Is Jerome Benton Gay? My wife and I were watching UTCM the other night and she is under the impression that Christopher and Tricky were gay lovers who whored themselves out to women to make money. When Prince fell in love with Mary, all hell breaks loose because, as Tricky put it, "You broke the rules of our partnership..."
I of course laughed at her ridiculousness as she went on to point out other instances of Jerome being gay. We went to the Family Jamm in 2003 and she started talking about how gay he acted during the Family's performance, running and prancing around. The more I think about it, I think she may be on to something. Some of y'all seem to know some of these folks personally, hence the question. Is Jerome gay? She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

What about the scene where Jerome is behind the counter with Katy and when they come up, Katy is buttoning her shirt?
The partnership is that they are gigolos. Christopher works the ladies, Tricky handles the money. Christopher is not supposed to let feelings get involved. Get the money they can, and run. I was under the impression that they were related throughout the movie. So that's the character in the movie anyway. As far as Jerome Benton being gay...I thought I heard years ago he was married with kids. [Edited 5/20/10 3:41am]

This thread is an insult to a married man with children that you don't even know.

The question is not meant as an insult. It's just a question. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

The answer is no. | |

To answer the original question. I can't say becuz I don't know anything about him outside of what I see on screen and on stage.
To comment on the "he's married and has children" responses. Being married w/ children doesn't necessarily mean that you're heterosexual. We all have heard of people who led double-lives or of people who have came out during their marriage. I'm not saying that this is the case w/ Jerome. Again, I don't know if Jerome is or isn't, Only he knows.

no hes not gay , in interviews he acts normal.
i think that its just his stage persona to act campy and gay i sure you would act campy and gay if you got payed to do that

oh, when i said that i don't know anythin' about him outside of what i see on screen and stage wasn't meant to say that he is gay. i said i didn't know if he is or isn't. i don't know him personally, so i can't give a definitive answer either way. how i see it is if he is..ok or if he isn't....that's cool too. no disrespect intended either way.

O LAwd! I always got the impression that Mr. Benton was Sweet on Prince. [Edited 5/20/10 10:13am] Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I was just saying that because something is possible doesn't make it probable. There are not nearly as many "down low brothas" as magazines and media try to make us believe. Its sensationalism. That's what has driven our culture (American culture) to be suspicious of everyone all of the time. As has been stated, some people on here know some of the people that get discussed. How often has this question come up? Almost never. Sometimes an apple is just an apple. As a matter of fact, MOST times it is. Only a few have worms in them.

I met him in a hotel lobby mastur...I mean, I met him in Holland in a hotel lobby about 15 years ago. The way he was checking out the ladies didn't exactly indicate that he was a player of the pink oboe.

to be honest i thought their reletionship in UTCM was a little questionable too

True, an apple will always be an apple. At least, until you make apple pie That was corny as hell!!!!!

In 1989/90 I was a member of the Minneapolis chapter of Queer Nation. Gary Schiff, who is now an elected member of the Minneapolis board of supervisors, proposed that we do an action at Prince's Glam Slam Club on their 'ladies' night'. I never understood the point of the action, but I remember being outside Glam Slam handing out Queer Nation flyers when Jerome Benton showed up. I was really excited at the time to see Jerome in the flesh, but he dampened my enthusiasm by what he said to us. He said "If god wanted gay people he would have created Adam and Steve not Adam and Eve" He actually said that! He said it to me! I've never forgotten what a douche-bag he was in that particular moment.

That's not a new statement. It's echoed by a lot of harsh religious communities, and it's a dumb argument anyway. Fundamentally, it doesn't make sense to even say that.

hell no Jerome aint gay. he is a bonafide Ho though. any tail Morris and Prince done had... best believe Jerome was chompin on sloppy seconds.
UTCM is an extension of the Giggolos Get Lonely Too theme. Chris and Tricky are paid whores and apparently they're not all that good at what they do since they're late on the rent. Ultimately they both fall hard for the girl who was only meant to be a temporary cash cow. The dialogue between them is hilarious and not all too different from what you would have heard between Morris and Jerome in PR had their scenes been extended. They mock each other, support each other, and are in competition with each other. The best I can describe this film is a poor urban mans' version of Some Like It Hot without the drag.

That statement is ridiculous to me because it's nothing to do with what God wants. God probably doesn't want people to get hit by trucks or be born with facial deformities but it happens - the act of being born and the conduct of living are two totally separate things . Honestly it doesn't sound like something that would even come out of Jerme's mouth - he doesn't seem that religious and political. You sure that wasn't an impersonator? Next time anybody says that to you under any circumstance just look them dead in the eye and say "If God didn't want me then I wouldn't be here...but I am here!" It will shut 'em down real quick.
