Gillian Anderson

ian Anderson may have earned Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Awards for her portrayal of Dana Scully in Fox’s sci-fi hit “The X-Files,” but she recently revealed that she had to fight to be paid the same as male co-star David Duchovny — during the show’s original run and for the hotly-anticipated revival, premiering Sunday.

.

Anderson confirmed to The Daily Beast that it took her three seasons before she ...e wage gap between her and co-star Duchovny during the show’s ’90s heyday, after growing tired of accepting less than “equal pay for equal work.”

.

According to The Daily Beast, the studio also “initially required Anderson to stand a few feet behind her male partner on camera, careful never to step side-by-side with him.”

.

“I can only imagine that at the beginning, they wanted me to be the sidekick,” Anderson told The Daily Beast. “Or that, somehow, maybe it was enough of a change just to see a woman having this kind of intellectual repartee with a man on camera, and surely the audience couldn’t deal with actually seeing them walk side by side!”

.

Although Anderson eventually received salary parity with Duchovny, she told The Hollywood Reporter she was once again offered “half” of what her male co-star was being courted with when she was first approached about Fox’s “X-Files” revival. (Sources told THR that the two actors ended up being paid the same amount for the event series.)

.

“I’m surprised that more [interviewers] haven’t brought that up because it’s the truth,” Anderson told The Daily Beast. “Especially in this climate of women talking about the reality of [unequal pay] in this business, I think it’s important that it gets heard and voiced. It was shocking to me, given all the work that I had done in the past to get us to be paid fairly. I worked really hard toward that and finally got somewhere with it.”

.

She added, “Even in interviews in the last few years, people have said to me, ‘I can’t believe that happened, how did you feel about it, that is insane.’ And my response always was, ‘That was then, this is now.’ And then it happened again! I don’t even know what to say about it.”

.

Fox declined to comment on Anderson’s statements.

“The X-Files” revival premieres Sunday, Jan. 24 on Fox.

I liked it a lot.

Here's the thing though.

Critics are complaining about it not being good, but if you're a fan like me, Scully and Mulder could sit around reading the phone book and I'd be happy.

Damn internet age and all this over-analyzing!

Good enough episode, I thought! Although it's kind of ridiculous how fast Mulder has always switched from "it's aliens" to "it's actually not aliens, but men". lol But if the remaining episodes will be even better, I'm happy.

So who killed over 2,000 people in the middle of New York? The US government? It's a fictional TV show.

I sure loved the original "The X Files". Every week - a new conspiracy, or a new monster! Pretty much always proven to be fake, but I didn't care. Because who in their right mind could possibly believe in any of this stuff?

Then, a few years after "The X Files" ended its original run in 2002, I started reading the Politics and Religion forum.

I found out there really ARE people that believe in every fantasy "The X Files' presented. And a whole bunch of other moonbattery, too.

When I was watching "The X Files" last night, all I could see were certain Org posters. My mind kept saying, "Holey moley! This episode was written by some of my favorite Org posters! It's got aliens! It's got '9/11 was a false flag'! It's got the Illuminati! I'm sure we're going to soon see chem trails and modified attack baboons!"

I'll probably keep watching it but - and I mean no offense by this - it's going to be impossible for me to not tie whatever conspiracies they introduce to various threads we've had here over the years. It won't be as much fun watching that on TV. sad

The first episode was a really good start. I don't give two fucks about ''MOTW'' episodes. We've waited for 14 years for a decent ending to The X-Files. And the second moviewas just a shitty MOTW in 90 minute form. I'm glad they're going this route and can't wait to see what comes of it.

Glad you liked it, but I highly doubt they can bring this to a real, satisfying conclusion or even try it... It will probably remain open-ended.

I thought Duchovny was horrible last night. It was like he was mailing it in. I thought maybe it was just me, or the silly script, but I've seen comments all day long from others saying the same thing about the acting - and not just about Duchovny, but Gillian Anderson too. Even Skinner was so wooden and laconic that I had to see if Ben Affleck was now playing Skinner.

I hope tonight's episode is better. IIRC, the last episode in 2002 showed us Mulder and Scully's baby, who was magically making stuff fly through the air in his crib. That kid must be 13 or 14 now, so what's the deal? Did they forget about Superbaby? Is Superbaby the key to everything?

Or is this just a set-up for a tie-in episode featuring Superbaby and Supergirl?

BTW, I love "Supergirl". It's my favorite show right now.

Well, I think that's kind of how Mulder has been characterized over the years, but I agree that sometimes he overdoes it with the "underacting"... lol Can't say anything bad about Gillian Anderson, because I'm going to marry her one day, so...

.

I think that was the end of season 8 and/or beginning of season 9. By the finale back then, Scully had already given William away to protect him. But - SPOILER - apparently that will be addressed again in some way during the new episodes.

Superfan1984

There were parts of it I liked (the conspiracy stuff mostly_) but they are beating a dead horse. I loved the original X files- Loved it! But it went on for ever and a day and it got silly towards the end. I think they should just let it go. Of course, I watched last night and will watch tonight but..... Okay, so they mentioned a few times they had a kid, but, where is he? I guess the kid will be a big part of this new series but it was odd they way he was mentioned almost as if they were not his PARENTS- very impersonal the way he was brought up last night. Also, Scully seemed to be half asleep through the episode whereas Mulder was really giving it a go. The scoops on the girls stomach looked terribly fake! I thought they could have done a better job with that.... But Skinner looked fantastic! Oh, and, I'm glad Scully had red hair again, I was afraid she'd show up blonde.... Anyway, those are my thoughts....

Just watched it, really enjoyed it. I hate them calling it a reboot. If it was a reboot it would be a cast of young hot 20's something actors airing on the CW. As far as I'm concerned this is season 10 of the X-Files (they still use the same opening credits thumbs up! )
