What TV Shows Has The Main Character Died? It seem's in a lot of dramas that ''threat'' of omg there going to the kill main character. It almost NEVER Happens.
The only 2 shows i know that where ballsy enough to do that this where Xena & Six Feet Under. Spoiler alert for those who have not seen SFU BUT pretty much everyone dies in that show if you have seen it. Which is like possibly my all time favorite ending for a show ever.
And The Sopranos... maybe counts.
Has there been any other show's where the main character has died on the last episode? Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Family patriarch James Evans was killed off in "Good Times", leaving behind his widow Florida (co-star Esther Rolle) and their 3 children to soldier on for the remaining seasons of the show.

mr. (foine-arsed) "michael pitt"
i so did not like his roll as James 'Jimmy' Darmody getting killed. i mean i really liked his acting skills in the series. he seems to be a great alpha type male. “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

This was done in one single take.
The actor who played Mr. Hooper had actually died.
The actors were not emotional capable of doing more than one take, so this was essentially filmed live.
The emotions displayed here are not acting--it's very real.
The thought they had an obligation to tell their audience (mostly children), what had happened to Mr. Hooper, and to be honest about it.

Six Feet Under is probably the only show that has ever made me cry, much less cry multiple times over different seasons.
I don't even recall a show I loved so dearly other than The Sopranos, which I also became really obsessed about. Of my top 5 favorite television shows ever, these 2 are right at the top.
SFU is the only time I've ever seen a main character die for good before the end of the show. Of course it showed everyone die in the finale, but we only experienced Nate's death in real time. And that creeping, slow, painful real time was so visceral!
Battlestar Galactica had Starbuck die, but she was then resurrected (and then retconned into being an angel). And of course, the spinoff Caprica's main character is just a hologram of a dead girl.
I guess Jadzia Dax isn't THE main character of DS9, but she was part of the main ensemble. I dunno if DS9 really has a main character so much as a set of VIPs.

Woot! yes Sopranos & SFU are very addicting shows. And while Sopranos had a good ending.
I feel Six Feet Under had THE perfect ending, i have never been so sad, yet so happy by a shows end. It is probbaly the only show watched where i felt absolutely nothing else needed to be said or concluded. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Totally agree. The writers were soooo in touch with that story. Everything was basically perfect about Six Feet Under, lol. I swear, this is making me wanna re-watch from season 1 on.

With regard to SFU, I agree totally with both of you. Nate's death (brilliantly scripted well before the conclusion of the series) did feel like a real death -- one you saw coming for a long time, but one you nevertheless weren't prepared for.
And that finale was downright high art. That 10-minute montage perfectly captured much of what death has come to represent for us -- a dreaded end, a welcome liberation, a mode of hoped-for reunion with those long gone, insult to the injury of a miserable existence, or the final chapter of a picturesque adventure. It was just fantastic. I sat in tears for minutes after, and I honestly credit it somewhat with inspiring me to a new life course. [Edited 5/27/12 6:26am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

That stupid show awake. Isn't the lead character dead and jumping from reality to reality or something. I only saw two episodes. Never could really tell what was going on. Setting throughout the episode didn't help.

For the first couple of seasons of South Park, he died in every episode.
And in the show 8 Simple Rules For Datlng My Teenage Daughter (later shortened to just 8 Simple Rules), they had to write in the death of the patriarch of the show after John Ritter suddenly and unexpectedly died. The same thing happened years eariler in the show The Royal Family when Redd Foxx died from a heart attack.
Then there was ER when Dr. Mark Greene died from brain cancer. And in NYPD Blue, Jimmy Smits' character Booby Simone also died from cancer. And in the early 1990's, Valerie Harper starred in her own sitcom nameed Valerie, but after a bitter contract dispute in whiuch NBC refued to pay her more money per episode, they decided to kill off her character and rename the show The Hogan Family after the name of the family in the show.

I was going to use that one. I think all my suggestions would fit under that category, though.
Sopranos Lost Game of Thrones right now - I was actually shocked when Ned Stark was killed last season Boardwalk Empire, too - folks diein' all the time on that one, just not "THE lead" character Dexter - but again, not so much MAIN characters as they were "the guest star for the season", even though they were major, lead actors in their other work
I haven't watched a lot of the stuff mentioned, though.
There's one that I know was a big deal.... but I can't make my brain bring it forward right now...
