My heart goes out to people who don't have a connection with their mothers because a relationship with the one person in the whole world who carried you around inside of them for nine months is like no other. My mom was a fan too. So are my kids and my ex. Not crazy, die hard like me though.

But my mom sort of had something to do with my meeting Prince in Vegas in 2006. We were shopping at whole foods about one month before my trip and I saw a beautiful greeting card. I showed it to mom because it reminded me of The Rainbow Children for some reason. She told me to buy the card and give it to him.

I laughed and told her I was going to see Prince perform, not literally "see" him. She said, "you might, you never know."

I took the card with me to Vegas.

I ended up giving the card to Trevor at the sound check. I saw him give it to Prince and thought that was the end of it. Ten minutes later Prince came over to where we were standing and spoke to me and three other org members that I was hanging with that night. biggrin

Looking back I am so thankful that I had the chance to tell him in person how much he meant to me. The funny thing is that for about six months before I met Prince I dreamed about him every week. After we met I rarely dream about him.

This is the card I gave him....I bought two and kept one for myself because it was such a beautiful card. I don't have to tell you how much it means to me now.

That's beautiful! All of it. She was right! You never know. And look at Princey Pooh coming over! heart mushy

When I was younger I was typically hard headed but I learned to listen to my mother. She was very sensitive to vibrations and energy. Her intuition was very sharp and she was seldom wrong.

You picked exactly the right kind of card and message that resonated with Prince. cool

It was pretty easy because I thought of him as soon as I saw it.

It is very difficult to explain to people how deeply just about everything Prince did and said resonated with me. His spirit stirs my soul and his visionary artistry fires my imagination. From the beginning I always had the feeling that I've known him for thousands of years. He was my hero and I'm grateful that I was able to tell him how precious he was to me. cool

You are totally right(embolden part). I know first hand what its like not having the best relationship with a parent. And a mother in particular. When i was a teenager, and young adult, me and my mother weren't on the best of terms. We loved each other dearly but there was baggage in both of our past's. And by me being young and immature, i dealt with those issues in a real immature way.

The wonderful thing though is that when she passed away, we were on excellent terms and had been that way for many, many, many years. It was all good. Still though, i sometimes do think about(and regret) the time that was wasted. If i only knew how soon she would be gone...

So yes, my heart also goes out to people who don't have a connection with their parents. And especially their mothers. There's a lot wounded people out there because of that fact.

Also i was thinking about the posts that touched on the ideal that certain abilities can be passed down between a mother and a child, and that ancestral memories can possibly be passed down as well. That and the other things that were mentioned (shared dreams between a unborn child and its mother, etc) really amaze me. Since I'm a man, and also not having any kids, i can really only imagine the kind of bonds that develop, in utero, between a mother and a child. The "supernatural" aspect of carrying a child should definitely be researcher further.

Anyway, all this got me thinking about this episode of a paranormal TV show called Paranormal Witness. The episode was about a women and her getting into a auto accident with her son, and the lengths she(or her spirit) went through to save him. I like the episode because it has a lot of documentation. I think its worth checking out.

Excellent story about you Prince encounter. It really got to me.

The episode that i mentioned, is the first one. Haunted Highway. The YouTube video is of so so quality so i added a link to the better quality dailymotion one. I tried to embed it but it didn't work.

Thanks Joey, it must be a great comfort to you that you and mom grew close before she passed... hug My mom and I didn't always see eye to eye but we were best friends nonetheless. She was a remarkable woman who was a civil rights activist for most of her adult life among other things. I'm very proud of her and thankful for how she molded me....I'm very much my mother's daughter.

Ancestral memory is something I definitely want to understand better, particularly as it may apply to those of us who lack a cultural, geographical and familial connection to our African ancestors for the most part.

I'm going to check the video out now.

Yeah, it took a while but things turned out pretty great between me and my mother. Can't wait to see her again.

Excellent about your mother ! For her to have been a civil rights activist she had to have a caring personality. I have much respect for people who are willing to fight for others, and who give of themselves.

Also, like you, I'm definitely my mother's child. hug

Ok, so when i made my OP, i mentioned that i caught something on tape that confused me as to what it could be. I caught this voice on tape that appears to be whispering something. And i don't know where that voice came from.

So here's the story...

About 9 years ago i lived at a this apartment complex that was owned by this guy who was somewhat of a slumlord and who also didn't like to return security deposits. Regardless of the move out condition, dude would give people hell come deposit time. My thing though, is i take pride in taking care of my domicile and when its time to move out, i expect the return of my security deposit. In every apartment that I've lived in, I've gotten my security deposit back. And i expected it from that place as well.

Let me fast forward a bit.

So some issues developed with my apartment, and the owner wasn't attentive to them, so i decided to move. Before i moved though, i put in work requests to fix the problems(mainly leaks), but maintenance wouldn't show up. So i go to the on site manager to find out what the problem was, and i find out that the maintenance guy would take work orders and say that he did the work but he actually didn't(or did it half assed). Basically he would get the money and then spend it on drugs. So the manager is telling me all this stuff about how the owner was cheep, greedy, etc and I'm just listening. And a few weeks later i meet with the owner to verify some things and he's acting like the slumlord that he was. He was acting like it was his legal right to keep my security deposit regardless of the condition of the apartment....And i'm like, the hell it is ! I was really ready to put hands on dude.

So, at that point in time my financial situation wasn't all that great(and still isn't, lol), and since i was in the process of moving to a area with a way higher cost of living than the city that i was in, I really, really needed my security deposit back(keep that in mind).

Anyway, the owner's attitude somewhat shook me, so i come up with this bright ideal. I decide to try to get certain people to admit certain things on tape(i know, stupid), in case i have to take the owner to small claims court... And that's where the disembodied voice comes in.

OK so I'm not going to get into the details as to where this recording took place(outside or inside). Its only a few seconds, so really no biggie.

In this audio there's two people talking(actually three but...). The male voice is mine and the other voice is the person who was with me. First you will hear her make a comment and then directly after i ask "how big are the two bedrooms?", you will then hear a voice that whispers what sounds like two words. Then you will hear the female respond to my question.

After you hear it I'll tell y'all what i and people who have really listened to it, thinks it says.

Unfortunately there's quite a bit of hiss in the audio. I tried to clean it up as best as i could. Also there's a couple different parts. There's a longer part(looped twice) then a part where i tried to reduce mine and my friends voice(looped twice) then a few parts where i slowed down the speed, and then a few parts where i just looped the whispering voice.

The video is only 42 seconds, so its quick.

Now i don't know who or what made that whisper. For over 30 years i been messing around with audio recording, sounds etc, and I've NEVER come across an anomaly like the one that's on that tape. I have had situations where i recorded something(on tape) at a very high level and if i recorded over that with something that was at a much lower level, the higher recorded audio would sometimes bleed through, but that only ever happened once or twice. And once again, the tape had never been used before. I've also had situations where the actuall tape got twisted around but that produces a backwards sound, and it is noticeable. The recorder that was used to record the audio didn't have a radio on it, and the cassette tape had never been opened or used till that day.

Also, someone mentioned that it could possibly be me taking a breath and having it sound phonetic. I highly doubt that. In the longer tape there's a couple times where you can hear me breathing but guess what it sounds like....?? A person breathing

For over 8 years i been trying to determine what could have caused that whisper.

I don't know what could have caused it but I'm pretty sure i know what didn't.

Anyway, so i couldnt really make out what was said so about 5 years ago i posted the audio on the Ghost Hunters website. One person listened to it and this is what he though it said...They'll pay.... eek As in they will pay. And you know, when you really listen to it, it does sound like is saying they'll pay.

Just think of the reason why i was recording to begin with....I was really(gotta stress that) worried that the owner wasn't going to give me back my 1000 bucks.

IDK man, crazy if it all was just a coincidence.... disbelief

So did the slumlord ever pay? I gotta know.... eek

Actually he did but not until around 45 days after i moved out. He was giving me the run around until i told him that i was getting ready to sue him in small claims court. He knew that he would have lost. California law is such that a landlord, owner etc, has to return the full deposit, or what's left of it(with a itemized statement of repair costs), within 21 days of move out. If they don't, they've basically already lost the case(if it ends up in court).

As for the voice...?? Trippy. It's frustrating as well though. I really don't have a answer as to why a voice that wasn't from me or my friend, is on that tape. I can't say if it is otherworldly or not, but i do know that its definitely bizarre.

A sizable number of people have claimed to have caught disembodied voices on audio, so i believe its definitely possible to do so.

I lived at that apartment complex for a little over a year and sometimes i would get a weird feeling being in my apartment. Honestly a couple times it felt as if someone had slapped me when i was in bed. Like i would be asleep and it would feel as if someone had smacked me in the face. The feeling of being slapped would wake me up. It only happened at that apartment. Most likely though, it was nothing.

Anyway i was just checking out a episode of Celebrity Ghost Story that featured Jermaine Jackson. It's pretty good. Over the years I've watched a lot of interesting documentaries, TV shows etc, on(allegedly) paranormal phenomena. Unfortunately though, most of it isn't on Youtube.

I have never watched any of the paranormal shows but I have read about some experiences and spoken to a few people who don't have a woo-woo bone in their bodies, so would not be inclined to make up things.

I remember waking up one night because it felt like somebody sat down on the bed. When I woke up I felt them get up, only no one was there. I have no idea what it was so I didn't even bother trying to explain it. lol

What a great thread for this time of year! I enjoyed reading everyone's posts and sharing their experiences. I have had some experiences that can't be explained away and so I tend to think they were of a paranormal type nature. However, I do try to remain skeptical of anything paranormal and look at all the physical evidence first before drawing the conclusion that it's unexplained or paranormal. I would like to share a few stories that have happened to me. They are real and they had such an impact on me that I will never forget them. This is long, but I hope they are worth the read.

Probably the very first strange occurrence that happened to me was when I was in high school. I had a long time boyfriend and always thought I'd marry him. We didn't ever get married, but he is still a big part of my life. Anyway, I used to stay over night at his house on occasion and sleep in his room. He lived with his mother and he had one older sister that lived there as well.

One night that I stayed there, I was having a very bad dream although the details of it were really quite simple. I was dreaming that I was in the dark and I was inside of something to where a lid was closing over me and shutting me in. In my dream, I was horrified and scared and screaming out. I was screaming out so forcefully that I heard myself physically screaming in terror though I was still dreaming. The lid closed and there was complete darkness and I was screaming at this total darkness. I couldn't see anything and I was trapped just screaming over and over. I vaguelly remember my boyfriend trying to shake me awake saying "Hey, hey, wake up! You're having a bad dream." I kind of snapped out of it and opened my eyes to see the shadowy darkness of his bedroom, but then I instantly went back to sleep.

In the morning, I didn't think much about the dream until my boyfriend's sister came into his room and woke us up. Right away she said to me, "What the hell was going on in here last night? You were screaming like crazy." Then I remembered the dream and how real it felt and the extreme terror and suffocating feeling I felt. I just said, "Yeah, I was having a bad dream I guess." She said, "Yeah, no kidding! Scared the shit out of me!" She left the room after a bit and didn't say much more about it.

After she left, I looked at my boyfriend and said, "I was screaming out loud, huh? I knew it. I could feel myself screaming out loud even though I was dreaming." And he said, "Yes, and it was scary as hell." He then said,"I tried to wake you up because you wouldn't stop screaming. What were you dreaming about? Do you remember?" So, I told him about my dream and that I was in the dark and inside of something with a lid closing over me putting me in complete darkness and I couldn't get out like I was in a coffin or something. As I was telling him, he got this strange look on his face and said, "Ok, you're freaking me out." And I said, "Why? What? What's wrong?" He kind of laughed nervously and said, "You're not going to like it." So then I starting getting upset and scared and I demanded, "What?! Just tell me." He said, "Well, what you're describing from your dream...there was a funeral in this house in the room just off my bedroom." I instantly had this sinking, sick feeling when he told me this. It felt eerie and spooky and I will never forget it.

Apparently, before they had moved into that house, whoever lived there before had held a funeral in the home. It was an old, old house and is now torn down. So, I was left to wonder if I had sensed something about that house that manifested in my dream? Or, a person who had passed on was trying to show me something about themselves? It could also be that my dream and the fact about the funeral had nothing to do with eachother. I don't know, but it scared the hell out of me and I still think about it to this day.

Another experience I had, and this was just a couple of years ago. A guy I knew who was just a friend wanted me to go out to dinner with him. He was a nice guy and I liked him as a friend, but I couldn't really see dating him as I wasn't interested in him that way. He was persistant, however, and I agreed to have dinner with him. I didn't see any harm in it as to me it was just two friends having dinner and if it came to light that he wanted more than being just friends, I would just set him straight.

We had dinner and it was a nice time. We talked and laughed alot and at the end of the evening he brought me home. He parked his vehicle and asked me if I'd like to go out to a movie with him next time. I said sure, though I didn't know if it would be a good idea because I felt he wanted to be more than friends. Anyway, I didn't go out with him again because I literally was too busy at the time. We remained in touch and he was always just a really nice, sweet, great guy to me.

Over a year later, I was at work and someone told me that he had passed away over the weekend. I was in complete shock and speechless at this news. I didn't understand why or how...he was a young guy and how could this just happen? He had a heart condition, from what I understand. I was so bothered by this and I was determined to be at his wake even though it made me extremely upset and filled with anxiety to even think about it. I did go to the wake and surprisingly, I wasn't overwhelmed with a dark sadness. I saw him and stood near him and said some words softly to him, I touched his arm before I walked away. The whole time I was there, the room had a strange happy, almost crackling electric feeling considering the sadness of the situation. There were people crying, but as I thought about him, I felt like he was happy and I felt he was very present in the room.

I stayed at the wake for quite a while talking with his mother and family as well as mutual friends. I went home and was glad that I had went though I was still feeling a weight of sadness and disbelief. I did not go to the funeral, however, and I am regretful that I didn't.

The evening of the day of his funeral, I was at home working on my computer. I was working away and not really thinking about much of anything else except what I was working on. My computer is set up in my dining room area and the living room is just off the dining room. I was sitting in the dark in the dining room, but a tall floor lamp and a lamp on an end table lit up the living room. The TV was on as well so it wasn't complete silence. So, I'm working on something, typing away, when the light kind of dims just barely. It didn't distract me too much as sometimes there's power glitches. I continue working away when the light dims again. No biggie again, it didn't stop me from working and I thought nothing of it. Again the light dims, and the way it dimmed was not a barely there dim, but a deep, drawn out dim to where now I'm looking up going, "What the hell was that?"

I stopped what I was doing and looked over to my left at the lights in the living room. I waited to see if they both were dimming or what the hell was going on. I waiting and then, nothing happened. So, I go back to working and after a bit the light dims again...and what it was like is like a fluttering dimming effect. I stopped what I was doing again to look into the living room (the threshhold to the living room is only like 8 feet from where I'm sitting). I sit there waiting, and I'm anxious, yes, as I'm really starting to think something weird is going on here. Suddenly, the lamp on the end table flickers very subtley as I'm looking at it. My heart starts to pound. It was just that lamp and not both lights as I had originally thought. Then, it does it again. So, now I'm kind of freaked out and I stand up and start walking towards the living room. I'm a few feet from the lamp now and I stop and I'm just standing there staring at the lamp. Then, it suddenly starts flickering like crazy. THIS scared the shit out me and without hesitating I said outloud, "Ok, I see you. Stop it now, you're scaring me!" The lamp stopped flickering and my heart is racing and I put my hands over my ears and I'm seriously saying outloud, "If that's you, I see you now, but you're scaring me." I didn't even have to question my reactions to what was going on, I just felt instantly that it was my friend trying to get my attention. I don't know why I would feel this as nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I'm sure I looked like a whacko standing there yelling at the lamp lol.

Electrical disturbances...I have heard of this phenomena happening to people after a loved one has passed on. I've heard of it, but never really believed it. I always thought that if it's really happening to other people, how come I have never experienced anything? When this thing happened to me with the lamp, I started to think there might be som truth to it. It felt real to me. When the lamp was subtley dimming, in hindsight, it felt to me as if something were gently trying to get my attention, but not scare the crap out of me. Now, when I went over to the lamp and stood right in front of it staring at it and it started rapidly flashing, it was as if the something knew it had my attention and was giving me confirmation that "Hey, I'm here! Look at me! I'm ok!" haha or something like that. I don't know. It sounds crazy, but I know what I experienced. I'd like to think it was my friend trying to tell me he is still out there and he's ok. Bless him. And if it was really him, I think that he would like me to share what happened with all of you. I wanted to mention too that in the aftermath, I have never had that lamp do anything like what it did that night ever again. It works perfectly and no glitches so, I have no explanation why it would have behaved so strangely.

Here's a more light-hearted story. It's not ghostly, but still strange and cool and paranormalish. I rarely talk to my parents on the phone, however, we do have a good relationship. They are very loving parents and kind, good-hearted people. They are very religious people and I am not, though this does not cause any conflict between us. I work full time and go to college as well, so time gets away from me and I could go months without talking to my parents and I do feel bad about this. My story involves one particular occasion that I hadn't talked to my mom for a good stretch of time.

One night, I had this short and very vivid dream. In my dream, I'm smelling apple pie and it smells so good; it makes my mouth water. And then I see the pie and then I'm eating it. It tastes so good. It is so real I can actually smell and taste it. That's all my dream was about. I wake up in the morning and I can still almost smell and taste that pie. I thought "Wow, what a weird and very real dream."

I forget about the dream and I'm going to work and doing my everyday stuff, and then two days later my mom calls me out of the blue. She says I need to call more often and she's just wondering what I'm up to etc. I ask her what she's doing and this is what she says: "Well, we went to the orchard and got all these fresh apples. I was thinking that I wish you would come home and bake us a homemade apple pie. Doesn't that sound good? Remember when you used to bake homemade pies all the time?" As she's talking, my dream comes back to me in an instant. Oh my god, I'm thinking. My dream! She's still talking away, and I'm just like speechless because I'm thinking about my dream. Finally, I said, "Mom, I had this dream two nights ago..." and I tell her about it and point out that now she's calling me all of the sudden and talking about apples and baking pies like out of nowhere, etc. She's silent now and thinking about what I said. She then says that it's just a coincidence and she doesn't believe in paranormal type occurrences. She's very against this because of her religious beliefs. Ok, I understand this and respect her thoughts on it, but I tell her that I believe there's a connection as it's just too freakishly coincidental.

Those are just a few things that I have experienced. Thanks for reading if you got through the whole thing (it was long). I know it's hard to believe in someone else's experiences, you almost have to experience it for yourself to really believe. I do not drink or do drugs and I think I'm sane lol. I think that there are some things out there we can't explain away. I don't know with absolute certainty if my experiences were of a ghostly nature, but they have me seriously keeping my mind open. I just know what I saw and felt as they were happening...feelings of incredible fear, scared, haunted, in awe, thinking "wow, this really does happen", etc.

See, occurrences like what you had, just reaffirms my belief that we don't have all the answers to this existence. When a person experiences things that are out of the ordinary, like what you did, it can affect the person in a deep and personal way. You know what happened to you and no one can take those feelings about that experience, away from you. Millions upon millions of people have have similar experiences as yours, mine etc, and we are not all liars or are imagining things...

Anyway, thanks for sharing your encounter. I only had a second to comment on your post. Tomorrow I'll comment further. The dream aspect of your experiences, got me thinking of a couple dreams that i had that really stuck with me. I'll comment on those, as well.

That was a good post. thumbs up!

I have no idea what it was so I didn't even bother trying to explain it. lol

Interesting that you mentioned that. On the day that i read your post, i had just finished reading about this person who had a similar experience as yours. The person said that they were just laying in bed when they heard a loud bang right next to their ear. They then said that it felt as if someone had sit on the bed, then fell onto the floor(heard another bang)...

Anyway, here's a couple links to a few paranormal TV shows that i think are pretty interesting. Once again though, i wish i could embed the better quality videos, instead of linking them.

I posted the poorer quality Youtube videos as previews. I figure that if the episode looks interesting, then y'all can check out the better quality linked ones.

There's a couple things that gives me pause about the validity of Ghosts, though. One is the religious aspect. And two is the ideal that a child's spirit is not somewhere else. You know, some place that's all consuming with joy and love. It like why would a child's spirit want(or need) to be in our(the living) space, when it can be in the presence of the creator? The other part is the ideal of heaven, hell, and purgatory. If there is a God, and the Bible is true(as far as heaven and hell), then how can there be human spirits roaming around? Why are they not in one place or the other? Me personally, i believe with all my heart that there is more to the story than what's in the bible. I've always felt that way.

Hey JoeyC...from your first post on this thread (above in bolded print)...I wanted to comment on this when I had more time. Religion and the bible causes a great deal of conflict for some people on whether or not they should believe in ghosts and the paranormal. As I mentioned in my post, I am not particularly religious so I have no boundaries on what I think I should or should not believe. I like science and facts, but when it comes to experiences I had, I have no science or facts to explain them. Some of my classes that I've taken in college have taught me further to keep my mind open as well as look at facts and how the universe works. I've written papers on creation vs. evolution as well as the mathematical probability of parallel universes. I am slightly critical of religions when they limit our growth and expansion of knowledge, which some do. I do feel like you that there is more to it than what is written in the bible and I hope none of that offends anyone. Some may disagree, but the bible appears to clearly show that ghosts and spirits do exist. The bible touches on a range of paranormal occurrences, mediumship, divination, etc.; many of the things that we now reject as impossible. Anyway, just wanted to say that I agree with your thoughts. Here's a good blog entry that I found from a pastor on the subject if you want to check it out sometime. It might help you with your questions. He calls himself the paranormal pastor biggrin and I liked his approach on the subject: http://theparanormalpasto...hosts.html

I watch this show sometimes. It's actually one of the more believable shows out there. I remember this episode! It was very eerie and the people surrounding it and what they experienced sounded very real.
