Fair point. There will be a few people who really don't have £70 to spare. But there will also have been people who thought "Well, for £10 I might as well check him out, even though I don't really know much about him". The £70 price would have eliminated those people. Nothing is foolproof, but on the whole I think this was a good way of doing things. Manage people's expectations, then exceed them - that's almost always a good plan.

either way enuff fans will be there ! enjoy it one and all

Yes, this is amazing for those that went and queued. There's gonna be some real complaints from those that were put off by the price though!

RIP sad

I very much doubt it. He did a 2 hour show on Wednesday for that price.

Prince loves to play.

And even if he does a 90 minute show (as he did for the 1st Wednesday show), you're still getting to see Prince in a small-ish venue for £10. Bargain.

Apparently now confirmed only £10 to get in Shepherds Bush Empire.

This gets worse as far as organisation is concerned. Can see why maybe mention high prices, but true fans are being taken the piss out of here.

There's just no downside at that price.

i have to agree - lots of moaning on here - however it seems only those willing to pay £70 initially and queue all day are to be rewarded - defo time to start selling tickets now

Huh? I don't really understand this. Some people would complain if Prince came round their house, I think.

Ask the people who paid £10 to see him tonight if they feel like they've had the piss taken out of them. They'll laugh at you.

Not everybody will be able to get to every gig (I can't go tonight) but he said he'll be here for a while so hold on. I would expect him to play the Kentish Town Forum at some stage for the North Londoners, the Brixton Academy for the South Londoners, and I dunno, maybe the Troxy for East London? And that's without mentioning the tiny shows that most of us don't stand a chance of getting into (Bag O' Nails, etc).

Not really, it's a pre-emptive move to weed out the casual element who were total knobs with queue jumping and surging, only there because it was so cheap. There's no perfect solution but I think they've gone for the best approach.

It absolutely is. I'm not complaining about tonight, I actually think it's pretty good and a real treat for those that did go along. This must have been the intention all along because £70 - £10 is massive. And they'll make less money if it's now filled to capacity than if they'd charged the 1,200 people queuing the£70. They obviously realised after Wednesday that they'd get far too many people go along if it was announced as £10 up front. I realise that some people will be upset but maybe Prince does not mind his fans too much after all.

I decided not to go before I read it was £70 as I really didn't want to be standing in the cold again. When I read it was £70 I was very pleased I hadn't gone and now it's £10 I'm just happy for those that did go.

But it would be really, really good if they did start doing some ticketed shows. I'm not sure they can pull off the high price but not really ruse again. People will get very upset if they go for a £70 show now and actually get charged £70!

RIP sad

Incidentally, I notice that Matt Everitt from BBC6 posted a photo of the Shepherds Bush Empire 11 hours ago. That's three hours before the announcement on Cerys Matthews' show.

https://twitter.com/matteveritt

Might be worth keeping an eye on his Twitter feed from now on.

While on that thought, I have been pretty impressed at how well they've managed to keep this gig a secret. I'm pretty sure this would have to have been booked at least a couple of days ago (it would be difficult to organise bar staff, security, box office etc at just a few hours notice) but there has been not a peep from anybody.

As i said, i can see the reasons...

However, all they've really done is give fans the run around.

Possibly the problem is there's nothing like the old fan club where fans got the heads up on gigs etc.

Good luck to all those that have queued all day though. Duly rewarded. Sadly i have a life outside Prince so will hold tight for any pre-sale ticketed do's.

I dont understand all this secrecy?

Why not just announce where he is playing and sell tickets?

So let me get this straight...

12:00 today (Sunday) it is announced on BBC Radio 6 that Prince & 3EG are playing Shepherds Bush. Initially the price is believed to be £70. At last minute price is dropped to £10, people in the line are getting "numbered" to prevent queue jumpers AND everyone is getting a free coffee. NOT BAD!

You lucky so-and-sos. Just cannot get there myself. Am mega jealous but also happy for you all...no honest I am really happy for you!!!!!! lol

Clearly they have read about the chaos that happened on Wednesday with the queue and learned from that. Just hope we get a little more notice/tix for those of us who simply don't have the flexibility...IF ANYONE IS READING THIS HINT HINT HINT

[Edited 2/9/14 11:55am]

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Well ive had one hell of a day.soon as announcement came I started getting hubby ready to leave , but he was having none of it as been working all night.so ive acted like a precocious child all afternoon question is why?.think some of us old p fans where really ready for this its ignited our passion and love for the man again.i know I for one have done nothing foe the last 2 weeks but play old p albums long forgotten.its taken us babk to the wembley days and how it was too be a true fan. Lets be honest his never been reliable and always been tempramental .I remember the wembley arena tour he didnt come on till 10 and only played an hour but I was just glad to be there .then there was blenheim palace what a let down that was when it didnt happen.but truly thats why his an artist not a performer his art comes first even before us and us oldies still love him for it .im glad all this has gone on as really has fuelled us up with passion for the minneapollis maestro.

I suspect the initial ticket price given was to weed out the casual goers and buy some valuable travel time for the fans who were prepared to pay. Clever. But you can only get away with that one time. I didn't see the announcement until mid-afternoon and didn't think I'd get there in time to get a place. Like a lot of folks on here, still hoping that he'll do some ticketed gigs at some point.
All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.
