Amazing nite!!!

There was a misty drizzle when I arrived in Chanhassen, but by Minnesota standards, the temperature was relatively mild. I watched out my hotel window as the Purple People began to file in with Big smiling faces. : )

The shuttle was a cinch, as well as the line and the time it took to get inside. The Love4OneAnother room was closed off but a remodeled bathroom with a common entry area circled to the right for women, and left for men.

The earlier reports capture the 'electric' feeling of walking into Paisley, the large room with a stage set to hold royalty.

The spot that I found had an excellent opening to see Prince but not much else of the stage. I was standing near where Lenka Paris was spinning. But I didn't know it was her til someone posted it on here. I the remix she made and was given away at First Avenue for the 7-07-07!! She did an excellent job keeping the crowd hopping prior to Prince's arrival.

Forever in my life was riveting, and beautiful jams one after another kept on rolling. Larry Graham and Prince rocked fantastic guitar duos. Pure Homegrown Excellence I hope this was taped, and will appear on Lotus for all the doubters. I'm a guitar fanatic, my ears don't lie, and that was FUNKY!!! Great to see Prince having so much fun, great to see Prince, period.

After the first encore i decided to go toward the back and when i inadvertently started toward the Love4OneAnother room. A guard standing nearby mistakenly said that the show was over. Not knowing how cold or wet it was outside, I headed for the bus. As we sat there on the bus, not many people were exiting the building. I had a familiar feeling that it wasn't OVA!!!

Purple Rain must have been the bomb...I would have loved to hear the new rendition. It always amazes me how Prince can imagine so many new sounds. Nothing can compare to the proximity or sound of the Art in Motion as Prince playing live.

Got back to the hotel about 2:30 am, and a vehicle was dropping someone off just ahead of me. When i stepped into the elevator I notice a beautiful young lady with a sharp purple/blue dress on. So i just had to ask if she had seen Prince. When she said yes and that she works for him I started realizing that this might be Shelby. So I asked and she said yes and seemed surprised that I'd recognized her. Then I told her that I'd seen one of her videos on the Org and this whole time I'm thinking, wow the orger 'japanrocks' would love to have been on that elevator ride : ) I read a few of his posts and I'll just say that Shelby is very fine, stunning and sweet!!

I drifted off to sleep dreaming about Prince, Paisley Park, and the happy family of friendly Purple Peeps Reality hit too soon, I woke up really early and went downstairs for a cup of coffee. On the elevator ride back to my room another woman looked like she could be a Prince fan. Not many people were up and about so I asked her if she had seen Prince. Turns out it was Prince's hairdresser!! She said that she's been fixing Prince's hair for (7 or 17) years. She said that they just got back from Paris and she had to head out to Paisley Park.

I told her that Prince's hair looked great and I thanked her for doing the Pretty Man's Do, keeping his hair looking fabulous. She was sweet and gracious also and it was fun bumping into two different people who work for Prince.

I decided to drive by Paisley before leaving town, It was still raining and kind of dreary. But there was hardly any evidence that something had happened there a few hours before. The grounds were clean and the building glowed. I popped in a Prince CD and drove away not knowing when or if he'll be back...

So Right Now, I'd like to thank Prince, the Band, Special Guests and Purple Peeps for the super special, Beautiful Nite!!!

Good times. Reading all these reviews brings back great memories. Thanks so much you guys!! I've enjoyed all the accounts. I've seen Prince many times, at PP and other venues, and I so would've liked to attend last night. I see my local news (WCCO) will be featuring a snippet of the show tonight. It's good to see Prince in the news here again (if only the Vikes had won today--it would've been the cherry on top of a perfect weekend!) Prince, I guess we hardly knew you. ¶ After 30-some years in the spotlight, the hometown hero showed his faithful something new Saturday night at Paisley Park in Chanhassen: It was his smoothest (read most efficiently run) show there ever -- and one funky and fulfilling performance. ¶ The gig advertised for 11 p.m. actually started at 11:10, unheard of at Paisley, where shows typically have started whenever Prince feels like it (read 1 a.m. at the earliest). For the first time, he even offered a free shuttle-bus service so people could leave their vehicles (and Paisley-verboten cell phones) at a newish nearby park-and-ride and take a plush bus for a eight-minute drive to Prince's complex. How slick was that?

Late-night shows were commonplace at Paisley in the late 1990s but Prince had not done any announced shows there since 2004, after his Musicology Tour concerts at Xcel Energy Center. Those soirees cost $50 whereas Saturday's gig (which was announced late Friday afternoon) was $31.21 for fan-club members and $40 for others. Paisley visitors were asked to donate items for food shelves and gently used coats. (Many articles of clothing still had store tags on them, and people literally donated coats off their backs, Paisley spokeswoman Kathy Adams reported.)

Many of the people at Paisley on Saturday seemed to be first-timers for the late-night Purple experience."I'd pay triple what I paid," said Kelly Wallace, 19, a wide-eyed New York University student who popped for $490 for her short-notice trip to Minnesota. "I've never been to Paisley Park -- it was now or never."

Prince played 10 minutes short of three hours without changing his outfit. That's a first. Moreover, there weren't any of those mysterious breaks where Paisley-goers were left wondering if he'd return again in an hour and perform until dawn. The Purple One made a couple exits before encores; he said his final good night at 2 a.m.

Prince showed more versatility and musicality in his first hour onstage than Michael Jackson did in his entire career. He started with a bunch of tunes from this year's "Lotusflow3r" collection and then paraded through his hits, especially from the 1980s. In fact, there wasn't one tune from the '90s and only "Feel 4 U" from the '70s.

With his horn-less band, Prince has never sounded funkier at Paisley. He was talkative and humorous, loose and spontaneous, calling out songs and arrangements as well as an occasional "so-low" for himself on guitar. To witness that kind of organic musicmaking always feels special -- especially when it's a well-drilled, first-rate band like Prince's -- even if you have to put up with the bandleader frequently telling the sound guy how to adjust the mix.

Prince saluted the Time, the Doobie Brothers and the Jackson 5 in song and verbally acknowledged his debt ("I wouldn't be who I am without...") to James Brown, the Jacksons, Chaka Khan, Rufus, Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, Joni Mitchell and Tower of Power. His pal Larry Graham sat in on bass for a series of Sly & the Family Stone tunes, and backup singer Shelby J, a powerhouse from the southern soul/gospel school, stepped out front on a couple of selections, most notably "The Arms of an Angel."

But this show was about Prince, his love of funk and his guitar prowess. He even offered a little "country western" guitar passage, as he playfully put it, and one of his more passionate versions of "Purple Rain" to close the evening. He danced only briefly, during "Kiss," but handpicked some fans to come onstage and dance, a longstanding Paisley tradition at any hour.

It was a whirlwind day for me yesterday: Went to Paisley Park, attended the show, and headed straight back (4 hours by car, both ways). I'm still pooped even though I slept til 4 in the afternoon today. I DVR'ed the Vikes game, so I had the "pleasure" of watching them lose when I woke up.

It was worth it all, though! If Genesia doesn't mind, I'll post my review of the concert a bit later, using her rundown (which is excellent!) as a template.

To me it's absolutely clear that our man is totally smitten with Bria and my female intuition tells me we might hearing wedding bells in the near future....
