Prince & The Revolution-LIVE!: Like it or not???

I was not too happy when I saw this tape 4 the 1st time(Which was yesterday) but there're sevral good moments in it:

Do me baby-I could do without the "Do you love me" intro tho

God-The whole is just AMAZING. "What are you looking at??hmm" and the conversation between him and "god" is kinda cool.

HCYDCMAM-I can't barely hear the piano. "Tell me darling, does yo man have an ass like this??" booty! LOL

Irrisistable Bitch-FUNKY!!!

Possesed-MIGHTY FUNKY!!!

It's ok at best. The photography, even for 1985, is just the pits. Most if not all of the spoken parts-which were way too long-- needed to edited out. And the When Doves Cry mirror image is just gaudy. barf

I have a problem with how dark some of the scenes are. You can barely see what's happening.

The best part by far is Purple Rain at the end. I love to see Prince get so emotional. You can see him start to cry. His playing is pure, raw emotion. I actually teared up the first time I watched it.

Ditto the comment about WDC!!! Cheesy and annoying!

Thank u for bringing it up!
With that concert televised here in Germany my way with Prince started...

It was the first time I really saw and listened to him.

Good show, "snap ur fingers right like this...snap on...do u know what that is...orgasm" What a statement at a concert and the hole world was watching, bold.

Let's go crazy...

This is the video that got me HOOKED on Prince. I was already a fan from the 1999 and Purple Rain albums as well as Night Tracks features on Prince. However, watching this concert really got me into the man.

As for the WDC mirror images, they actually weren't that new. Led Zep's Song Remains the Same movie used those same effects in 1977.

The version of Purple Rain is amazing and Baby, I'm A Star is fun, but all in all I don't like this tour that much.
ONA blows it away...just hear the difference between The Beautiful Ones back then and now.

The whole show's excellent, from start to finish.

LoVe IT!!!

It was my first peek at Prince live. Great show..

I love the opening...

"Hello Syracuse and the world. My name is Prince and I've come 2 play with u..."

but yes, he's come a looonng way since. i'll take the ONA show over that without a doubt. (except i'd like to see Wendy & Lisa with him. but that's a whole other can of worms in a different forum, huh???)
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

Yea that drags out. You can't see anything anyway oin those parts, but in comparison, Rave 2000 was so edited with bad slow motion and smoky filters that it took the real live action out of alot of it.

I haven't seen this video yet, but it's on my wish list. Just out of curiosity, is that where they got the clip of "I Would Die 4 U" that's on the Hits DVD?, or is it a different concert?

I love it,altho it annoys me that the tour was very the same every show...same lil dialogues, same lil "come on ya'll...SAY!" ...those kinda things, but its a great show.
Yeah the sound & isnt the best but back then it was run of teh mill...tho i have seen a Pat Benatar gig from 83 i think,or 84 & its brilliant, performance & production wise.

Darling Nikki,HCUDCMA,Beautful Ones as always a fave.
Altho i do skip alot 2 get 2 the Nikki/CB/TBO section smile

It rox but i cant wait 2 get teh tape from Tokyo smile i love that whole era in Prince's career

I didn't really enjoy this video at all...sad

I thought the Rave live DVD was much better, and of course, the Sign of the Times video kills them both.

Catchy at the time but as time went on it became Stale&too much on the Liberace on Acid Vibe.too much Vegas. The Revolution IMHO didn't Sound So Hot Live.better in the Studio IMHO.also Prince seemed too Be Pressing Hard for that "1999"&"Purple Rain" Audience. He went for the Dollars all the way here IMHO.there were some Good Moments but overall Prince was headed toward Wayne Newton Ville IMHO.

Fantastic concert and my first meeting with Prince in concert that night in March '85 on German television.

The video though, I guess we all agree on that, has one flaw, mentioned several times, the 'mirror-trick'. I guess it should ressemble the end of the video of When Doves Cry.

Prince certainly has a weak spot in his perfectionism by wanting to edit live stuff so much that the live feeling almost dissapears.

For that reason I like the Lovesexy video (Dortmund '88)
better than for example SOTT. The fact that all off a sudden the video of 'U got the look' appears is still a mystery to me.
