The Paranormal, and Ghost in particular.

OK, since Halloween is coming up, i figured I'd start a thread about the Paranormal, and Ghosts in particular. So, what do you guys think about paranormal/supernatural phenomena ? Do you believe that some of it is real, or none of it is real? And what about personal experiences? Have you had(or personally know of anyone who has had), any paranormal experiences?

My personal focus will be on Ghost, but feel free to cover the whole paranormal/supernatural spectrum.

So...my personal belief is i do believe that paranormal phenomena does in fact exist. I'm not a believer in things like black eyed children, reptilians, and crop circles, though. As far as things like Sasquatch, the Mothman, the loch ness monster, and other cryptids? I definitely believe that its possible that they exist(or existed, and just recently went extinct). I'll admit though that the evidence is pretty weak as to their existence. However, when i lived in the pacific northwest, i had a few Native American friends who had a strong, strong belief in bigfoot. So who knows.

As for Ghost? I'm highly convinced that they are real. As far as what they are and how and why they manifest? Well, I'm not sure.
Most likely Ghosts are the spirits(the energy) of people who have died. I believe that they're all around us but not everyone is able to see or feel them, and not everyone who has died, becomes a Ghost. Somehow some of their energy is able to manifest itself into something that's visible to some of us who are still living.

There's a couple things that gives me pause about the validity of Ghosts, though. One is the religious aspect. And two is the ideal that a child's spirit is not somewhere else. You know, some place that's all consuming with joy and love. It like why would a child's spirit want(or need) to be in our(the living) space, when it can be in the presence of the creator? The other part is the ideal of heaven, hell, and purgatory. If there is a God, and the Bible is true(as far as heaven and hell), then how can there be human spirits roaming around? Why are they not in one place or the other? Me personally, i believe with all my heart that there is more to the story than what's in the bible. I've always felt that way.

Anyway...there's been threads on the Org before about Ghosts, and i posted some of the paranormal experiences that some of my family members have had. Two in particular were pretty trippy. Also there's a couple experiences that I've heard about(from family), but haven't been able to verify. One was about one of my cousins. Her mom committed suicide, and supposedly(years later) she(my cousin) was interacting with this Orb type mass... I'll probably post that later.

As far as me experiencing anything? About 7 or 8 years ago i caught something on audio tape that I'm still confused by and haven't been able to resolve or debunk. I'll post that(audio) as well.

Also, about 3 years ago, i was sitting in the living room of my former apartment(in San Jose CA) when something in my kitchen caught my attention. I looked over(the kitchen was to the left of me) and caught this big, opaque, circular mass that moved from left to right. It started at the stove(next to a wall on the left), and moved across the kitchen(maybe 8 feet), to where the back door was(also in the kitchen). It was just a split second. It startled me, so i got up and looked in the kitchen...and nothing. OK, so I'm thinking, what could it have been? And honestly i didn't(don't) have a clue. There was a window in the kitchen but i had never seen anything like that before(i had lived at the apartment for about 2 years, and it was on the 2nd floor). Now I'm not saying that it was something paranormal(who knows), but get this. About a week later i heard two of my neighbors talking. I went outside and the neighbor directly below me (ray) was telling my other neighbor(Mary) that one day he was in his bedroom(our apartments had the exact same layout) when he swore that he saw this big shadow go from the living room, to his roommate's bedroom. He said that he got up and checked but nobody was there. He said that it freaked him out so much that he took a knife back into his bedroom. eek Go figure...

Just recently my aunt said something that kinda hit home and got me really thinking. It was about a dream she had about my mother(her sister), who died about three years ago. I'll speak on that as well.

Damn, that's a lot of typing mad

Last thing. I found this cool thread about Ghosts. Its from the website allnurses.com. The thread is about the paranormal experiences that people in the medical profession(mainly nurses), have had while at work. Y'all should really check it out. It is crazy. omg omg

http://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/whats-your-best-108202-page1.html

Here's a taste:

we had two female patients that were always fighting, one of them became very sick and expired. about two hours later i walked by the other patients room and the lady that had expired was sitting in the chair beside the bed looking at the patient while she slept. i could not believe it!! i looked away and then looked back in the room and she was gone

I ain't afraid of no ghost. Sorry, couldn't resist smile

Personally, I don't believe in ghosts or the supernatural or any of that. I'm a big advocate for "I'll believe it when I see it" and I've never seen a ghost. Another reason why I don't believe in ghosts is that I think the idea that people have "souls' or"'spirits' is lunacy of the highest order. Also, if you were to properly investigate these so called ghost sightings I bet the only thing you'll find is a superstitious person with an active imagination. I can understand people wanting to believe in such things because it might make the passing of a loved one more bearable but for me, the whole thing is nonsense.

The likes of bigfoot and the loch Ness monster, on the other hand, I can imagine they might have existed at some point. I don't necessarily believe they did but there is some reality in it. Bigfoot might have been a deformed bear or something that was seen by someone who let his imagination run wild. The loch Ness monster could have been some type of fish thought extinct and again, humans let their imagination run away with them. UFO's could be all different types of things. Again, humans have a tendency to let their imagination take over. It makes for a better story. I do believe that there is intelligent life on other planets. It would be incredibly arrogant to think that of all the planets in the universe, and there are more of them than there are numbers, that this is the only one with intelligent life and that the human race, of all things, is the most advanced beings in the universe. But having said that, I highly doubt any alien is going to come here. They probably don't even know we exist. Some may not even believe there is life outside their own planet or solar system.

In summary, ghosts, no. Mythical creatures like nessy and bigfoot, probably but there's a catch. Aliens, definitely but they don't give a fuck about us so we'll never meet them.

i believe there is much more to our world than we can necessarily perceive with five senses. so i leave plenty of room for the supernatura, not only because of my own personal experiences but because of those of my immediate family whom i trust.

Even though my beliefs are somewhat different than yours, i DO understand where you're coming from. A big thanks for your input.

A couple things i do want to say though.

I think its absolutely necessary to be skeptical of anyone who claims to have seen a ghost(or claims to have had any paranormal experience). The issue i have with some skeptics(not referring to you) though, is their assumption that everyone who claims to have had a paranormal experience, is either crazy, is lying, or is misinterpreting some mundane occurrence. To me that's just as bad as someone who sees ghosts in specks of disturbed dust(so called orbs ). I'll admit that in the paranormal world, there are people who do have overly active imaginations or who are total frauds. However, there are many seemingly credible people, from all walks of life, who claim to have experienced things that can't easily be explained. We're talking about doctors, nurses, police officers, politicians, actors, etc. And taking into consideration the hundreds of thousands of everyday citizens(both young and old) who also have experienced things? Well, just because of the sheer numbers, i think we as humans should be interested in what this phenomena could be. For all we know it could be some unknown disease or something in the air or the water. lol Seriously though, i think there are credible people out there who have experienced some really incredible things. People who have seen human(and non human) figures materialize out of nowhere, and have actually interacted with those same entities... IDK, there's a lot to be learned about our existence, and i think it would be a shame for us humans to disregard the experiences of millions of people.

Anyway, in my original post, i mentioned that one of my aunts had a dream about my mom(her sister) who died a little over three years ago. In this dream my mom made one statement to my aunt. In a minute I'll say what that statement was. First though, i gotta give a little back story.

So back in 2013 my mom got into a car accident(she was the passenger). My mom and her co-worker were headed to work when this guy t-boned the car that they were in. And as a result, my mom had to have neck surgery(had the surgery about a month after the accident). The surgery was on a Monday, and around noon Friday she went into cardiac arrest, and died(while still at the hospital). OK, so we felt that the hospital was negligent in the care that they gave my mother, so we filed a lawsuit. And as some of you know, lawsuits can go on for years. So, after the initial legal documents, interrogatories, etc, were filed.Things got quiet. I knew it would take time so i gave the lawyer the space to do what she needed to do...

So about 9 months go by, and fast forward to about two months ago. I get a deposition time and date notice. I knew it was eventually coming, and i dreaded it. The reason i dreaded it is because it forces me to relive everything that led up to my mother's death. The accident, the surgery, the hospital stay, the last words she said to me(really sad stuff), the DAY that she died, the past, etc. Its tough to have to relive all that stuff. I've tried not to think about it. I don't even have pictures on my walls, of my mom. So... i get into this depression. For days on end, all i really think about is my mom. Specifically the conversations that, within the last few years of her life, we used to have. And even more specific, conversations about her desperately wanting to move away from the city that she was living in(a hot, depressing, boring ass city in Central California). At that time i was living in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the time of her death, my mom was in the early planning stages of moving back to the Bay Area(we lived there when i was a kid). My mom used to come visit me and she loved it. She would have fun visiting, but she also would voice her regrets. She regretted that she left the Bay Area for hell hole city(my description). Sigh, and we talked about that quite a bit....So all this stuff is going through my mind. I'm grieving all over again. And I'm filled with all this guilt and remorse.

So(sorry about all the so's) cool in the midst of all this emotional turmoil, my cousin calls me. He says to me, Joey, my mom told me to tell you that she had a dream about your mom. She said that your mom came to her and said, "****** !(his mom's name)...I FOUND MY HOME !". cry

I really don't know. sad Maybe(or maybe not) there was something supernatural behind my aunt's dream. My grandmother had a lot of kids and my aunt and my mother were the two oldest. And the two closet, so maybe there was a certain bond between them. Another somewhat interesting thing about my aunt is she had(actually one of her kids had the experience) a bad experience with a Ouija board. She used to play with a Ouija board with her kids, and some bad stuff ended up happening. I posted the story on here a couple years ago.

Anyway, regardless if what my aunt said was paranormal or not. I will admit that it was comforting.

Also got to admit though, that the timing and the message were pretty trippy indeed.

Feel free to share you experiences(if you feel comfortable in doing so)as well. Also i really do recommend that y'all check out that link that i posted. There's some really amazing stories on that website. Nurses deal with death every day, and boy do they have some creepy stories to tell.

To me it's unfortunate when people don't distinguish between being skeptical and being dismissive and condesending. It's fine not to believe, but keep the judgement out of it please.

Just because a skeptic hasn't personally witnessed something does not mean it's a figment of the imagination. rolleyes

I was raised by a person with second sight, as they call it, so I know there are people who can perceive energies that other people cannot detect. They are quite different from those who have delusions and hallucinations. I have observed both.

My own personal woo-woo experience is limited to one visitation from an annointed one, (not saying who), and a few prophetic dreams. I have the capacity, as did my mother and her mother before her but I don't welcome it, so I don't get many encounters.

I'll be back to talk about the dreams after my appointment. biggrin

Couldn't agree more.
I have a very similar background, my Mum saw things from she was a child. She never talked about it much, didn't tell a lot of people & only spoke on it when I asked her. She never made a big deal out of it. Once, later in her life I witnessed it. She saw someone sitting next 2 me, an old crone, a Native American. I jumped clean across the room when she gently told me. There is much more 2 that story but I wouldn't know where 2 start.
I never saw anything & didn't want to, when I was young I asked her why she did & I didn't, she said she wasn't scared & I was so... I was very happy with that answer
lol

I did (/do) get very strong feelings occasionally about people & sometimes places. Mum was sensitive with me as a kid when it happened & 2 this day I've never been wrong about the people I got almost allergic reactions 2.

Old friends & family have witnessed it too many times 2 not take notice when I occasionally warn them about someone. Very often the person has done nothing 2 be suspect 2 others, in fact they've often been really liked.

One person when I was introduced & shook their hand, an indescribable cold energy went from their hand 2 mine & went down 2 my feet. I simultaneously saw in my minds eye a grey sludge/cloud (?) over their head. That was the first time an image came with a feeling (I draw & often think in images). I was quite shook up but managed 2 hide it. I told my friend after, I had 2, the person scared me, even though he was perfectly fine on the surface & everyone thought he was the bees knees...that person went on 2 be very evil 2 my friend.

My biggest strength is in my dreams tho, they've warned me, shown me things I've no business seeing etc. As I've got older I have researched it as much as poss - the psyche, archetypes, the unconscious, DNA ancestral memories, symbolism, shamanism, ancient history etc etc etc. What some automatically dismiss as woo-woo is being confirmed by science all the time now. I don't jump at shadows, I count out all probable causes b4 I jump 2 a spiritual one. I have a friend who loves all the paranormal shows etc, that's not my bag, you'd think I was the skeptic when we talk.

It took me a long time 2 be able 2 confidently say these things. I went thru a lot, but now I know without a doubt where my strength lies.
When nature, my dreams, intuition etc etc etc speak 2 me I do not disrespect it.
It's never failed me, never. I've no desire 2 convince anyone who thinks I'm koo-koo, that's their choice.

That is exactly how I feel. We don't talk about it much outside of the family either, but since Joey asked.....

I have two family members that I had a similar dream about the same year, involving them being assaulted. The first person never bothered to return my phone calls so I could warn them and ended up getting carjacked, beaten, robbed, stripped naked, thrown in the water and shot at.

A few months later I had a similar dream about another family member. This person returned my phone calls and I told them what I saw in the dream. About a week later as he was walking home from work, he noticed two guys coming toward him. He got spooked, and started running. They chased him, but he managed to outrun them and luckily he lived in a gated complex, so they couldn't follow him to his apt.

There is no way for me prove to anybody else that I actually had those dreams so if they have doubt, then so be it.

The same with my grandmother, whenever she dreamt about fish it meant that some female close to her was pregnant. Not any random acquaintance, but a close, blood relative. It never once failed that I know of. All she had to do was mention fish and female realtives would scatter. lol She also dreamed numbers and won every time she played. I remember when she passed. The next night she came to mom and gave her a number, but she ignored it. Number came out that night.

My mom was like you. She could meet somebody once, know they were evil to the core and be proven right shortly thereafter. She also had visions and could astral project. Before I was born, shortly after she had my brother, she was lying down at my grandmother's house, when some part of her left the living room sofa to summon grandmother from the kitchen. eek When my grandmother went to see what mom wanted, she wasn't conscious.

When they got mom to the hospital it turned out that she was bleeding internally. My mom remembers looking back and seeing herself lying on the sofa and my grandmother remembers mom coming to her for help, except she was unconscious....go figure.

Mom also taught me how to see auras. cool People don't have to believe but they shouldn't judge either.

No you can't. What you can show is certain supposed energy patterns with a certain type of camera that people define as supernatural energy. That is not specific proof of a ghost though. no no no!

No you can't. What you can show is certain supposed energy patterns with a certain type of camera that people define as supernatural energy. That is not specific proof of a ghost though. no no no!

I disagree with EVERYTHING in you statement

skeptic magazine deals with that all the time. No actual ghost ever proven.

Proving a ghost presence would be like me trying to prove the dream I had. What equipment would you use to detect it???? There isn't any.

nowadays on most of the ghost shows they use funky little hand held electronic meters to measure changes and fluctuations in radiant energy; static generating 'talk boxes' to allow ghostly voices to come through; ghost boxes which record a huge spectrum of inaudible (to the human ear) sounds that, when replayed may have recorded a ghostly voice; and use super sensitive gauges to see when the room temperature grows colder.

now i'm not saying they actually work, but it's an infant science..

I never saw anything & didn't want to, when I was young I asked her why she did & I didn't, she said she wasn't scared & I was so... I was very happy with that answer lol I did (/do) get very strong feelings occasionally about people & sometimes places. I don't jump at shadows, I count out all probable causes b4 I jump 2 a spiritual one.

Mom also taught me how to see auras. cool People don't have to believe but they shouldn't judge either.

even worse, most children are being actively taught these things don't exist, so any child with talent is not encouraged to either use or refine his/her abilities.

i believe a number of people who have been diagnosed as mentally ill may actually have abilities western civilization refuses to recognize

I'll be back to talk about the dreams after my appointment. biggrin

Very interesting. Love the female relatives scattering when Grandmother mentioned fish
lol
Sounds like Mom projected her aura (or soul/spirit- whatever term peep like) to her Mother when she needed help that time. There's something very special between a mother & her child.
I remember reading about some scientific study saying that pregnant women & their babies can share dreams. As quiet as it's kept there's many unanswered questions regarding conception, gestation & birth.
I also saw something recently about scientists proving 'dream telepathy' (as the called it) can take place between people.

I remember an African shaman spoke on that once. He was horrified by the insane asylums in the west.
