Andre & The Revolution

This may have been asked before, so forgive me if it has, but I cant help but think that Andre Cymone would be a natural choice for lead singer in the Revolution should they decide to tour.

After all, he looks like Prince, sounds like Prince and is (nearly) as good a musician as Prince.

Dont get me wrong, I'd still rather have Prince but it's unrealistic to think he would start playing with them again. Andre, to me, is the next best thing...

It would be cool to add Andre to the mix, but the other members of the Revolution can handle the vocals for some of the songs on their own. Wendy kicked ass on "Controversy" and "Do It All Night." GSharp did a great job handling the lead vocal on "Uptown", and I'm sure he could fill in on other songs too.

However, I think there are some songs that really shouldn't be performed by anyone but Prince, like "When Doves Cry," "The Beautiful Ones," and "Condition of the Heart." Those songs are too personal and/or unique to Prince for someone else to capture the magic. Just my opinion, of course.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Maybe in the 80s... lol

No disrespect, I have tons of respect for Andre as a producer but I disagree that he looks and sounds like Prince these days. But yeah, in the early 80s he did resemble him a bit, but then again you also had a bunch of other folks resembling Prince back in those days.

what would be cool is to have a Family Jam like Sheila's Benefit

but scaled down, have the Revolution + Dez Jill Jones Sheila E Eric & Eddie M Morris Day Susannah and a few others and do a good combination of songs Prince & Protege

Condition of the Heart, Prince still has only done in a medley(correct?)

I think a the Revolution can handle that, put Susannah or Jill on the leadvocals, they have good range

Susannah Jill Lisa Wendy Dez on background vocals

Bobby on drums Sheila on percussions/

Lisa working the strings but add some of live string instruments

Dual guitar work with Wendy & Dez, Matt on Keys

someon with finger cymbals

I think it could be beautiful

I thought he played the whole song when I saw him on the Lovesexy tour, but it's been a long time and I could be wrong. I'm sure the vocals could be handled by someone else, but given that Prince wrote the song about Susannah, it would be odd to have her singing it without him being there.

He DID play Condition of the Heart ( full version ) at Paisley Park during the 2002 celebration. It was ok but sounded a bit odd.

In fairness, I have no idea what he looks like these days, I was just basing it off when they were both younger.

I just think that since they sound(ed) similar it would seem like an ideal replacement if The Revolution were to tour again.

I saw Andre at the fdeluxe show in LA- he looked good. I'm sure he still has the chops. they could rotate the vocals to whoever handles it best AND have guest vocalsts. How many people would kill to sing those songs.

Not only would it be a cool idea, but both Bobby and Doc Fink played a show with Andre in MPLS recently.

Andre would NEVER agree 2 that. eye mean it is the reason he left the band in the first place 2 b on his own. Not return 2 front a band of hits by his childhood friend....

Charming idea but: Andre has spent the past 3 decades trying to avoid living in Prince's shadow (and later not be known as Mr. Jody Watley), why in the world would he want to be the substitute leader of Prince's band? Performing a lot of songs that were hits long after he left the fold?

Sports fans have fantasy football, the Org has fantasy band line-ups, lol Again charming idea, I highly doubt Andre would do it.

I agree 100%.

But, I wouldn't want them just teaming up for a one off tour. I think he should join full time and start recording new songs or a new album. Then in live shows he could perform some of his solo songs with the band.

I know, years ago, he didn't want to keep being compared to Prince but he might feel different now, having not had a hit (or even a song) in years.

As long as Jody Watley's song "I'm Looking For A New Love" keeps turning up on "Greatest Hits of The 80s" type CDs, Mr. Cymone won't be hurting for cash. lol

Since there won't be a Revolution tour, it's a moot point.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No the band pre 1987 was not a revolving band like the NPG

No offense to Wendy, but that was not hard to do. Patti & Treys version/tribute was horrendous and offensive (shoot, I can't carry a tune, but I could have done better, just 4 the love of P and PR). But still the Revolution was overrated!!

I know, Wendy said she didn't want to do the songs like Prince

I don't think it was overrated, it was a benefit for their friend, Prince was behind them

and they got more than what they wanted for Bobby Z's fund/benefit

But yeah Patti & Trey made me ashamed
