WRONG. She was NOT fired. She left him and that's been well documented in interviews from back to that time and even in recent ones. I don't know where you get your info, but you better do your research because you seem to not know much of anything in regards to Vanity or maybe you should take a seat.

WRONG, maybe you have the wrong info. This has been documented in Alex Hahn's book, The Rise of Prince, do you want the page number? LOL

[Edited 5/3/17 12:51pm]

lol This is so predictable coming from you who believes everything Mayte said in her book as gospel. Going back to.. DO YOUR RESEARCH because there are MULTIPLE sources out there that say Vanity left Prince hanging with weeks just before Purple Rain was set to go into production. She was not fired. And no, I don't need the page number to Hahn's book because like the first one, he downplayed/ misrepresented Vanity's presence in Prince's life.

.

Yes, he was sad and mourned when she died, like most of us do when our friends pass, but that doesn't mean they were soulmates.

--That is not what Jill Jones said but I guess you knew him for 40 year so you know more than her? Also Vanity's brother in law said they wrote to each other up until 2013 and he has all of the correspondence. He also thinks Prince paid off her medical bills which at one time totaled $100,000.00. Vanity ran around but so did Prince lots of fighting as he even admitted so.

Oh, my. Will we be seeing a book of correspondence between the two in the future? eek

There are 2 sides to every story and now finally Prince's side is being told. Prince fired Vanity, and let Vanity save face by saying she walked away because they wouldn't pay her enough. And like I said before, she was a drunk, druggie, and very sexually active with males AND females, Prince didn't want no part in that, at that time.

Yes I know, but at the time this went down with Vanity, he didn't want no part of her. We all know he had a change of heart in his later years and was reaching out to people, and we also know that he was paying her medical bills. You aren't telling me anything new. We know Prince ran around on everybody.

I don't know WTF you're talking about- "Prince's side being told". Unless it was told by Prince himself or while he was alive to refute it, I'm NOT buying it. Like Mayte's "Love Story", it was only HER side but doesn't mean it was TRUTH because as you just said yourself, there are two sides. Did Prince tell Alex Hahn himself that? NO. So... Plus, there are plenty of articles (PLURAL) back from the 80's into recent ones, including Prince HIMSELF in 2015, in Ebony magazine saying that TBOs was partly inspired Vanity because SHE LEFT. In fact, a link to the article in currently on a active thread right now. Again, go research.

Since I have pointed things to you, more than once and you still disregard, it's you that might not want to. I already read articles, interviews, and even coming from Prince HIMSELF- things he's said concerts, songs, and articles. All of this better than a book with the blatant bias and misrepresentation of Vanity's significance in Prince's life.

Penny Purple, I have Hahn’s book and have not found an interview with Prince, so how can his book communicate Prince’s thoughts, opinions, or most importantly, feelings? Until one can present an interview with the man himself, it’s all conjecture.

Also, why such venom for Denise Matthews? It is my understanding that she asked for her Lord’s forgiveness for any sins that she committed so, for me, that settles it.

I get it, you’re on Team Mayte and that is your choice, however, the need to label Denise using words that did not apply to the woman she was at the time of her death is unjustified, unnecessary and just plain mean. Imagine how her brother-in-law (who has visited and shared with us on the org) would feel if he saw his sister described in those terms.

Yes, Denise turned herself around, there is nothing wrong with that. But does that mean that we change history of what really happened? I'm sorry her BIL is on the forum, but these are the things that happened in her life, no matter how ugly they are. She was beautiful and had a really hard life, but some of those choices, were her own choosing everyone seems to forget she was mixed up in drugs, sex (with both sexes), alcohol, etc. and in all honesty she ruined her own health which caused her early death. No matter how you try to gloss it over or make it pretty, it's not such a fairy tale.

Hahn is a person who plays down the mere existence of Vanity anyway. I find it suspect and always have. I have learned to let people have their own opinions. Prince cleared a lot up in the last year of his life. It was not about his first wife either.

People can like her but there is no need to discount others who were in his life including his 2nd wife and the first Prince Girl to many -Vanity.

Peeps need to check out interviews from both Prince and Vanity at the time and her Playboy interview. She was not like many of these people since he died changing facts around. She spoke while he was living and he never disputed her. She did not have to wait for him to die to tell her "truth". She was interviewed and told it many times WHILE he was ALIVE cause I guess she was being upfront and truthful;and others in the camp and even her own diary backed it up. Check out all the publications about that time from people a Warner Brothers who worked on the movie.

Nothing says Prince fired her.

As for the first bolded, we disagree, therefore I need to get my head out of the box and educate myself...you have no idea what I know nor how educated I am on this or any other situation.

As for Denise's past transgressions, she admitted to them and accepted the consequences of her actions. She never denied that her kidney issues were related to past drug use. However, she changed her story by changing her life. If you need to keep dragging her in the dirt for her history then so be it. That is your choice.

Now as to the bolded comment "try to gloss it over and make it pretty, it's not such a fairy tale"... no glossing at all, just a statement that I'm sure Denise took great comfort in...it's the one about being forgiven of our confessed wickedness and the reassurance that those sins will be remembered no more. For me, that is not a fairy tale.

Agreed, Vashtix. If Prince disagreed with what people said, he spoke up to discredit them. He never did this with Vanity/Denise and I think his silence speaks volumes.

I'm sorry PennyPurple, what Hahn writes does not make it gospel for me unless the information came from a face-to-face interview with Prince. As I said earlier, if it's about Prince's feelings/actions, but not directly from Prince, it's conjecture.

We will need to agree to disagree on this point, as it appears obvious that nothing will change either of our minds.

Just like I have Mayte's book, I have Hahn's as well. Hence my opinion of his bias. Like I said, he discounts Vanity's relationship with Prince and is WRONG that the TBOs is about Susannah. I haven't seen his sources on his claim of Vanity being fired. What page is that on?

I would join your book club thread but since you view disagreement and/or challenge as pot stirring, I will challenge on other threads when pertinent topics come up.

Fact is Vanity walked away from the movie project.

Fact is for some reason you want it to be as if Prince did not want her to do the project.

This is from an interview from Prince :

Prince: You ever heard of checking your list to see who’s naughty and who’s nice? I just let people talk. I was talking to somebody about “The Beautiful Ones.” They were speculating as to who I was singing about. But they were completely wrong.
If they look at it, it’s very obvious. “Do you want him or do you want me,” that was written for that scene in Purple Rain specifically. Where Morris [Day] would be sitting with [Apollonia], and there’d be this back and forth. And also, “The beautiful ones you always seem to lose,” Vanity had just quit the movie. To then speculate, “Well, he wrote that song about me”? Afterwards you go, “Who are you? Why do you think that you’re part of the script that way? And why would you go around saying stuff like that?”
So we just let people talk and say whatever they want to say. Nine times out of 10, trust me, what’s out there now, I wouldn’t give nary one of these folks the time of day. That’s why I don’t say anything back, because there’s so much that’s wrong.

If I do comprehend the written word, he said the" beautiful ones you always seem to lose . . ." that is not a man doing the firing and kicking nobody to the curb.

BTW Page 216, 1st, 2nd & 3rd paragraph in Hahns book. Which will be discussed in depth on the book club thread.

.

Prince fired Vanity from PR, He made no effort to correct the record when she claimed that she had left over money issues; the point was that she was gone.

.

He had, had it with her and wanted her gone and we know Prince always gets what he wants.

The page number is in my quote, that you quoted above......

Please explain why he made a matching outfit for her in 1986 and she attended his birthday party wearing it but he wanted her gone. He wanted her gone.

Fact is, it is NOT a fact that she walked away from that movie on her own. It's being disputed.

Fact is, you are putting words in my mouth by saying that I want it to be that Prince did not want her to do the project. Where did I say that? Go back and read what was said, from the book. LMAO. He fired her, he let her keep face when she said she left because of money, because he didn't care, he wanted her gone. And the quote above about what Prince said, fits perfectly about how he just let people talk and say whatever, which is just exactly what he did with Vanity.

You are going to totally ignore that he said Vanity had just quit the movie? He said the beautiful ones you always seem to lose and he backs up that statement in the concert when he dedicated The Beautiful Ones to Vanity. Now Prince lied? I do not think he was worried about his image end of 2015 and 2016.

You conveniently ignored what he said about Vanity leaving the project.

Hahn lied in the book about Susannah and he along with Susan Rodgers and others clung to the myth that The Beautiful Ones was about Susannah. Him putting that blatant lie in his book afterf Prince corrected the lie twice- once in an interview and during his last concert tour totally disqualifies him for me.

I am at this point sick of all the lies and twisting of history people continue to do. Prince himself sel the record straight and no one is believing him. Alex Hahn is not the genius who wrote the song so between him and Prince I am believing Prince.

Mr Hahn many blessings but still pushing the Susannah thing for the song and now Vanity was fired. OK.

Lies.

I know it doesn't make it gospel, just because everyone WANTS to think that Vanity left that movie on her own, doesn't mean it's true either. Of all people she slept with one of which was Albert Magnoli. eek

He also said The Beautiful Ones was written for Susannah and it was not; It was for Vanity because she just left -

He discredits herself. He was a fan of Prince and Susnnah and that crew and his bias shows.

Vanity admitted to sleeping around back then with various men; Prince swung around too- so who you gonna vilify? They both owned it.

Sorry , Hahn lost me with his first book because of obvious bias and this time round the same thing.

Alex Hahn had that in his book and he was wrong when he first did it and never corrected it. His bias is showing.
