Not much else to say really except I will anyway!. I was surprised (very pleasantly!) at how smooth things were. We arrived at the Park & Ride at 8:30, bus was right there. Got on and once it filled up were at Paisley in a few minutes. My name was right on the list, got a wristband, took our place in the Lotusflow3r line and after 20-30 minutes we were let in. Found a great spot towards the front and just stayed there until 11:05 or so when the three hour show began! You've read the reviews by now so already know how excellent it was! Thanks Prince for doing this again. It has been over two years since 7-07-07 so Minneapolis needed some funk!

OK - Other thing is that I know the "tall, dancing girl, doin' the shim" She had a blast!! I sent her the link to this thread and she loves it. She knows any fun-making by Prince was good natured and playful. She wrote me this:

"I ♥ IT ALL - & I especially love gender-bending Prince was a total sweetheart when he came up to me."

Hey there, orgers. I had an amazing time at Paisley this past Saturday, and I can't believe the gift that Prince gave us with that concert. It was also wonderful to talk to people, seeing familiar faces back from the Love4OneAnother era AND meeting newbies who were seeing Prince for the first time (at Paisley no less - WHAT a way to get your cherry popped! I am looking at you guys, Steven & Tera.)
Anyway, I sent an email to the music/culture desk at the Mpls CITY PAGES with my little "fan review" in it (along with set-list), and they published it verbatim. City Pages is a good Minneapolis weekly, but they don't seem to have any hard-core Purple People on their staff and thus they didn't have a first-hand review of the concert. They're relying on us! PS - One of my favorite moments of the concert was when Prince had Larry Graham up onstage (and yes, I know that we've all seen Larry and Prince play those same songs together before, but Larry Graham is a LIVING LEGEND, and I NEVER get tired of seeing those two onstage together), and Prince gave us all a brief list of his influences. He said something like "I wouldn't be the man [maybe he said 'artist'] I am today without Larry Graham," and THEN Prince went through and name-checked the following list:

James Brown
Stevie Wonder
George Clinton and P-Funk

The Jacksons
Tower of Power
Miles Davis
Carlos Santana

I am dead-certain that he said all of those names; I'm not exactly sure that I've got the ORDER right, or that I've got all of them. Does anyone have a clearer memory of this?

My only complaint about the night was the tickets for the general public were supposed to go on sale an 7:00pm, but they didn't open the gates until 8:00pm. Then when we got to the spot to buy our wristband they said you could only by one and that you couldn't leave! WTF??? I only wanted one for myself, but I sure as hell didn't want to stand in the parking lot for 2 plus hours to be let in. All ended well though, my friend and I came back at 10:30pm and there was no one in line to get tickets, so we didn't have to wait again and were able to get right up close to the left side of the stage. Okay maybe I have another complaint, the speakers on the left side of the stage were cutting in and out the entire night. Okay, I'm done! Had a blast though!

Since nearly everything has been covered, the only thing I wanted to add was a big thank you to ALL the orgers, and especially 2...ya'll know who you are... for making my first Prince concert simply amazing.

I flew in by myself after making arrangements at 4 am on Friday morning...and to be honest, I was a bit scared about heading in alone. But after meeting up with some fellow orgers, I had a great time at Paisley. I even bought a tambourine (which I was USING and subsequently annoying the quasi-fan in front of me, but hey, you live once right!). After dancing for the ENTIRE show (and eventually taking my boots shortly before the break before Purple Rain because my feet were KILLING me), my fellow orger and I managed to travel dead center toward the front of the dance floor maybe a few rows back from prince before he started Purple Rain. It was absolutely stunning. I've NEVER heard anyone play a guitar like that in my life, and you could tell the complete connection he had with his guitar, himself, and the audience... it was like for a couple of minutes, EVERYONE was connected as one. I know it sounds corny, but if you were there, you'd understand. It's like time stopped... it looked like that scene in the movie where everyone was swaying their arms back and forth and singing. I've never felt that before...and probably never will (except for at another prince concert of course)... Completely indescribable.

After the house lights went on, the ladies I was with reminded me to go toward the stage where they were handing out guitar pics. FYI: They're iridescent with the love symbol on them... very cool

Simply put, while I got 8 hours of sleep from Thursday until Sunday at 4 pm (and went into work today), Saturday night was definitely the best night EVER. I'm still in awe over what I saw... just how amazing the whole experience was...and how AMAZING prince is as an artist (singer/ guitarist/ musician/ light director :-p, everything)...

I'm so thankful for him putting on that concert and for you orgers telling us quasi-newbies where to stay, what time to get in, and all that jazz. Every emotion possible surged through my body during that concert, from pure joy and excitement for the simple fact that I was actually there to nearly tears from his renditions of "Sometimes it Snows in April" and "Purple Rain." Definitely an experience I'll never EVER forget!

Who would have thought that my first prince concert would be at his HOUSE!!!! I'm just so very thankful for all of you, that I got the chance to come in for it, and for Prince for making it all possible!

And now I'm heading to bed...again :-p Maybe I'll be coherent by Tuesday!

So... just finished my review/fanboy love letter to Prince. This was the best concert/weekend experience I've ever had in my life..

Re: the tambourines, I know it's fun but they do get so annoying to others unless used really sparingly. I remember in Vegas, there was someone who had one and played it, off beat no less, through almost the whole show. Everyone around was getting totally annoyed and they're really distracting. I wish they wouldn't sell them until after the show.

Either way, was glad he said it. The constant ripping on Larry is so juvenile and unwarranted. I LOVE watching the man play bass. He is a living LEGEND. He also plays a vital role in Prince's life and spiritual evolution, so bravo Larry!
