This thread probably wouldn't draw so many different reactions if Prince himself had not began acting like he was through with the phony glitz and glare of Hollywood entertainment. Now he's their own private minstrel show. But then again thats the Prince we love full of contradictions. There's no doubt about it he loves the company of the "stars" if he didn't he wouldn't have been showing up at all their affairs and hanging out with them the way he does and that's cool with me but even though I don't quite understand it.

Now he's their own private minstrel show.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to saying that. That doesn't seem like P allowing anybody to force him to be anything like that. He just does what he wants to do because he can. I'm sure he gets a lot of requests from celebrities. I see no harm in it really, because Prince isn't going to send out a questionnaire asking fans where he is allowed to play or who to play for. Fans just miss him doing tours I guess, now that's just my humble opinion.

Furthermore, if he does a tour right now, the first thing everybody is going to say is that "he must need the money" because of the divorce. I doubt that seriously if he does. If that was the case, he would have needed it 5-6 months ago, when he was promoting Tamar, he could have headlined the show "Prince w/special guest Tamar" and could have charged us an arm, leg, knee and some ears, but he didn't. It only cost $31.21, and although it was Tamar's show and P was the special guest,it was great knowing a fan was able to see him there.

.
Now the prices for Vegas is a different story, and I have no regrets about it.

Well like I said before I don't have a problem with him doing what he wants when he wants but I would say he is their minstrel show. They are the type to say "Its nice to see Prince is back and then request Purple Rain". They are all just chasing the flavor of the month. There will probably be few there who have supported or appreciated his work in the last 10 years. They'll just be there to be amused by the little purple freak. Like I said thats cool too but those people definitely don't make up his loyal fanbase.

I find it real funny when people make negative comments about him hanging around celebrities or performing for them. Whether it's a contradiction or not Prince does not need our permission to go anywhere or do anything. lol

I'm all for Prince hangin' with celebrities and enjoying that "next" level of fame and stardom. The man has earned it!

Honestly, I can't believe it's taken him THIS long to give into the Hollywood scene. He's been holed up in MPLS for so long this is a nice break. More exposure to people who know people.

My only problem is that it seems the new "Hollywood" mentality seriously interfered with the normal promotion/evolution of 3121. No tour, VERY limited TV spots - instead choosing to cater to VIPs and become a glorifid lounge act.

How exactly did he cater to VIPs? He had a string a shows with Tamar at the beginning of the year, three nights in Las Vegas which included soundcheck, as well as the aftershow in NYC in June and a BET aftershow, all of which fans had the opportunity to go and have an incredible time. I don't consider that only catering to VIPs.

Now I can get with this argument. I don't know what's up in Prince's mind or camp but if this is what's up, then he'll pay for it, no doubt about that. We all reap what we sow to.

Be it that that is not the case, then what's wrong with him playing for people who only want to hear Little Red Corvette, Lets Go Crazy or "shaking at the thought" Purple Rain? Based on what I've read here at the org the last couple of months, you'd think that most people here would only want to hear the stuff from 1978-1996 too so what gives? Cause we'll get it and they won't? You think they won't be feeling Lolita live and you will even if you hate it on the album? Things that make me say mmmmm.

Now would I want to be there? Hell yeah but I won't and I'm fine with that. This I really feel is a business move and for all we know, something big may come out of this party alone if things move in the right direction and we'll receive all the benefits from it. Too many of us are looking at how empty the glass is instead of what's already in it. Pardon me for being just a tad bit optimistic but let's wait and see what happens on Sunday.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Anyway I doubt seriously if he gives a d*** about the name-calling, he has thick skin, He can take it obviously, he doesn't let anyone define him. He's making the big duckets, like they say, money talks, bs walks, so I guess all the bs can keep walking because bs and name-calling isn't hurting his pockets lol lol

Like anything else in Princeworld after he bores of them or viceversa which ever comes first he'll be back to denouncing them and performing in small theaters. So there is really no need to take his new found fondness for celebrities that serious anyway.

Just kidding. I saw him twice this year, (Mia and Vegas) so I'm good. It's football season anyway, so I won't be bothering him for awhile. He can take time out and chill with his celeb pals.

I'm so glad the man does whatever the hell he wants because every single move of his (personal or professional) is nothing but the latest excuse for some people to bitch about him. Every single time.

Prince IS a celebrity. Hanging out with other celebrities is not new or weird. He plays music for everybody, famous and non-famous fans, always has. If he's playing for two hours with a 10-piece band, I certainly hope somebody somehow leaks a detailed review. I may not be there, but I'm not going to put down people who get the pleasure of enjoying that concert or attack Prince for accepting to play at this occasion. Where is it written that fans have to be privileged to everything he does. He shares enough of his life and creations with the world. He certainly should have the right to choose when, where and how he does this.

You said it. He has been sharing his creations and his life with us for more than 20 years and you'd think we'd appreciate that. I am so glad he does what he wants and could careless about what negative things others say about him. Shows that he doesn't let anybody define who he is. He deserves the right to perform for whomever he wants.

So Prince if you happen to stop by this forum, "Thanks for sharing your music with all who appreciates it. Do your thing, be the "Prince" that you are and I hope all goes well tomorrow night!" wink : Rock on!! guitar guitar

but madonna doesn't bitch about the industry and how it works only to turn around and use the same methods for herself. to me there's just a difference because prince acts like he's above it all when really hes just as desperate as the rest of them to stay relevant. why else would he host so many celebrity events for free if not to feel relevant in hollywood? then he charges his fans 312 bucks after entertaining millionaires for free and bragging about it on his website.

So did I, both shows as a matter of fact. Both shows were awesome! I didn't give a damn who criticized me for going and the money spent. At least I got to see him and enjoyed soundcheck and both shows. Even drove out to the GMAs, well worth it. Now the same ones that criticized me for going are b***** because they said back in May they they would rather wait for a tour this year, and look what happened? No tour, and who knows if he will even bother to do large venues again. Especially with all the negative remarks he gets from some fans from this site as though he's suppose to be perfect. Now they can call me a sheep if they will, "baaaaa" lol I couldn't give a d***, all I know is I had a great time seeing Prince perform this year.

Now if he decides not to tour, then I probably wouldn't blame him. If he decides he would rather do celebrity events, well I can't blame him for that either, because he did make himself available to fans a lot this year at several small venues for a decent price, even though he took a backseat and let the light shine on someone else, but the point is, he still made himself available.

I can say that he seemed pretty satisfied with the fans who did make an effort to come out and see him and appreciated it, instead of giving a hoot about the ones that didn't come out to support him, who just sit behind a computer and b**** and complain about him all day and call themselves his fans. Now the closing of the site, one will never know the reason; sure I miss it because of the friends I made there, but it was coming to a point where fans were just battling each other over there and it wasn't as friendly anymore, so as far as I'm concerned it was definitely time for a change. Should he decide to open a new site and it's just for purchasing his music only, well that's fine too, because that's what it's all about anyway, the music.
