I am curious about one thing, how did Stefan Raab fail to get Prince on TV Total? I know Raab is a huge fan of Prince and I was really expecting him to appear on his show this week, especially with the concert being in Köln, which is where the Pro 7 studio is based. Anyone know why this did not happen?

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

From what I've read/reading from some of these reports on how some in the audience behaved, well I could understand the sound issues being a problem, but that's no excuse for grown folks to throw items on stage at him and the band members and threaten their security.

The items were thrown after the bandmembers had left. So no threatening of security.

Some of the reactions like "he has lost it", are indeed bullshit because the Ghent show was great.

I still hate Shelby J.

Like i said in my first post here, after the torture (concert) we were told at the information, that the sound was set for prince by professionals for a great experience, but Prince and his people came and changed it all! He wanted 2 have it louder! Even during his performance people were complaining about the loud sound and the arena staff contacted prince people many times but without any changes! So it might be, that the arena has not a perfect sound but real proffesionals can even handle that...The first thing 2 do is to turn down the volume a bit. For that u dont need a sound engineer!

Reading all kinds of comment on the sound at this and other shows. I've noticed a couple of times that it seems to be Prince who wants to turn the volume up.

Of course I am hardly allowed to say it over here, but could this really not be an issue that Prince himself is involved in?

Well, that was still rude, and by the way, you say you hate Shelby J?eek That's kind of twisted, seeing how you don't know her, but I doubt your hatred towards her takes anything away from her existence.

Do you mean it's outside his influence or scope of management? Could be, but there were days when Prince did the sound (I mean literally being at the soundcontroldeck) at the soundcheck in the afternoon before the show. Now he seems to prefer to be at the stage when there is a soundcheck and apparently likes to do that after the official concert has started... smile

Just watching the Luxumbourg concert from the 13th July, 17 mins in and still no sign of Prince, it is easy see why people are getting worked about this, I dont go to a Prince concert to watch his bandmates take center stage...

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Was wondering when the Troll would turn up changing peoples names like a 5 year old does.

Now, THAT'S constructive, Ena!! kiss2

I think its strange that people who probably would complain if they paid 80€ in a restrauant and got a shit meal, think we have to accept bad concert conditions.

At the price artists are charging these days, we have the right to accept certain standards.

Exactly. Like you said, no one is perfect all the time, not even Prince. I highly disagree with comments how Prince sucks these days. At least, last gig in Finland was a lot better than ActII concert in Stockholm 18 years ago. Prince was more present than those days. 21st of July was one of the best shows I've witnessed - among the Lovesexy-88

I know it dont change anything, but I'm really sorry for all of you that had this terrible experience.

Considering that a soundcheck was done before the show(described as late) and the sound was still poor really is baffling?

Anyone work in the biz that can give us an insight on who does the sound for the tour, is it the venue, or does Prince have his own sound guys.....my lay thinking is that regardless who does it, someone should be playing instruments on stage during a soundcheck to get it right for the night.

People who have attended have every right to be disappointed, they have paid their hard earned to attend something special that wasn't to be. To the poster that went to 4 shows in LA I'm happy you had a good time, but taking the piss out of people that that had this experience is out of line. no no no!

BTW you got off pretty lightly.

Many are disappointed and others angry, but the comments that Prince has lost it live are way off. He is getting better with age, his voice and giutar playing are impeccable, that you didn't get a chance to experience this is a real shame. The quality of the shows on this tour have been great with only 1st night @NSJ and this show in Cologne suffering from sound. Yes, it should not happen and hopefully it wont happen again.

Onto Dublin, and to everyone going have a great time.

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

I don't know who ultimately makes the call on the volume in a hall, but I do know that what you hear onstage is completely different than what you hear in the audience.

They do a completely separate mix for the musicians, and each musician can request more vocals in the monitor or less guitar depending on what they specifically want to hear. The musicians are not even hearing it through the same speakers as the crowd.

So Prince might want it loud, but it is possible he does not even know how loud it is.

quoting nonesuch from another thread:

"

official statement about Cologne concert

An official statement from the local promoter about the concert in Cologne had just been sent to media:

In response to the articulated criticism towards the course of yetserday's conert by Prince, which we contentaly and moraly understand, we would like to state the follwoing as local representative:

Neither the promoter nor the venue has any influence on the sound at all.

Aspects like sound levels, set lists or production are responsabilities of the artists and their respective crews alone. All equipment for sound and light for yesterday's concert was being brought and handled by the artist and his crew.

Neither Dirk Becker Entertainment as promoter nor Lanxess Arena as place of event have a saying on the length of a concert event.

There were no regulations being made for yesterday's concert with Prince that the concert had to be ended at any certain time. Those decisions are/were being made by the artist alone.

We regret any inconveniences experienced by fans and would like to present a statement by the artist or his management towards yesterday's incidents, but despite numerous attempts we didn't come across one as yet.

I knew that Prince was not known for always having a good sound on stage. But here it is beyond measure: Ghent: good sound, good show, in Luxembourg: Bad sound, poor balance (it was a pity with the reinforcement of the saxophone) in Köln: disastrous, he mocked the public. For me, a curfew of 23 hours is a joke and a good excuse. See the audience booing him and throwing cans was a painful moment for me. I almost cry. I was ashamed for him. Why? It is the responsibility of Prince to surround himself with good technicians. Especially when it is at this level and is said to love this audience. I am very disappointed but also very sad.
