Ugh, I feel like that every time my landline rings and some heavily accented loser tries to convince me that Microsoft wants to fix my computer or some PBA member is begging for donations. rolleyes

Sometimes I hang up in their faces or tell them to f--k off. Everybody that I want to talk to has my cell #. lol

This is why my sister says she doesn't need a landline. It turned into calls mainly for commercial harrassment!

LOL - My brother has a funny thing that he says about answering the phone. He says that you should say, "What?!", when you answer the phone. I wouldn't do that to somebody I didn't know; it would have to be a close friend or family member.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Had a friend answer the phone once with, "Hello? Who is this? What do you want?" and it sounded very aggressive. There was enough time between each question for me to answer his questions and then suddenly, "I don't have time for this." And it sounded like he hung up. Found out later that a friend of his had gotten ahold of his phone and re-recorded his voice mail. His grandma was extremely upset with him, because she thought she had gotten ahold of him too and he was being rude to her and she had raised him better than that. He kept trying to talk with me the next day at work, and I kept giving him the cold shoulder. Finally, I told him what was wrong after he asked for the 100th time that night and he told me what had happened. Talked with his grandma, too, and she said that she was still angry with him. I've always kept that in mind when I answer the phone, even when I'm in a pissy mood, because while it was funny to his other friend, for his grandma and myself, the attitude in the voice mail really hurt.

A friend used to do that to me whenever I called as a joke because he loved my reactions, I called him one day and that time I wasn't in the mood for obnoxiousness & when he did that I said in a very calm & stern voice that its not cute or funny, and he better quit doing that if he doesn't want his pearly white teeth knocked the f*ck out biggrin

I was aggressive too. Needless to say, he stopped doing that since then, at least to me to my knowledge.

My roommate in New York got very upset with me, because I always answered the phone by stating my name.

That is normal in Holland, you say your name, so the caller knows who he/she is talking to.

American roommate thought I was very inconsiderate and accused me of being egoistic and rude to answer the phone with my name.

I tried to change it, but I didn't succeed very well. It was a habit that was very hard to change. To me it felt impolite to not introduce myself first, but just say "hello".

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I always answer my work phone with "This is ..." so the person calling knows they've reached me. My personal phone, I answer with "Hello?" and really, why do we answer the phone with the "hello" as a question? With the advent of caller ID, we usually know who is calling. If it's a close friend I'll answer it, "Hi *insert name here*!" and they find that off-putting because they aren't expecting someone to answer the phone actually using their name, and expect to be the one to say, "Hi Priss! It's me." Hmm, now that I think about it, phones and phone etiquette is weird.
