Rewind That. Released on March 28, 2006, Rewind That received rave reviews from the press. Billboard Magazine named him one of the "Top Ten to Watch in 2006." The LA Daily News raved, "The major-label debut from this jazz trumpeter has been generating no small amount of hype - and in this case, the accolades are deserved. Rewind That is the real deal."

...

OK here is the evidence.

Why do I feel so disappointed ?

Digital era, did you say Embattled... ? No problem with that, who made the choice to sound this trumpet so cold ?

I'll listen 2 the album of C. Scott at least for checking the quality of his own sound. I'm almost sure it will be "warmer" more "natural"...

Thanx 4 keeping us informed, Jonnny...
