an update to my situation with the site and downloads. I have been charged twice for the songs and still no downloads. I have e-mailed them and am waiting for a response before I even try the video. I have seen the video though, and think it's pretty fucking great.

If Prince is going to release new song after new song this year, and have enough to download to make an album, I will be perfectly happy with that, as long as we get previews of the songs.

I haven't downloaded the Breakfast song because there are no samples that I am aware of.

I hope a model like this works for him, because it would work for me too.

Prince has deliberately kept his famz stoopid, so now they can't even operate a simple website like his webshop and instead babble about "streaming". If Prince fans hadn't been prosecuted over and over again there now would be a smart fanbase who would be able to understand concepts liek downloads et al. Moreover, people would simply point those having troubles to an extensive online FAQ. But here on the Org you cannot even link to official videos or one of Andy Allo's Facebook posts because heavens forbid Princey wakes up on the wrong side of the bed one day and decides to sue the Org for the umpteenth time over some imagined slight.

I'm half inclined to run a website where I simply don't give a fuck about all that and simply post links to anything and everything, but then I realise I cannot be arsed. It's just not worth the hassle.

As to converting....I disagree....most people want simplicity, this is why Itunes and Iphones are so damn popular. We shouldn't have to waste time converting things, we are not all ex techies with too much time on our hands, they should be ready for us. I know it's simple once you install the software...but the average non hardcore fan doesn't have the time or the inclination to fiddle about with it. They just want to be able to slap it onto their Mp3 player...DONE...

I'm surprised you are so keen to have his music in top quality since you constantly say the content of what he actually produces is the opposite.....

In a previous post you asked people to stop "wailing about wanting WAVs" but surely they're entitled to ask for what they want, given that most of what's been provided thus far has been lossy.

According to the survey I did recently that got almost 600 reponses, as many fans want a physical product (CD, vinyl, DVD, Blu ray, etc...) as they do a digital product and over 40 respondents specifically mentioned high quality or lossless files as being paramount in the comments, despite the fact that there was no specific question about that in the survey (of course now I wish I'd put one in).

I realise that it's annoying to those that are happy with MP3s that it became such a dominant part of this discussion, but I think it's also very telling - there are clearly a lot of audiophiles within the Prince fan community and The Powers That Be would do well to acknowledge that by providing them with a product that they're happy to spend money on, be it on CD/vinyl or via a fully lossless digital download option.

I think the annoyance with the topic is that it is not solely a Prince issue but a general issue which could translate to any artist selling music over the internet. The discussion is valid but it should have it's own thread.

UDO - No it's not just for the 'followers', it's for the everyday music buyer and it's a model that's very successful. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication so said Steve Jobs and on that he was right. If rivals such as Android phones etc made simplicity the key they would be more popular with the mainstream too. I think for bootleggers like you you would be against it as it protects rights etc....

I can DL and convert and stuff, but i'm talking here about the average music buyer out there - they don't have time or the inclination to overcomplicate things.

CHIQITET: I agree, in fact I would prefer CD versions of things, that's the ideal, but if he's only offering dowloads then mp3s and WAVs will do.

But if he only offer WAVs that would be silly as 50% of the average downloaders wouldn't know what to do or could be bothered to convert them.

If you're paying for a song you expect the provider to do that work for you...not for you to make work for yourself.

I also think that survey is unintentionally biased in the sense that it only polls people who use these forums, who are mostly likely quite techy anyway.....if you polled the average young person or concert goer the results may be different. I wouldn't have thought Prince fans are any more audiophile than any other fans of the 60/70/80s greats...

Give the choice is probably the best option P can do....
