Never again Cologne. The same shit as 1998. Prince, never choose Cologne again, they are amateurs....

Exactly the reason why i didn't go this time.1998 the sound sucked bigtime. The aftershow at the Live Music Hall was well worth the trip though.. smile

He should definitely have played longer by way of apology, it's indoor right? Any ill will from the audience could easily have been erased by going on a bit longer (even if it's not directly his fault, it's not exactly great PR for him). This is the same guy who apprently is going to "play eight hours" in Dublin....hmmm.

Hello everyone.

Just come back from concert. I am a very very huge Prince fan, paid 515Eur for Monte Carlo 2009 Prince... but today, this was the worst concert I have ever been. The sound was shit shit shit. If you want to pay to damage your years, go to a Prince concert.
I had my best concert with Prince and today the worst I have ever been. 4 people beside me left the building after 4 songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I`ll have to say it, if the sound stays (don`t know if it is Lanxess arena or Prince for the sound problems?) I will never go to a Prince concert again!!!! You can pay me, never again.

Good night to every one and I wish every one a brillant concert of Prince!! because he can!!!!

Cheers

Just got back to hotel. I lost $1200 on the cancelled Oslo concert (not that my problems mean anything) so I forked out to come here before flying home to nz from London tomorrow. What a fuckin waste.

After he started again, Prince mentioned "its like in the 1800s here".... And "no curfew, no curfew!". In 1998 in Cologne the same happened. Larry took his time and Prince needed to leave the stage before 11pm to avoid any penalties due to the curfew in Cologne. (The Lanxess Arena is within the city and flats)
Cologne is having a curfew, so simply avoid Cologne next time if you do not want to pay the fee. Or use your own sound engineers....

I'm sorry for you. Really am.

Hope he will go to your side of the globe and there will be a second chance.... (for Prince, that is wink)

Maybe we shouldnt blame Prince, after the problems how could he go on when he must stop by 23.00?

He COULD go on after 11pm but then he needs to pay the fee. But Prince never changes. Like his quote in the 90s: "it's not important to be number 1 in the charts, it's important to be number one in the bank!"
He is using the sound engineers of the the venue in Cologne because he wants to save money. Cologne is well known here to have sound problems so he should use his own engineers if he wants to have a good sound, start at time and avoid any delays.
If not: PAY THE F@@@ING PENALTY NEXT TIME!!!!

...when they came back after the long break, the sound was pretty good, but the concert wasn't. It's ueseless to always blame the others, the sound engineers, the arena...bla bla bla...all bullshit! Because it happens all the time, also in Rotterdam they had problems with the sound, and actually the sound is not the real problem.

The problem is, and already started years ago, that prince is sick of performing most of his own songs. It's not like in his great days or even in 2002 when he toured with a good new album that he really loved to perform. He used to create magic on stage. Now it's just a collection of his old big hits, performed without any passion.....Cologne, Rotterdam, Brussels, (even Montreux in 2009).....no matter where he performs, it's only disappointing....and I hate to say it, but really not worth the money and time anymore.

What a scandal, what a shame!

Worst Prince concert ever!

45min delay, than "Laydown" and stopped. No information.

After 35 min he started again. Terrible sound, no inspritaion!

No encore! After 75min the show was over! What?

I want my money back! This was shit! Once again Cologne (after a bad show in 98).

Prince, this was my last concert! Your best shows were in the past. Loved your Lovesexy, SOTT, D&P and ACT2 shows. But 98 was shit (except the aftershow in Cologne), 2002 (ONA) was okay and 2011 was THE GREATEST shit!

I have no clue how much. In the end, they use this only as a threat to avoid any trouble with citizens which live nearby. When Prince is gone, they can cope with these people, not Prince. So they tell him he needs to pay if he plays too long. Same thing happened in 1998.
Seriously, he started 45min too late, then stopped after one song and it took over 30 minutes to start again. "Please accept our apologies" & "We'll play until you go asleep to make it up!"....
Come on, stop these comments if you then leave after 90 minutes. He is making a fool of people paying 100 bucks, which is not a small amount of money....

The problem with the nowadays Prince is he doesn't have a concept anymore. No self challenging, no risk taking in musical terms, no overall theme that would unite a (new) record and a tour (read PR, SOTT, Parade, Nude etc tours &records) and no real stage *show* that deserves that name.

Why he doesn't try out new things like including a bit of Dubstep or Indie rock or Electro or whatever is beyond me.Seems like the only concept he nowadays has is resorting to play his hits and the "real music by real musicians" (yawn...if that had anything to do with the actualy quality of music) slogan.

I still would go to any aftershow i could get hold of but the main concerts...meh.

No way!!

I saw him at Hop Farm and he was ON IT! No 'going through the motions', he was having as great a time as we were - even if it was the millionth time he was banging out some of those tunes.

I guess we were just lucky that the setup on the day was acceptable to him!

Wish I was in Dublin tomorrow......

then we'll try to imagine... what silence looks like

...couldn't agree more. But I think he just cannot create great music anymore and I guess he's quite desparate himself realizing that he has run out of his incredible creativity. Damn. Maybe he should hire some good blues musicians, make a decent album and tour small venues...

And you go nuts about it, OK it was shit for you, but you still have all the spoons.

Get over it, buy a ticket for another concert and see him rock.

It makes me sad to hear the reviews are that bad, especially for all of you that paid hard earned money to see him, after hopfarm i was telling all my friends in germany to go, judging by this i hope they have not...

Prince is a big artist and the truth is, he should never allow these things to happen...he is ruining his own reputation...

Plus points seem to be the set list...especiallly alphabet street cool

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

And you are right with that. I've been to 20+ concerts and still will go to more. The concert itself was more than okay, Stratus & Laydown were great! Just simply too short and not well organized. Hope he does it better in Denmark!!!

Thank you, Cologne.

Keep celebrating your red nose carnival, your old man combos like "De Höhner"...where the audience is going to bed at 10pm...

But try never....never again to present a real musician who is able to play more than tschinderrassabum.

This was the second time you fooled me. And this time for 290 bucks. Thank you.

O2 in London back in 07..inculding the aftershow gig...great

Vienna last year...great...I had tears in my eyes

Rotterdam, 14.07. this year...amazing....

Sorry..this is a strange coincidence....after the mess back in 98...

Prince...if you read this...I saw your joy and passion...don´t mind about the people who think you have to play "Purple Rain" and this old stuff over and over again in order to deliver a good show.

Keep away from Cologne...and play next year in Rotterdam again.

By the way: We will contact the organizer to refund the money. For sure.

(akime from germany...adoring HIM since the purple days....)......and....sorry for less quality in grammar...if your german is in a better shape....it´s up 2 u wink

Nightcrawler

The technical problems in the beginning and the long delay after that killed the flow of the whole gig. That's not Princes fault. The curfew (and there is one) wasn't Princes fault either. And the bad sound (especially the guitar) also wasn't his fault. If all of these things wouldn't have happened, we would have gotten a good, long concert. The setlist was perfect as was Princes performance and his energy. Too bad for Cologne, but certainly not a sign that he doesn't deliver anymore.
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

I think that we witnessed Prince's last concert in Germany ever.

Berlin last year wasn't sold out but there were said to be 14.000, there may have been 8000 in Cologne with the promoter making a huge loss.

It was indeed a very short concert and the sound was the worst I heard in the Lanxess Arena, but I enjoyed my evening.

I am not tired of hearing Kiss or Controvery live. I enjoyed "A Love Bizarre" but thought the guitar solo of Shhh could have been better. With my ear protection in place I even enjoyed Laydown.

But the way he treated the audience was beyond unbelievable. Not only the 30 minute break due to sound problems (soundcheck anyone?) was difficult to digest, but he even angered some people so much that they threw beer at the stage and sound enginers.

After the last song he left the house lights off for 5 minutes before switching them on and letting the roadies dismantel the stage. If he knew earlier that he would finish after "love Bizarre" he may as well have the houslights on after 90 seconds to avoid mayhem.

I think he was contracted to a minimum of 75 minutes. So we had Laydown as an add-on wink

He looked really tired though. Dark circles under his eyes. But he managed to danced, smile and even sang with a young girl on stage and gave her hi-five. He definitely needs to work on his social skills.
