Hey now!

My nickname was Dap Sugah (Sugar), with the extended line of "the pimp, the playa, the woman laya...the who-de-do of the Southeast crew."

I actually stole "the pimp, the playa" line from "The Coldest Rap", Ice T's first 12inch single, released in 84, I believe. And many dont know...it was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Ahh...the good ole days!

Oh yeah... my era too. class of '84. Now to have a line like that... you had to be fine.
lol

redface Here I am flirting like a high school girl on the org. boxed

Those were the good ole days. biggrin

What if it was a proven fact that Prince sleeps with men? What if he just came out and said it, and tongue kissed a man on television. Would that make you any less of a fan because of it? It would not change my opinion of Prince in the least, because it's always been there. Folks just had to admit that their heroes are human, and may engage in things that they themselves may not be into. "Put your mouth out baby if you wanna get shot". LOL

-----
I would still be a fan if he is gay but none of things you mentioned have happen and at this late date I doubt they will. P has stepped on so many people to get to the top if he is gay or bisexual someone would have outed him along time ago.
I am not sure even his lucky ass would have been able to prevent an "outing"

nod that is why I give Prince a pass. He alarms the gaydar so hard that it has to be intentional. And now he is so conventional RELIGIOUS, not just spiritual but FUNDAMENTALLY RELIGIOUS that he would have a hard time keeping this secret so I don't believe he would even chance a homosexual encounter.

I have always thought that Prince real life persona is straight up pimp daddy. The whole high heel boots... two fold... he is very self concious about his height so the boots gives him some height and high heel or platform shoes is so 70 playa/pimp look.

I have always belived that dude does shit to shock, piss people off and sell records.
Nobody can keep this secret double life going in the public eye for over 30 years and never have any of it get out to the public. Especially when P has not been in the running to win a popularity contest for a very long time.

and that is SUCH A TRUE STATEMENT. There are so many who have accused Prince of stealing songs, not giving credit for work done, not paying for work done... etc. Any one of those disgruntle people could have dropped a dime on him. but none have. I believe it is because there is no dime to drop.

I hope that Jerome Benton doesn't see this thread.Remember when this topic came up several years ago? Jerome appeared at some event (a concert?) and he spoke to a few fans and said something like "Those folks on Prince.org really need to go out and get jobs!" lol He was obviously referring to this issue.

I always suspected that every man that has been strongly affiliated with Prince was bisexual or gay I really wish you guys could see this documentary of Prince's original band members before he got big. Prior to the Time. This dude Pepe (prince's cousin's husband) and some other dude were talking about prince's assencion to stardom. The other dude looking like a homo-thug said, when Prince started to "blow up" he saw him walking into First Avenue with his "cute little pink pants", and "he was looking all cute and everything". He said this with a straight face. What straight man says this about another straight man. Is this only something unique to men who live in Minnesota?

Now, hey I have nothing personally against anyone who is gay. I guess thats why I kinda wish folks would just come out of the closet. It boggles my mind that some folks still cant see that Prince likes men and women. Listen to the lyrics people! Look at the photos...it's right in your face BAM! I betcha folks thought that that "Sexy MF'r that Prince was singing about was a woman. LOL

hmmm so let me get this straight (no pun intended)

Jerome Benton is gay.
Prince is bisexual.

You learn something new everyday on this site lol

Later around the Gold era, I knew one of Prince's assistants. He was gay and used to bring his partner to Paisley parties and such. One time they were on the dance floor kind of grinding on each other. Prince came up to them and kind of joined them! Apparently he said something like, "You guys look like you are having a lot of fun!" Of course that doesn't mean much as far as defining Prince's sexuality, but it gives a clue to where Prince's head might be at. No-one should make assumptions. No-one should get made if anyone speculates.

I have absolutely no doubt that Prince is attracted to women, and probably as fantastic sex with them (whether the women strap on for him or not, I really dont know), but I also know that just because a man surrounds himself with attractive women by no means is any indication that they do not also sleep with men. Look how man "Down Low' men there are out there, married men. Men that don't wear high heals and walk around with pants with their booties literally hanging out, and these men sleep with men, and go home to their wives make love to them, and hug and rub their children on their heads. Come on...for someone to say that Prince has not had time in 30 years to sleep with a man because "he's a ladies pimp" lacks total imagination in my book. Folks remain in denial about thier heroes.

Seriously! There's a whole section called "Prince Music and More" where his sexuality is discussed almost daily. No need to turn Jerome's thread into a Prince thread. Anyway, this topic should be locked. Its done. It was doomed from the jump.

I met someone who was from Minneapolis who said something similar. This guy said his older brother used to go to gay clubs in Minneapolis and that Prince was in there all the time picking up men. I could definately believe it if he had said it was during the "For You" era or even in the early months of the "Prince" album before it blew up. But this guy said it was during the "Purple Rain" era which made it totally unbelievable because Prince was such a big star then that it would have been all in the tabloids the next morning. I could have believed it if he had said that someone approached them at a table and asked if they'd like to be with someone famous for the evening and then they went outside and saw Prince waiting in a car. Now, that would have been believable but Prince himself in there was totally unbelievable.

Anyway, I do believe Prince is gay. I used to think that he had men's mouths shut either by contracts or by fooling with the only type of men that never would want the truth about themselves out, even if was for sleeping with a high profile person like Prince, they would just die if someone found out that they themselves were anything other than straight. There are men out there like that called trade and in their minds, they think they are straight. On the other hand, considering how Prince is concerning his religion, especially in recent years to the point that it's sickening, I wouldn't be surprised if he is gay but has never acted upon it. I can definately see that as a possibility. But I know one thing, if that bitch is straight, then so am I. lol

It's a bit off because I got criticized for saying something negative about Robin Power. I wasn't banned or anything, but I was "reminded" about Robin's (sporadic) presence on here. But apparently Jerome and Prince's sexuality, etc are fair game.

Just sayin'.

So...it's an insult to Jerome to merely ask if he is gay? I disagree. Not that this is my favorite org topic, but it seems like you are saying that being thought of as gay is somehow a slur or something. I find THAT idea offensive.

On top of that, I mentioned earlier how Jerome had insulted gay people. If Jerome is going to run around insulting gay people, should anyone give two shits about whether Jerome got his feelings hurt cause someone wondered if he might be gay?

Let's put this HETEROSEXISM in perspective, shall we?

Its not insulting, its just not true. If someone asked if Jerome was biracial - it would be met with the same type of responses.
One problem with society nowadays is that people have been conditioned to question everything believing that it makes them more intelligent in some way.
Part of intelligence is the ability to recognize and analyze information. The facts are the facts. Dude isn't gay. Too many people know him and know this. People just like controversy.

These type of stories are ridiculous lol I remember hearing a story like in the early 80s,except that it was about Michael Jackson. The story goes that,in early 1982,he supposedly threw a big party and invited his celebrity friends. His "gay lover" crashed the party, got drunk and made a scene...crying as he shouted things like "Michael....why can't we tell the world about us?! Why you always keepin' me a secret??!!".The other guests were shocked.

I didn't believe this story,just like I don't believe those crazy Prince stories,lol.

I wasn't making any assumption about how much you care. However one would assume that by participating in a conversation on a message-board you were minimally curious about other viewpoints than yr own.

I am not arguing that Jerome Benton in of any particular orientation. My contribution to this thread has been to critique what I see as heterosexist viewpoints and to share my own lived experience of Jerome Benton having insulted gay people nearly 20 years ago.

But to respond to yr point in particular. Plenty of married men with children have sex with men. Often they do it in secret. That is a COMMON fact. I'm not saying that that's how Benton has lived. I have no frig'n clue, but being married proves nothing.

Your response is a weak attempt to deter from the facts. MOST, not some, but MOST men are heterosexual. MOST, not some but MOST men who are married are heterosexual. Trying to use an unlikely probability to substantiate a factual point is the sign of a failing argument. There is a 10% chance that Jerome Benton would be gay. Of that 10%, the chance that someone with his personality type would be "closeted" is even less likely. The gay conspiracy theories get annoying sometimes. Lots of false rumors get passed along these days as "common facts" when they are anything but. Since there are those around the org that know him personally, I'd say its pretty sound that if he were chasing men by now, the whole org would know so and this would be a topic that came up fairly frequently. Casting doubt on facts is a sign of insincerity and speaks on one's character.
So he said some ugly shit to you back in the day. Sorry. That was wrong and its understandable why you would be frustrated with him. Nobody on here said his opinions on homosexuals were particularly insightful. That doesn't make him gay. Again, sometimes its not the term that's insulting, its the lie that is. There is nothing wrong with being gay. Still, people are often insulted when you call them something they aren't, simply because it is not true.

The latest stats are more like 3%, actually. I'm not arguing that he is gay. I'm just stating the FACT that married men have sex with men (and other women for that matter) and they often hide it. If don't think that fact casts doubt on Jerome in particular, but it should make everyone think in a more adult way about the truth about people's sexualities.

It's like this "Never assume anything about anyone's sexuality, including your own" - Larry-Bob Roberts.

As far as whether asking if someone is not heterosexual is offensive, I don't believe it is.
