Oh, my. Will we be seeing a book of correspondence between the two in the future? eek

I really wish someone who has info about Vanity/Denise with no agenda would share- a housekeeper, church member, grocery store clerk ANYONE

with pics. I would love to see some correspondence but I guess TOB was treated so poorly here that he was ran off.

Ashame too because I enjoyed his presence here.

Yes! It was gracious of TOB to share Denise's writings and some of her artistry along with interesting tidbits like that. Life is busy, maybe he'll be back.

I, too, would love it if someone, even an ordinary, everyday person who knew Vanity/ Denise would share pics or story.

That showed the genius of Prince . I am sure TOB has other interesting things maybe he will share again but yeah that was very interesting.

Yes, he was sad and mourned when she died, like most of us do when our friends pass, but that doesn't mean they were soulmates.

Yes I know, but at the time this went down with Vanity, he didn't want no part of her. We all know he had a change of heart in his later years and was reaching out to people, and we also know that he was paying her medical bills. You aren't telling me anything new. We know Prince ran around on everybody.

To be fair we really dont know anything for sure.
I thought this was a thread about M2? All the threads and discussions about Prince and his women are just getting so old, re-hashing the same stuff. Do people really care anymore?
And seriously Prince was how many years and how many relationships removed from Vanity/Denise? If they were such soulmates and deep down wanted to be together again they had plenty of opportunities to rekindle. They were not the same people anymore. I cant imagine Vanity/Denise had time to daydream about Prince with her ministry and dialysis keeping her busy. She wasn't about that Prince life anyway. She seemed to be all-in with God. Before that she had moved on to other men. I never got the sense that she was all that crazy in love with P anyway. Crazy yeah, but not crazy in love. shrug

lol This is so predictable coming from you who believes everything Mayte said in her book as gospel. Going back to.. DO YOUR RESEARCH because there are MULTIPLE sources out there that say Vanity left Prince hanging with weeks just before Purple Rain was set to go into production. She was not fired. And no, I don't need the page number to Hahn's book because like the first one, he downplayed/ misrepresented Vanity's presence in Prince's life.

There are 2 sides to every story and now finally Prince's side is being told. Prince fired Vanity, and let Vanity save face by saying she walked away because they wouldn't pay her enough. And like I said before, she was a drunk, druggie, and very sexually active with males AND females, Prince didn't want no part in that, at that time.

Lisa Coleman:
Vanity was supposed to be the lead, but she left right before the film. It almost tanked the film. I don’t know what happened. Maybe it was a personal issue between her and Prince. They were dating.

"Vanity left the show because she got an offer"...

Prince' response to the Ebony Magazine interviewer

EBONY: Do you ever see yourself writing a memoir?

Prince: You ever heard of checking your list to see who’s naughty and who’s nice? I just let people talk. I was talking to somebody about “The Beautiful Ones.” They were speculating as to who I was singing about. But they were completely wrong.
If they look at it, it’s very obvious. “Do you want him or do you want me,” that was written for that scene in Purple Rain specifically. Where Morris [Day] would be sitting with [Apollonia], and there’d be this back and forth. And also, “The beautiful ones you always seem to lose,” Vanity had just quit the movie. To then speculate, “Well, he wrote that song about me”? Afterwards you go, “Who are you? Why do you think that you’re part of the script that way? And why would you go around saying stuff like that?”

You can find info on that entire interview here: https://www.facebook.com/...788385046/

Jill Jones podcast interview 2016 she stated that she knew Vanity was going to leave. Something about Vanity contacting people that Jill Jones knew or was related to. She also stated they (her and the rest of the girls) wanted to go further in their career. Vanity got a good offer, a much better offer, to do another project... she left, period. End of story.

Not that it matters but also in one of Vanity's interviews she actually stated that she purposely asked for a large amount from him to do Purple Rain because she was trying to leave. He was holding her back.

So, we got Prince saying Vanity quit, the directory saying Vanity quit, Jill saying she knew Vanity was going to leave, Vanity herself saying she quit, and Prince's band member Lisa saying Vanity quit.

All of these people were closer to Prince than that Hahn person whose book you wasted money on. He had to even ask fans for input! None of these people that said she quit are book authors out there trying to get money with gossip. You do the math.

Wait...

Child, if you can't comprehend yet that Vanity INDEED left Prince and Purple Rain I'm thinking you might need a bit of education on common sense.

Hopefully my statement is the last mentioned on this thread in regards to Vanity. I wasn't going to post but I saw it was significantly imperitive I offer my input.

This is not the start of an argument with you. I was just educating you, is all. Let's just leave Vanity off the thread that belongs to good ol M2, eh?

Back on topic...

--The Jill Jones podcast that Michael Dean did had more listeners then he ever had and she discussed Vanity and Prince so people do find the women interesting. According to Vanity's brother in law they stayed in touch for years. It appears he stayed in touch with many of his old lady friends and just because Vanity was ill does not mean she could not send an e-mail or take a phone call.

EBONY: I’ve read “The Beautiful Ones” was based on Susannah Melvoin.
Prince: Any ballad like that, you know it’s not going to be about anything, uh, what’s the word? Carnal. It’s not gonna even be based in flesh. Regardless of what I’m singing about, it’s all spiritual. This is a channel. I’m trying to do “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” It’s not about somebody human that I’m looking at right now. It wouldn’t have worked if it was. This was literally for that character. And that’s why it worked. Everybody thinks the song is about them. “This song’s about me and the other one’s about Bob Seger.” [laughter]

"this was literally for that character"

"Not about somebody human"

I like Vanity but if we're quoting Prince can we at least be accurate?

The point is the song was not about Susannah Melvoin. In additon, Prince dedicated the song to Vanity after she died. He wrote the song so he might have had more insight then any of us will ever had.

Wanted to post the Love 4 One Another Charity information I found. I could not get the document to paste so I retyped it. The Bridge fund was for the Minneapolis Bridge Collaspe that took place on August 2 2007 so we can put a date on this for 2007 or 2008.

Notice that he gave money to M2 charity and to a company called Smitty Boykins which was and still is owned by Eric Benet. Why would Prince's charity loan or give money to the man his wife married after there divorce. M2 was an operator.

No they are not laughing at me because I do not have a reading comprehension problem.

I do not read what the writer of the song stated and decide it means something else because I do not like what was stated which is now becoming par for the course on this board.

Keep living with speculative facts.

He said both things in the same article. But first and foremost he explained what certain lyrics meant. "Do you want him or do you want me" meant for the scene where Morris was speaking to Applonoia. "The Beautiful Ones You always seem to lose.".... meant for Vanity's departure...

When asked directly if it was inspired by Susannah Melvoin, he tried to explain that it wasn't about her, "it wasn't for anything carnal." You can't disregard his first comment, explaining the lyrics that Vanity inspired. it's still there... Not rocket science.... falloff

There are people on this board who are always dissing Vanity. Even in death they can not give that women any props at all. Susan was not in the fucking movie. The part was written for Vanity.

The point is the song was not about Susannah Melvoin. In additon, Prince dedicated the song to Vanity after she died. He wrote the song so he might have had more insight then any of us will ever had.

Just because Prince ... or anybody else for that matter dedicates a song for somebody that died, doesn't mean that song is about them.

Why are you intent to deny the song was for Vanity? He did date the woman. He said he loved her with a passion uncontested just last year. Why is it offensiv to you so much so that you insist Prince himself was lying?

He said it via the Ebony article he did not want published. Maybe that is why he did not want it published Maybe it gave way too much away.

Prince clearly felt strong feelings for Vanity. I am sick of people walking on eggshells as if they cannot come out and just say it.

She passed and he openly mourned. The article from the promoter said he was shattered and NY Times article said people worried due to his depression after Vanity died.

People need to accept Prince loved a non perfect woman who USED to sleep around and do drugs and he still cared strongly for to the very end.

Why is it that so hard to accept. The Beautiful Ones was for Vanity. He said it. Prince said it. It is fact. When Vanity died he said the same.

Why is that so hard to accept? It is the way it is and he mourned her. He was depressed over her. Alex Hahn, Susan Rodgers and the rest the crew who keep trying to act like Vanity was nothing but some irritating, drugged up, whore who Prince disdained need to have several seats. They have always had an agenda. It has been to lift up Susannah as the one that got a way. That is a lie. Alex Hahn lied. He said the Beautiful Ones was about Susannah that was a lie. That makes me know Alex Hahn has an agenda an twisted the truth to suit his agenda.

Maybe Vanity pissed in his cereal or coffee but as it stands Prince mourned her and wrote songs for her and that is fact.

AND-he attended her funeral.

Vanity was dear and special to him.

The denial , the hate is strong toward Vanity and I do not understand why.

Crazy yeah, but not crazy in love. shrug [Edited 5/3/17 22:09pm]

Prince could come back from the dead and say he spoke to her in 2015 and people would say it is not true.

The denial is real.

Yes I know, but at the time this went down with Vanity, he didn't want no part of her. We all know he had a change of heart in his later years and was reaching out to people, and we also know that he was paying her medical bills. You aren't telling me anything new. We know Prince ran around on everybody.

that is why people are in denial; Prince duped us; everyone thought he hated her and now we know he did not and after all the years that past he mourned her as if they dated recently. Pisses people off and yes they changed but not apart; their lives were on the same path the same paths; they mirrored each other all their lives and died same year weeks apart. They were mirrors.

“This song’s about me and the other one’s about Bob Seger.” [laughter] "this was literally for that character" "Not about somebody human" I like Vanity but if we're quoting Prince can we at least be accurate?

He said both things in the same article. But first and foremost he explained what certain lyrics meant. "Do you want him or do you want me" meant for the scene where Morris was speaking to Applonoia. "The Beautiful Ones You always seem to lose.".... meant for Vanity's departure... When asked directly if it was inspired by Susannah Melvoin, he tried to explained that it wasn't about her, "it wasn't for anything carnal." Not rocket science... You can't disregard his first comment, explaining the lyrics that Vanity inspired. it's still there... [Edited 5/4/17 12:15pm]

bow

Thank you so much - the disgust over Prince and Vanity is strange. He clearly cared for this woman 30 years later and he was still crying over her, yet books, and celebrations never mention her.

Laura, I cannot remember a time in my life when I've seen such venom hurled at the mere mention of a dead woman's name...it is sad.

yourself for one of them, you'll be in a better mood next morning mushy
