2 New Songs Aired On Howard Stern's Show Today

Listening to Howard Stern show this monday am. Prince sent Howard 2 new songs and they will be played on Sirius 100 today!!!!! Prince is asking for them to speculate if those songs will be played at the Superbowl.

Howard said the songs sound like a mix between Foo Fighters and Jimi Hendrix. biggrin

Update:
Howard played the song. The show replays a couple times a day on channel 100. The song is played about an hour or so into the show. You can try to get online for free and listen at www.sirius.com Not sure if the Stern show streams for free??? I think the show replays at around noon..

It's not an instrumental, Prince sings. Guessing it is part of the new Guitar album?!???!!

Stern said some nice things about Prince, but still busted on him a little (I won't sugar coat it) but thats what the Stern show is all about. He did ask them to speculate if he would play this at the Superbowl!!!

Here's a wrapup of the conversation from www.marksfriggin.com
*****
Howard came back from break as Fred was playing a Van Halen song. Howard said that they may be going back out on tour with David Lee Roth soon. Howard said that Prince sent him two songs that have never been released. He said that he wanted him to play them but Robin said she really should be on the phone if that story is true. Howard said he's not sure about it either but they checked into it and they were told that Prince is a fan of Howard's and he wants him to play these songs. Howard said Gary had a story about them that was kind of weird.

Gary came in and said that they sent the songs over and asked Howard to speculate on whether or not Prince would play them live at the Super Bowl. Howard said he thought they were live performances but Gary said he didn't get that when he heard them.

Howard had the Prince songs that he was talking about earlier. He and Gary said that the song was a mix of Jimi Hendrix's ''All Along the Watchtower'' and the Foo Fighters ''Best of You.'' Howard started to play the song and figured it wasn't live like he had thought earlier. He said he was getting chills hearing him sing and kind of like the song. Gary said he kind of likes it too. Robin said she doesn't understand why he'd mix those two songs. Howard told her that's because she doesn't understand the genius of Prince.

Artie asked Howard if he's ever met Prince. Howard said he was at some show one time and ran into him quickly. Artie said he met him once at The Fashion Cafe one day. He took a friend to the place one day when it was still around and they stuck Prince next to him and his friend in this VIP area. Artie said the guy is tiny, he's only like 5 feet tall. Artie said he told Prince that Raspberry Beret was a great song and he got a ''Thanks'' from him before he was whisked away.

Howard said he and Gary were watching an old performance that he did one time. He said he really is a great guitar player and he's very underrated.

Has this already been aired? I suppose not yet, right? I wonder if this is linked to the new "Guitar" song in any way? Propably not, because the cover shows some of the lyrics and they are not from one of the sings, I think.

Good rock version lots of geetar. Gary liked the song. Howard said he was bored but midway thru he paused and said he still got chills when he heard Prince sing. Howard said Prince is so far ahead of other artists. Howard has always been a little upset Prince never came on the show to do an interview.

I wish Sirius and Prince would do a show. P get's payed and we would get music. You pay for the content and exclusive shit on Sirius. Seems like the way to go with the record co's dying from downloading.

Unfornatley, I don't think Stern is usaully part of the free previews because once they did make him part of a free preview, it was a big promotional deal, with commericals and all. I just heard it, too. It sounded great but apparently there was something strange about them playing it. Whoever sent it to them said something to the effect of after they played it they would have to gues if he would play it on the Superbowl....I'm assuming yes?

After hearing this, I'm assuming Guitar is some sort of album.

So they played snippets of it instead of the whole thing AND paused it midway through? neutral

it's a bit of a shame though that they totally butcher the airing
of the song. they keep stopping it and adding comments and stuff.

i bet it was done intentionally to keep the tracks from leaking. this way, they still leak, you still get to hear 'em, but you can't really groove out to em unless you buy the downloads or single or whatever they'll end up on (if indeed they end up on ANYthing - this is prince, after all...we may never hear this stuff again).

i'm not relying on prince to release this stuff. it sounds far too good
and driven and loose. prince'll be like "it needs more cowbell".

nah, i'm just crossing my fingers some greedy co-worker of stern made a
copy of the songs and leaks them before long

instead, we'll probably end up with a CD single of "feel good, feel wonderful" with six house remixes by DJ Fluffy P or some foolishness. sad

Before I heard it I'm thinking "He should have combined it with something original" or maybe nothing, but now it seems to be his way of saying to the FooF's "This is how you cover someone"

I like it.
A lot.

i don't think these are two songs though, it's one song,
blending the two songs into one new composition sort of.
the slower parts from aatw and then the rocky fast track
of the foo fighters song.

eek "Best of You" is a bonified Ass Kicker!! The original is one of my faves from the foo figters, but Prince takes it up about 30 notches. I cant wait to hear an un-commentated version.

note to Prince: PLEASE dont "spruce" this up. raw is good.

Just Googled "Howard Stern noise removal plugin". Couldn't find anything. Hope a better version turns up soon, too.

I hope he puts this up online somewhere, and soon! I can only imagine what this sounds like and how awesome it must be! Combined with a new song called "Guitar" that he most likely will be playing at the Superbowl...it's sorta like the '3121' hype machine, but actually done right.

Awww, c'mon, let me have this one.....let's withhold the dream-dashing until next week, when we know that he only played a medley of "Let's Go Crazy" and "Betcha By Golly, Wow!" at the Super Bowl.... lol

another unlikely (and totally random) thought -

how fun would it be if prince were playing around with mash-ups these days? if the watchtower/foos medley thingie were the b-side of a single called "guitar", whch mashes all his best guitar licks into one song...THIS jaded fan would be famming out all over again. drool

I don't quite know how we got from the announcement of a new download to a new album called 'Guitar' so fast! There's no evidence for that. There's a track called Guitar with new lyrics. Then you have Prince sending this stadium-rock mashup of Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower (starting at the 2nd verse it would appear) and the Foo Fighter's Best Of You to foul-mouthed Howerd Stern. Why? The mind boggles. Assuming he is intending to surprise people with these songs at the Superbowl, why ruin the surprise by giving advanced notice? Though it would still be a shock for many Prince doing covers at the Superbowl and new songs... we'll just have to wait and see. A guitar driven rock album from Prince would be the greatest gift you could give me right now, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, Prince rarely follows the obvious, logical route.
