There were a couple (not a lot, but 1 or 2) stories in the press back in the day about some outrageously demanding antics of hers to service people in public environments while on tour (can't remember which-possibly Right On! or Black Beat since I read those religiously). I remember being floored by reading that as a young teen because (as kids often do) I had this totally idealized picture of her being glamourous, gorgeous, elegant perfection that was suddenly shattered . Still, it's great to see that she's older, wiser, and big enough to acknowledge and apologize for past mistakes even if they were made during the folly of youth. That's grace.

Sheila E just like Prince have changed in their old age. They have become more humble & spiritual. They r so much more alike now. No wonder they remained working with eachother all these years b 4 the fall out. They both still look in their 30's also..Plus keep in good shape... Both have become more accessible 2 the public...

I am lucky to have seen 4 such gigs over the last year or so, including her last birthday show. While the E-Family shows (I've seen a few) are great too, Sheila playing with her own band ....words can't even explain!!!

The crazy part is she usually doesn't plan it...they announce it lke a week ahead of time, they rehearse like once if at all, and they still kill it!

I WISH She would do another "Sheila E" pop/funk album and TOUR with her band. She does Prince songs better than Prince does (Her LIVE version of Love Bizarre is the DEFINITIVE version in my book!)

I used to watch Next Gream American Band just to see her . Somewhere they said she was a judge on Australian Idol.... is that true?

But the whole Sheila being uncomfortable, w/him in another woman comment just really threw me off. Just watched the show.

My take on the episode was that she did and continues to talk alot about her relationship with Prince

and her father seems like an absolute sweetheart.

Ok, back to the relationship part.

She makes it a point to put out there how "in love" they continue to be with one another and yet the man's been married and divorced twice and neither were Sheila. Yeah, I heard the reason(s) that she gave why they were never married. But, it was only her who "outed" details of a relationship, never him.

The funny thing about that, to me, is for Prince to be such a private person when it comes to the nature of his relationships, we "knew" about Mayte, Mani, Kim, Susannah, Vanity, Susan, Nona, Anna, Misty, Bria, and Carmen...so why not Sheila. Could it have been a respect thing? To say that is to say that he didn't have any degree of respect for any of the above mentioned women. So, I don't think that was the case. As far as most are concern, her only role in his life was that of a protege and recurring bandmate.

So, I think the reason(s) why they (Sheila and Prince) are as they appear to be could be one, any or all the following:

1. Her extraordinary musical ability.

2. Her apparent willingness to play the background while his other women/relationships get to be in the foreground.

3. Her continued support, whenever requested.

4. Or maybe, it's as simple as, she has found contentment in being a friend. Which I think is extremely wise when dealing with someone like him.

Regardless, Sheila is one, if not, the best at what she does and I wish her continued success in all of her endeavors.

I just recently started posting in this forum when the 07ven cd came out and a couple of years back when Verbal Penetration came out. You can't even dig up a thread where i'm constantly bashing Prince.
