"while continuing to ignore the people who actually buy tickets and records, superstar Prince will be entertaining Paris Hilton and friends at the emmy aftershow."

-----

How is he ignoring people who buy tickets and records. He does small club shows for his fans and even had fans at his house.

WTF do you guys want him to do restrict himself from other celebraties.
Please stop playing like Prince did that for free. Please. i was in Vegas at 312 bucks a pop.

Once again, and again and again I am reminded how much I don't really dig this guy lately.

Come on guys, Prince was all over the place in 2006 giving fans the opportunity to see him whether he was a special guest or not, point is he was available. What got me is that it was heavily advertised that it was Tamar's show, not Prince's show--he was the special guest. Well-known musicians do it all the time, you know, take a backseat and let the light shine on a new artist. Nothing wrong with giving a new artist a chance. Just because it's Prince doesn't mean he can't have new artists perform with him. You had a choice to go or not go.

He just did a major tour in 2004 for goodness sakes, less than 3 years ago, not bad, and recently small venues--whether he was the main act or not. Point is, he was available, and I'm sure he will surprise us soon and do what he does best for his fans--give us a nice show.

I wonder if Madonna fans are mad because they paid over 300 bucks to see her.

okay, madonna fans get pyrotechnics, big ol' hydraulic crosses that light up, a dance troupe juggling chainsaws, 1,000 costume changes and a troupe of basketball playing capuchin monkeys as part of the stage show.

prince fans get larry graham and his lovely wife towellie tina. if we're lucky.

not that i'm complaining (i'd see prince over madonna anytime, no matter how spectacular her stage show is), but the numbers and the value don't really add up, if you really wanna argue that way.

Okay so what your saying is if had chose to go to Madonna's show:

I would have seen a bunch of dancers juggling chainsaws, which tells me I could compare that to the horror flick "Saw 1 and 2", or could have seen these juggling fools audition for the trilogy for the movie "Chainsaw Massacre" or Barnum and Bailey's next circus? Where the show would be available in Anytown, USA?shake

OR

Could have watched Madonna heave herself up on a big religious cross all lit up and everything like a Xmas tree and could have possibly crashed down on the audience, no no no! feeling ill pray
OR

Could have seen a bunch of basketball playing capuchin monkeys who were probably missing from the local zoo, and I could have fed them some bananas and challenge them to a game of basketball?.monkey eek lol lol

But if I chose to see Prince's show:

I'd get to see a well-known bassist, Larry Graham, come up on stage for a few minutes to show support for Prince, while Larry's wife looks on from the audience. Then I'd get in to soundcheck, get a chance to see Prince mingle a little with his fans. Then watch him perform some classics and new songs from the 3121 album. See Tamar sing with her beautiful voice while the Twinz sing backup and dance, appreciate watching Morris and Cora participate in the band. Watch and enjoy seeing Prince fans being called up on stage to dance, sing and have a d*** good time having the opportunity to be on stage with a famous musician, and audience members singing, stomping, and clapping their hands because they're having a d*** good time at the show, and when it's over, we leave with a purple high and great memories.

Well d*** Anx!!, with that being said you have to know I'd choose.. Prince! ! prince yes eye crysball

let us not forget that i too know the taste of purple kool-aid....all too well, in fact.

you probably thought you done scorched my madonna-loving, prince-haterparadin' booty with your famtrocious rantology, no?

PEEP THIS, RIGHTEOUS ONE: i wouldn't pay three hundred bucks to see madonna OR prince. i was posing an argument for the sake of argument.

if i WERE a madonna fan, first of all i would have made peace a long time ago with the fact that i'm not gonna get musical virtuosity at a madonna concert. it's pure entertainment. it's the madonna circus. and for three hundred bucks, if i get grade A eye candy while my pop music diva is doing her little yoga dances in the middle of it all, then boy howdy!

personally, that's not my thing. YES, i realize all the flash and production is to compensate for the fact that madge isn't a talented live musician. that's not exactly an industry secret, people. lol

and even though i think she's a great ENTERTAINER, i wouldn't drop three hundred bucks on her dainty pootypuss. i know a lot of people who WOULD pay it, and who HAVE, and god bless them.

now, would i pay $300 to watch prince noodling with larry and for a show that's over halfway comprised of tamar stuff? no.

or, more specifically, HELL NO.

i've seen the man many times. just because prince is doing a show doesn't mean i gotta be there. and this hasn't exactly been a year of inspired live performance for prince. he's always great on stage, don't get me wrong, but for $300 i want at LEAST a musicology tour-quality show. i want a hot set list and i want an assigned seat. none of this general admission stuff (unless of course i pay the BIG BIG bucks to schmooze with the velvet ropers, that is).

you can pour it in a platinum grail if you want, or you can pour it in a paper cup. either way, purple kool-aid is purple kool-aid. shrug

Nowhere in my statement did I say I was mad I paid 300 dollars to see Prince. I enjoyed the hell outta both shows. The problem I have now and then was this namedropping BS. Most of them folks probably less than two strokes and a pump about Prince, they just care that he's the flavor of the month.

And this is not about Prince's availability to his fans, it's about how he treats them.

Dude, the velvet ropers were not trying to scmooze with us in Vegas. They didn't even want us touching the damn velvet rope and when the velvet ropers got tired of trying to see over our heads, they jumped said velvet rope and pushed their way to the front. Some rich people and celebrities are complete and total assholes. If it means I gotta go through that again to be at an intimate Prince show, fuck that all to hell.

Hey that's cool, I ain't mad at ya lol lol we both made our points, the beauty of free speech. I just see Madonna as a circus act that's all, it wasn't really directed at you personally, just was having fun with it. I just sponged off of what you mentioned in your post that's all.

Hey, at that club in Vegas, keep in mind the price those rich ones paid, they had to get up once the show was over, so that the club's rich folks could sit at those tables. Not to mention, that they had to stand up on the tables so they could see over the fans' heads as well. I wished that I could have had a seat too, but that didn't happen, what can I say, it's all about the money!

Hey by the way, love your cup, and the "RIGHTEOUS ONE" statement is amusing lol lol lol biggrin

yeah, that was one of my pet peeves about Vegas. The fans should have had the option to sit down if they wanted to without paying 1000.00.

I do agree about not liking the general admission. When you have seats you can enjoy the show better. It's too bad that some of these small venues don't have seats close enough to the stage where you don't have to worry about so many people standing and blocking your view. I'm sure he's heard many suggestions about this. The thing is, I happen to like the small venue shows aside from all the headaches that come with general admission.

I don't know, I just feel he connects better with fans in a smaller venue, than in some large arena.

He needs to buy or rent out some small venues and set it up to make it comfortable for fans when he decides to perform in one of them.

I was so glad to be in Vegas, on the sexond night, I would have gladly sat down without a view of Prince. I was at a BB King concert Saturday and couldn't even see the stage but I was seated and BB was playing the hell out of Lucille.

And I do feel you on the small venue thing. I definately dug how he seemed to feel comfortable just walking around or talking to the fans and cracking jokes.

Hey, stop making me like him again. mad

So are you gonna tell me who you are? lol
