yeah I dunno what that Disco Heat was all about. I mean it was a Shelby n dem showcase for sure. Was he on stage for that or not? I can't remember. I think he was.

I LOVED Disco Heat. It is my favorite Sylvester song. I thought playing that in NYC was fantastic. It is a real party starter. Following it with Baby I'm A Star was great.

I like the way it followed Welcome 2 America, which was too funky. I hope he records that the way it was performed.

Who is Disco Heat by (the artist/group)???

Astasheiks said: From whati remember, yes. Interestingly when he started Uptown and then stopped the band for the crowd to sing, I actually thought it was Raspberry Beret but with a diff arrangement (I.e. Guitar intro instead of strings) In fact I'm still not totally sure he wasn't doing RB and then switched on purpose because the crowd "messed up". If in fact that was the Uptown intro, I never realized how si,lar the songs are or they must use similar chord progression.

I thought he just did the intro to Uptown then switched right in to Raspberry Beret, then stopped

and checked to see if we wanted him to go back to Uptown. Which we did. And he did.

I could very well be wrong though. I might have thought I heard Raspberry Beret just because

I already knew it was the next song in that Uptown/RB/Cream/Cool/U Got the Look set.

I like how he asked a couple of times "do you know about the Dirty Mind?!" thumbs up!

A much welcome change from the likes of "there's a theocratic order" nod

Yeahhh... And I may be crazy and this could easily be an inkblot thing where you hear what you wanna hear, lol. But at one point the band was into this groove that could have turned into a number of different songs. I swore he was about to go "Remember when I met you baby, you were on your way to be wed..." and I was excited ...just for a moment. Then I thought he's probably retired that one for real, lol.

It was Uptown because I almost passed out, as it is one of my favorite favorites and I have only seen him perform it live once (at the NPGMusicClub Party in Chicago). I screamed a lung out when he started it and almost shed a tear when he stopped it and went into Raspberry Beret (or was it Cream?). Then my ectasy returned when he went back to Uptown and played the entire song. What a FABULOUS night!!!

definitely one of my life anthems to live by.i 2 was freaking when he played that

OMG! We were the only two people in our section who seemed to know the words to 'Uptown'. The moment that lyric came on: "She said, 'R U Gay?'" We went bananas! We screamed those lyrics because mofos in our section obviously needed to be schooled a little better.

lol yeah, retired disbelief

On the other hand I was really glad that he decided to go back in to Uptown!

My great friend Rev that I was at the MSG show with was 12 when his older brother

snuck him in to a Dirty Mind club show in 1980 so I was psyched for him to get

to see Uptown live! This is the dude that drove us to 3 Lovesexy shows in 2 states

when I was 16. bow

He was a few years older than me & we were hanging out due to our mutual respect

for Prince's music, and he was the person that gave me my first in depth exposure

to more of Prince's side projects. There is a great story of how when I was like 15

i gave him a tape I had made for him of "funky music" that had like Erasure on it

and a Beatles song with a horn section in it, maybe a Duran Duran 12" neutral

Needless to say, a couple of days later he responded by showing up at my house

with his older brothers' James Brown & P-Funk albums and was clear in his statement:

"...now THIS is funky" lol lol

He gave me back my tape and handed me one that he made for me which was a killer

mix of all kinds of stuff I hadn't heard before like album cuts from The Time, Jesse Johnson,

Mazeratti, Sheila E 12 inches w/b-sides, etc etc, so it was extra great for me that Prince

played Cool for us at MSG because the first time I ever heard that song was on the tape that

Rev made for me thumbs up!

Yes it would be nice if he sang a "Question of U" with a performance including the ballet dancer Misty Copeland, the way they performed the "Beautiful Ones" together.

I know!!! There were a lot of first-timers and casual fans in the crowd. I think my sister and I were the only ones in our section who knew it as well. I didn't care though, because I sang it loud enough for everyone! I think I might have permantently damaged a vocal chord on that one. lol lol

I LOVED the addition of Misty to the Beautiful Ones. It was really electric on Friday night. I already knew who she was before Prince because my cousins are classical ballerinas. So, when I saw that Prince used her in C&C and now on the tour, I thought it was great exposure for the second (not first) black soloist with ABT. She is, however, the first in more than two decades. I loved the quote from her that was selected for the tour book.

lol I think it would be choregraphed very well, and I'm sure many have already seen' one of Prince's performance of "Question of U" sometime ago. Prince and Misty's performance at MSG with the "Beautiful Ones" was done well. So imagine a choreographed number with "Question of U?" Say no more, and leave it to the imagination.biggrin

I prefer "Question of U". I think it would have a more dramatic effect, especially with them dancing together during the instrumental part of the song.
