I am not fantasizing; I am not doing make-believe-in my head I am stating what Prince said and did You want to talk Manuela . . . he married her and had her straighten her hair and she looked like . . . . I will not say but we all know who.
The only fantasizing happening is from people still saying The Beautiful Ones was for anyone but Vanity and saying Prince and Vanity never existed and he banned her from his life forever. That is just not true.

Wait...
Child, if you can't comprehend yet that Vanity INDEED left Prince and Purple Rain I'm thinking you might need a bit of education on common sense.
This is not the start of an argument with you. I was just educating you, is all. Let's just leave Vanity off the thread that belongs to good ol M2, eh?
Back on topic... [Edited 5/4/17 1:12am] [Edited 5/4/17 1:14am] Thanks for the references Tigerlilyluv. You saved me some time I didn't have, lol. I had no idea this was going on in this thread! I was actually going to debate this book "The Rise Of Prince" in that book club because I knew there are those that were chomping at the bit to gloat over some of the negative claims about Vanity, but I lost interest after I found out that this author got much of his information from fans on Prince.org, (one in particular, can't even stand to hear Vanity's name mentioned) He even acknowledged their contributions at the end of the book, like they were a part of the Prince camp in the 80's.. I was like wow, seriously? This book isn't even worth my time to debate... [Edited 5/4/17 15:53pm]

I know right. I go to work and come home to all of this. Thanks to Tigerlilyluv, Luvgirl, Reciprocity, laurarichardson, and others who have shown/ spelled out the evidence and sources I was talking about a few pages back. In more than one interview, Vanity said that she wanted only him, but he wanted more (women). People came calling for her- from around the world, as Jill said in her podcast. I could be wrong, but it sounds like she began considering other options and when The Last Temptation of Christ role fell through, she went with Motown. In the 1988 Playboy interview, Vanity said that she asked Prince for more money than he could afford to pay her on purpose as an excuse to leave him. She walked away from him.

that is why people are in denial; Prince duped us; everyone thought he hated her and now we know he did not and after all the years that past he mourned her as if they dated recently. Pisses people off and yes they changed but not apart; their lives were on the same path the same paths; they mirrored each other all their lives and died same year weeks apart. They were mirrors. That's a bit of a stretch. Okay a big stretch. Like i said Prince was single for many of the years since he was with Vanity/Denise and so was she. They could have been together if thats what they wanted. Obviously thats not what either wanted. And i never said they didnt have contact or communicate. I dont know where some of the people in this thread come to the conclusions they do. Talk about reading comprehension. The fact that they did still communicate is even more proof they wwrent soulmates or mirrors or destined for only each other. Why didnt they just get together then? They were ancient history. Any romance was long over between them. And M2 doesnt look anything like Vanity/Denise btw. Besides all Vanity/Denise cared about was her ministry after she got saved. Its all she ever talked about. All that preaching gets boring after awhile. I tried to read her book but gave up. Its a mess. A writer she was not. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

You can care about someone and not be able to live with them or be in a relationship. Appears that Vanity did not put up with his running around and I doubt P was going to ever give up his booty chasing. Seems simple enought and M2 does favor Vanity.

Thank you for bringing the facts. Oh Vanity slept with Albert and later Prince brought Albert back to manage his affairs so I assume he was not to upset about it. eek She didn't sleep with Albert Magnoli. The simple fact that Prince still used him on the film is proof positive that she didn't sleep with him. On all accounts Prince was an extremely jealous man. Remember TOB saying Vanity told him that Prince was an extremely jealous man, especially where she was concerned. Listen to her tell the story about Prince having a guy bodily removed from the dance floor and thrown out, who was dancing with her. (I actually think it was Micki Free because he told a similar story about being thrown out after he was trying to talk to one of Prince's girls ) Start at 10.20 Hahn claimed that Prince was enraged when he found out, and the transgression was intolerable to him, so why in the world would he still work with a man that went behind his back and slept with one of his girls? And almost ruined his movie? How could he trust someone that did that to him? Prince? No way! And why in the world would Prince still mess around with her in 86 if she did that to him? Remember TOB saying that they were still messing with each other a bit even after she left. ( you know, like ex's do when it's hard for them to break it off with each other) but when a guy has to leave a girl because she cheated, it's a big shot to the ego, and we all know Prince had a HUGE ego back then. Check out this post by OFFS saying he placed them together at a club Prince held a party at in 86. Post 73. http://prince.org/msg/5/438579?&pg=3 There is also a picture of him and one of Vanity at that same club that night with Vanity wearing one of his outfits. You know the stories about Prince. Doesn't sound like him at all. This is the only book out of many with this information due to one person telling that to Hahn. In his first book before he revised it, he clearly tells you "One knowledgeable source says she was dismissed" One? And he choose to stick to this story? Dude Bye.. If anything this was just a rumor back then... [Edited 5/5/17 6:03am]

The story was in DMSR so we can only go buy what was written. Yes, Prince was the jealous type but check this out.
1) Mi Ling Stone- The Lady in dated in Minneapolis who thinks LRC is about her. She admitted she liked dating athletes and she dated other men when Prince was out of town and he knew about but he kept seeing her.
2) The man that was thrown out of the party was Mickey Free but Prince still let Mickey hang around. Mickey was at the Charlie Murphy basketball game.
3) Stories that Andre and Prince competed for the same girls going back to high school but he wanted Dre in his band
4) A few people have said that Prince would treat the nice girls like crap but shower attention on the bad girls (Vanity).
Sorry but controlling and jealous men like Prince are usually more pissed at the women then the men they run around with. These guys have old fashion and sexist attitudes that women cannot run around like men do. I can see him being pissed at Vanity and not Albert. In addition, Eric Leeds said when came on the 1999 tour Vanity and Prince were just about done as a couple.
So, if it is true she slept with Albert they might not have been seeing each other at that point and time. So maybe he was beyond caring or maybe it was too late to get rid of Al.

She did not hire a ghost writer, maybe that's why you felt the book was a mess. It's a choice that all authors make and is influenced by many factors.
Of course it's always possible that she may have preferred that her words not be filtered through a ghost writer or maybe she didn't have the funds to hire one because she self-published. If she had written a book that focused on the intimate details of her relationship with Prince, publishers would have been coming out of the woodwork and she would have had an advance, the ablility to select a ghost writer (if she so chose), an editor, media interviews and a book tour.
Trust me, in most cases, you're out there all alone when you self-publish, however, some authors make the decision to do so when they want full creative control. It's a personal choice.

Whether or not he fired Vanity or she walked it does not change the fact the 2 remained friends, lived parallel lives and died within weeks of one another.
Prince gave the most tenderhearted concerts in her memory in Melbourne and attende her funeral.
We may not know everything but we know he wrote The Beautiful Ones for her, he loved her with an uncontested passion (per the Melbourne Concert) and wanted her to be in Purple Rain because it was about him and her.
I think for a woman who was not a legal partner or wife that is a lot and gives enough to say he really cared for this woman deeply and she touched him somewhere deep, deep inside.

I checked out DMSR and there was nothing said about Vanity sleeping with Albert Magnoli in the book. Alex Hahn's book is the only book with that account. What was said about her departure in DMSR was in tune with every other book's account out there- That she left because she couldn't bare to put up with Prince's womanizing ways any longer, and the fact that she was attracting other offers and wanted more money to do Purple Rain... It's the Same thing Vanity has said, it's the same thing Prince has said, Associates, and everyone else of significance to that movie. In contrast to Alex Hahn's book's "One knowledgeable source." I believe DMSR's account. Why out of so many books and resources is Alex Hahn's book the only one that mentions this? Sorry, I simply do not believe that Vanity slept with Albert Magnoli. I still believe Prince had too much of an ego to forgive such transgressions. No one can tell me he would continue to work with that man after he did that to him. I don't care what he used to do with anyone else. This was different. If true, what Albert Magnoli did would have been brutal for another man to do to his business partner. It's a trust thing.. This book is not gospel to me. Prince said so many wonderful things about Vanity the night of his tribute to her. Telling the world that they used to love each other deeply and much more significant intimations than we'd ever heard him say, but the author chooses only to tell the reader that Prince said he threw Vanity in the pool... It's obvious he's more about sensationalizing than being accurate... This is all he said about Prince's tribute to Vanity... "Prince began by telling his Melbourne audience that “Someone dear to us has passed away, I’m gonna dedicate this song to her.” He delivered an anguished version of “The Beautiful Ones” and then proceeded, more lightly, to tell a story about ordering his bodyguard Chick Huntsberry to throw Matthews into a pool after a fight in which she taunted him for being too small to do it himself..." I think all of us by now know that Prince said much more meaningful things than this in that tribute, but yet somehow the author decided to bypass the meaningful... [Edited 5/6/17 7:43am]

It's plain to see that Prince married 2 women that resemble Vanity. The fact they kept in touch,he opened up about her when he found out she passed away, paid her medical bills etc..Shows how many much he loved her. She left him.. IMHO it deeply affected him. Until the end of time

This video she speaks well about Prince and she talks in present tense . She was a woman and not a girl. She owns her stuff too not trying to blame anyone but herself, she never ever disses him and does not throw him under the bus. When the interviewer asks if he was a Svengali she says yes that's him and not in a disparaging way just matter of fact that is who he is. I like she owns what went down and does not deflect or put blame or try to get pity or he owes me for Purple Rain; even her book was called Blame It On Vanity- This woman did not feel entitled just because she was part of his genius at a certain time. Fierce, Courageous and Strong - and she was physically beautiful. R.I.P. Densie Vanity Matthews - The true Beautiful One

Vanity died a long, long time ago. Her earthly body left much later. Prince loved Vanity. Did he even know Denise? He didnt love her like he did Vanity certainly. Thats why its silly to hold onto the whole prince and vanity fantasy. That waz over a long time ago when denise laid vanity to rest at the same time laying to rest any dreams of a prince and vanity romance. She made it quite clear with the name change and her ministry that vanity didnt exist anymore. Prince accepted that and moved on. Lets all do the same. [Edited 5/6/17 7:13am] It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

[Edited 5/6/17 7:43am] Alex got that rumor from someone and it does not really matter since Prince ran around on her just like he did all of the women. He was seeing Jill Jones and Susan Moonsie and had them all on the same bus together. They both cheated on each other fought and made up repeatly.

Everybody has that love of your life and sometimes you cannot live with that person but it does not mean you stop caring.

If you listened to her interviews you would know she accepted Vanity as part of who she was; she accepted her past as part of making her who she became- I am not going to not talk about Vanity/Denise. Prince brought her back to the fore in the Piano & Mic concerts by being so emotional and speaking of her , to God and to her during some of those concerts and that was the last months of his life so clealry he had not "moved on". She was a dear friend for him . If we can talk about women he really did move on from who were actually no longer a part of his life, I think we can talk about the woman who was a valued friend who mourned openly the last weeks of his life.

Such Vanity love warrants her own thread so why hijack a Mani thread?

The same women who Dr. Funkenberry said stopped speaking to and he had to relay the message to Prince about the school. Okay I want to sell you the Brooklyn bridge.
