Yes yes & yes ,i like it.
Esp. baby ,i am a star at the end. Way 2 funky and it makes me get goosebumps every time.
Prince in this number walks through the room and keeps the funk pumpin'.
Is it in this part of the show that there is this fragment that he plays his guitar and lets it come. Spraying something white over the crowd. Unforgettable

This video isn't one of my favorites. In fact, the 'Purple Rain' tour isn't one of my favorite Prince tours.I much prefer the 'Sign O The Times' and 'Lovesexy' tour videos.

It's ok at best. The photography, even for 1985, is just the pits. Most if not all of the spoken parts-which were way too long-- needed to edited out. And the When Doves Cry mirror image is just gaudy. barf

Yea that drags out. You can't see anything anyway oin those parts, but in comparison, Rave 2000 was so edited with bad slow motion and smoky filters that it took the real live action out of alot of it.
Yeah i wasn't a big fan of the Rave 2000 editing either. You could tell someone slipped or looked goofy, so they(or he) slowed it down to cover up the slip-ups, especially during 'Nothing Compares 2U'. What was that slow motion body surfing segment all about?

In retrospect, me no likey. So overblown and over the top...lots of embarassing moments to watch- like HCUDCMA The god speech..the see thru pants..the dialogue..Some saving graces though, like Purple Rain. He pulled out all the stops on this tour, the only one where he had to actually top himself..and it shows. I guess this had to be done this way from the expectations, the movie, the album..

Was the Lovesexy Live video ever released in the US? I have seen snippets of it on VH-1 but have never seen the video for sale anywhere. I would love to have that one as well as the Parade Live in Detroit. Any suggestions on where to buy these videos?

BTW The Purple Rain Live video is OK. The last time I watched it I remember thinking how dated it all looked and sounded. Prince was WAY over the top on that one. SOTT is so much better. The best thing about the Purple Rain-Live to me was Irresistable Bitch/Possessed. "Y'all jump out in the aisle and dance, this is coo."

Different concert, similar performance.

While I agree that SOTT video is amazing, let's not forget it's not a proper concert video, including as it does lip synching on Paisley Park's stage, the storyline segues etc.

With that concert televised here in Germany my way with Prince started...

It was the first time I really saw and listened to him.

Good show, "snap ur fingers right like this...snap on...do u know what that is...orgasm" What a statement at a concert and the hole world was watching, bold.

Yeah, it's all semantics, at the core Syracuse 85 is a complete live concert, Sign O The Times is a compilation of staged "live" performances with storyline segues.

Both could be called "Concert Movie" I guess, although it was SOTT which was released to cinema screens.

Well it's such a great song so I'd never skip it in it's rare live incarnation and the mirror screen gimmick is just replicating the "When Doves Cry" video. Although it clearly doesn't work when applied to live concert film.

TRON

Not one of my favorite performances I've seen of him. He just seemed hyperactive and showy throughout most of it. This concert doesn't showcase what I love about Prince. It makes him look like an attention-seeking pop star.

I remember not being able to sit still once I knew this vid was going to be released. And when I got it, IT WAS PERFECT!! In retrospect, it is definitely not flawless BUT the incredible Irresistible Bitch/Possessed and probably my favorite version of Purple Rain are enough for me. One thing this video does highlight is that Wendy and Lisa (back then at least!) had absolutely not found their voices (literally and figuratively!) just yet. I'm surprised that Mr. Perfectionist let them wail and caterwaul away like that!

I know! I hate that mirror image thing, I've never been too fond of the music video for that song for that reason too. I also don't like how dark it is when he does "purple rain", you can hardly see the band. But all in all I liked the video.

I have the cd of this show and that band can't hold a candle ,live,to the npg or the lovesexy band!!They were good in the studio and Prince Rogers Nelson wrte good songs during that period ,but that band sucked live.Maybe it was just the use of all the electronic sounds that go flat live.I speak, especially,of the drumming ,drum triggering, and the programming. Listen to Michael B ad the rest of the band on the '94 Paisley show and you will see what me be meanin'.

I also don't think this wa the best music to perform live. Also, that was such a different era in music and in prince's career.he was at the top of the pop game.He was TRL'n.He was the greatest act on the planet,in terms of the general public,at that time.I should say that I mean the "pop" general public.

I see so much ,watching that, why he was so anxious to get away from that image, sound, tour, movement, era. That was brought about by Prince's enormous ego, talant, ambition, and naivete'.Then he saw that which all think they seek:chairman of Pop Life ,Inc.

Prince is smart.I'm glad he moved away from that.He knew the general public is fickled and unforgiving. He realized most would not be there for the long haul.He knew he wanted to grow and change and do whtever he felt he needed to do.And I,as a fan, needed and need him to do what he feels he needs to do.

The general public has a very short attention span yet,thy don't really want anyone to change.tHEY WANT ALL ACTS,MUSICAL OR OTHERWISE,TO present themselves in a unique and assured way then they will give you the accolades and the adoration. However, that will live beyond 5 minutes only if you play the game the way they wish. You must play the game. You WILL be broken down for not being humble and openly thankful. You must stay the same.Stay the same until an agreed upon period of time has passed and you have seen rock bottom, but remain thankful then you will be allowed a small comeback with a more updated sound/act.

Prince didn't have much time for all this.He is an ego personified, yet he is a musician first. That pop life and that kissing up to that bs dream and cowtowing to the small or closeminded whims and thoughts of the pop music crowd was not something in Prince's agenda.

Go on,Prince. You blow my mind all the time.Every tme I go to a show, buy an abum, lien to a concert recording, jam to an outtake,etc...my belief in my hero grows stronger. If anyone tells me that they're fvorite muician is someone other than him or Jimi or JB or Mr.Clinton or someone of that ilk I just know a little something about thatperson's "musical tastes".You gotta love this!!

Like it.

Filmed bad in parts and the split mirror effect destroys When Doves Cry, saying that, it destroys the video 4 When Doves Cry 2.
The encore is cheesy as shit tho and he talks way too much during the piano numbers, but apart from that the concert it great and Prince is stunning.

Cant help but think how empty the stage looks tho with just Prince dancing by himself.

And I LOVE the bit when Prince twirls down the pole and stops with his ass 2 the audience. Sooo fucking funny.

The thing I remember most is Take Me With You when they adlib:

to be around you is so-o right, you're sheer perfection
thank you
you're welcome

That DOES happen, right? I'm not just imagining this, LOL... :O Regardless, I hear that adlib in my head every single time I listen to that song.
