Second episode was really good! really classic old school feel to what was going on. Quiped with some nasty imagery (the baby coming out of the stomach) and it was fun seeing the banter with Skinner in his office like the old series cool

Just watched it, really enjoyed it. I hate them calling it a reboot. If it was a reboot it would be a cast of young hot 20's something actors airing on the CW. As far as I'm concerned this is season 10 of the X-Files (they still use the same opening credits thumbs up! )

Did they really say that? Why would they say that if they keep using the same actors?

Was there anything about it to make you think it´s a reboot?

I don´t really get it.

I sure loved the original "The X Files". Every week - a new conspiracy, or a new monster! Pretty much always proven to be fake, but I didn't care. Because who in their right mind could possibly believe in any of this stuff?

Then, a few years after "The X Files" ended its original run in 2002, I started reading the Politics and Religion forum.

I found out there really ARE people that believe in every fantasy "The X Files' presented. And a whole bunch of other moonbattery, too.

When I was watching "The X Files" last night, all I could see were certain Org posters. My mind kept saying, "Holey moley! This episode was written by some of my favorite Org posters! It's got aliens! It's got '9/11 was a false flag'! It's got the Illuminati! I'm sure we're going to soon see chem trails and modified attack baboons!"

I'll probably keep watching it but - and I mean no offense by this - it's going to be impossible for me to not tie whatever conspiracies they introduce to various threads we've had here over the years. It won't be as much fun watching that on TV. sad

I loved the original the first time around, until it just got too stupid (happened for me round about the second or third series, can't exactly remember). You're right about the moonbattery. We were discussing this the other day - was the X-Files a product of it's times, or were it's times a product of the X-Files? It certainly started at a time when nonsense about area 51 and aliens was very common, much more common than now. Maybe there was a vicious circle of bullshit, where people would get hyped up by the X-Files, start to get into such nonsense which in turn fed their love of the X-Files? There's a research PhD in that, I'm sure.

I've not seen the new series, as it's not been shown here in Scotland yet. I've been rewatching the old ones in preparation, and will do so for as long as I can stand. Looking forward to the new ones, although the reviews aren't great and people I know who've seen it are pretty scathing.

(Oh, and the galloping credulity on this site which you allude to is the main reason I took a couple of months away from this place recently).

That's the way it should be.

People who want a different X-Files don't want X-Files.

I felt the same way about "Arrested Development". I read all about this disappointment from all these sources yet when I finally saw the new season I couldn't understand where all the criticism came from.

My suggestion; Try not binge watching an entire series in one weekend. Maybe then you'll get a feel of how a show is. I doubt many detractors of these series were ever initial fans to begin with.

agree. i think people are expecting to feel that same old rush of "wow!" they felt when they watched the first season. thing is, we've all changed. we're more blase about the show so it would have to give us an eleven out of ten to thrill people

I doubt it was a coincident. I mean everything shouts out Kolchak. I know Darren McGavin appeared on the X-Files a couple of time as the character of Arthur Dales. I thought it was such a waisted opprotunity not to have Darren McGavin play Kolchak on the X-Files. You could have it where Mulder could have investigated one of Kolchak old cases and have them team up.

You should see if your cable provider has On Demand channels. That's how I watched the X-Files premiere after the football postgame show screwed up my DVR which only recorded half of the show.

And I'm like you in that I really don't like watching TV shows and movies on my computer or even worse, on my phone so now I stream online content straight to my TV. There are various ways to do this. It's great.

Buy yourself an Amazon Fire, Raspberry Pi, or ODROID install Kodi and you can watch X-Files in bed with butter popcorn any anytime you want to.

It went down hill when the Mulder and Scully were gone and it was Doggit and Reyes (should have went off the air). Creator Chris Carter try to use humour in some episodes and it failed miserably every time. So far the new episodes feel like the old X-Files.

I loved last nights episode, but I think it was just that little bit too much straight comedy... Could have been a little darker. And, WAY too little Scully!

Interesting though, that judging by comments online, quite a few viewers were disappointed, simply by the tone of the episode. Guess they never liked something like "Bad Blood" either.

Loved the Were-Monster.

Hystercal, quirky, and a top 5 comedy x-file epsiode for me. Agreed we coulda had more Scully, but that dream sex scene sequence was fabulous - Gillian is HOT

there was a scene in last night's episode, where the 'monster' is lying on his stomach
on the forest floor, with the 2 humans falling to the ground beside it, that looked like
it was cut from the chris carter series pilot "The After".

in fact, the creature looked a bit like that creature too. it was a bit too obvious for it
not to be a humorous wink.

i've just watched the first 3 new episodes of The X-Files (i was planning on saving up

the entire new season and binge watching but couldn't hold out any longer) and i'm
very happy with these episodes so far.

i was so affraid that it would not be anything like it was in the past, but apart from a

few weird jumps or 'hard edits' in the story, it's been great. it feels so farmiliar, i love
it.

the were-monster episode was straight up classic goofy x-files. like the one with Luke

Wilson as the buck-toothed sherrif falloff

i'm still hoping that after The X-files gets perhaps finally a bit of a decent ending, chris

carter picks up "The After" again. that Pilot is so cool, i really wanted more after that.

i'm finally watching episode 3 now and this stuff is hysterical!!!!! falloff the twist is too funny!

.

imo this season 10 is stronger and funnier than the old X-Files. overall, season 10 is great. i love the elements of scully being the out-there one this time around and mulder being down to earth. i love that their characters have matured and have normal human doubts.
