Are you bummed we won't be seeing more of him, this season at least?

(Due to production decisions, after episode 2, Fear the Walking Dead moved from filming in Los Angeles to filming in Vancouver. Unfortunately, this means that we might not get to see actor Lincoln Castellanos again)

Then yes I'm bummed, because he's someone I'd like to root for. He obviously needs protecting but he would bring a lot to any group on surviving.

He´s one of my favorite characters so far. Too bad we won´t get to see him for a while. Seems like a smart kid who knows what to do during an apocalypse, and he also wasn´t afraid to help Madison when she was attacked by her zombiefied colleague.

Really? To me he was the all too cliched pimple faced chubby nerd we have seen....oh, I'd say...a bazillion times already. It's like they added him to be some kind of the narrator so we (they?) could understand what was going on or something. He had all this knowledge but was unable to deal with the first infected he meets. He should have died.

How did he get into that locked up school anyway?

The level of non-communication gets crazier the more you think about it. Okay, maybe they don't know he'll turn into a walker, but it's obvious they were suspicious. And hey Matt why not fill in some holes and tell them what happened to you.

Yeah, it's hard to comprehend in the era of social media when people text practically every act of their life, suddenly the weird stuff starts happening nobody can talk.

Totally agree with you about the cliched pimple faced nerd part, it was a bit too stereotypical but I liked that he brought a little bit of that teenage conspiracy theorist element into it, and even though I found him very annoying at first, I started to like him in the second episode.

He may have struggled with that zombie but ,for some chubby nerd he had the courage to at least try something when Madison was attacked. Unlike the reverend or other rather passive characters in TWD. Not bad for a chubby little teenage nerd.

I wonder how his underground knowledge would have come into play if he had stayed on board for a while, and how he would have developed as a character.

The lack of communication in this show is mind boggling. OK, we get it, everybody is under shock, but still...

Especially Madison not telling her daughter what´s going on is very irresponsible considering the situation they´re in.

I was a bit uncertain about that part about him probably coming back, and him not being there during the Vancouver shoot. From what I know, Toronto is often used as a cheaper substitute in movies that take place in NYC due to a somewhat similar look and cheaper cost of shooting there but I didn´t know that Vancouver would be good (or, cheaper) place to shoot a show that is supposed to take place in L.A.

Or maybe they won´t even pretend to be in L.A and the Vancouver episodes are meant to take place at some place other than L.A.

I actually liked the fact that this show is being shot in L.A. and that it also takes place in L.A.

So is Vancouver really reminiscent enough of L.A. to take the production there?

Compare this show to War of the Worlds. When Tom Cruise's character gets back home to his kids after seeing the first alien ship wreak havoc. He's in an utter state of shock, but trying to hold it together. You can see him processing what he just saw, but also trying to plan a way out. The kids are hystercal and terrified because they can see the fear on his face.

Seriously, I'm thinking this show is written either by a sociopath or a poor writer.

I know a lot of tv shows are shot in Canada, possible a lot in Vancouver, so I'd say yes it favors various US cities. I don't think people really notice things like for California there would be a lot of Santa Fe building and housing designs, unless that's popular in Canada, but for high-rises and modern buildings one does look pretty much like another. Probably less litter in Canada.

I once heard a director say that Toronto has less litter than NYC, and that it´s a problem when you shoot there, pretending that the movie is actually taking place in NYC instead of Toronto.

How crazy, I was going to use War of The Worlds as an example of a movie I totally connected with emotionally because of the writing/acting.

Here's a perfect scene. The kids are hysterical. The father and son are both trying to figure out what is going on. It boggle my mind that mind that the writers have completely missed this element.

There were two other scenes that caught my attention from the pilot episode.

When the son shows his mother the dead body of the drug dealer he just admitted to killing. The mothers reaction is to figure out how to cover it up. Your son just killed someone and you just saw the body!!! Where's the grief, the disbelief, or any kind of emotional reaction?

There's another scene with the daughter and her friends at school watching the video of the rising dead being shot by police. As they stare emotionless at the video one of the girls says "Boom. Kill shot." Who writes this stuff? I swear a sociopath must be writing this show. The teacher would probably be discussing the events with her students in an attempt to ease their fears. That's what happened in my school when the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up.

Another great scene.
Especially since FTWD is a short few episodes the intensity should be off the charts.

Maybe they are trying to show how detached people are, in thinking the world has things that happen but it will all go back to normal.
I remember there were people like that in the States the day of and days after 911
I specifically remember interviews of people in different states on how they felt or thought about what just happened. And of all places there was a girl in LA that they were interviewing 1/2 on her cell phone and her reply was that she had a lot to do that day and she had a hair appointment

Some people shock I guess causes them to go into denial.
But I think on this show the urgency could be to a greater degree, more worried discussion.
I think the scene where all the teachers are huddled watching the video of the cops shooting the walker gave a bit of it. But then we flash to the 3 students watching it. the girl on the left had good reaction. She had a look of fear and sadness at what she was seeing the middle girl-denial the girl on the right sociopath

I will say that as fucked up as that scene was to me personally, I don't think that response was too far off reality. There does seem to be a disconnect with many teens when it comes to violence on video. It's almost looked at as entertainment, it's real, but not real to them. That's why they share videos of fights, of crimes, etc...there is no realization of what they are really seeing. Of course, not all young people, thankfully...but couple that mentality with typical, "I'm so hardcore" bravado and you get a horrible comment like that.

Again though, I think it was a lost opportunity. Friend says it, daughter could have responded with disgust...or even better not respond that way, because she has that same disconnect. But when it all goes to shit in person and suddenly is very real right in front of her, you see the change, you see the realization, she's utterly terrified....but, based on the writing so far, I can't see that happening. The daughter just had the same vapid response we are seeing time and time again.

It is showing a lack of good writing, of good character development, and really, of good acting.

The first six-episode season of Fear The Walking Dead is set to debut August 23 with a 90-minute episode, as was announced at Comic-Con. The second season will premiere in 2016.

The L.A.-set Fear The Walking Dead centers on a blended and often broken family of schoolteachers in the early days of what would become the zombie apocalypse. Filmed in the City of Angels and Vancouver, the companion series takes place roughly during the four-week time period that The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes was unconscious in the hospital. While a backstory of sorts to the first season of the five-season-old blockbuster, AMC boss Charlie Collier on Friday made a point of calling Fear TWD a “stand-alone series.”

While TWD and FearTWD EPs Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, and Greg Nicotero were not in attendance, today’s panel for the upcoming spinoff saw EP David Alpert, who is also an EP on TWD, and EP and showrunner Dave Erickson onstage. The duo were joined for the last TCA panel of the week by co-EP/director Adam Davidson. Cast members Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Frank Dillane, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Lorenzo James Henrie and Mercedes Mason also were there, but Ruben Blades was not.

Before the panel started, two scenes from the third episode of S1 of Fear TWD were shown in the Beverly Hilton ballroom. Both clips depicted LA starting to fall apart with riots, power failures and rooming “inflected,” as Erickson calls them as the unnamed plague spread. “By the end of Season 1, we know the world has changed and it is the end of the world as we know it, but it not yet at the point where Rick woke up in Georgia,” the showrunner said about the pace of the new series. “We come to realize the world has changed, but our characters are still insulated from all of what has happened,” Erickson added. “Part of what they will see in Season 2 will be that.” The EP said that part of that next cycle will explore “how are things fractured for this family.” Noting a Season 3 hadn’t been ordered, Erickson said that would become more evident as the show progresses.

The showrunner also said that Fear TWD would explore and explain to some degree how the government, police and military respond to the outbreak and collapse of urban civilization — a topic lightly touched upon in the “mothership series,” as one cast member today called The Walking Dead. As he had said at SDCC on July 10, Erickson reiterated that there were no plans “right now” for a crossover with TWD. With a laugh, Albert teased that there may be a TWD Easter Egg in a future episode of Fear TWD – but gave no clues as to what that link would be or when.
