Depends on the source of the loot.

If it was some old ladie's life savings I'd def turn it back over 2 her/him.

If it was some multi-national company they would NEVER see that loot again.

If it was some crook who would add me 2 it's hit list, they would get in back anonymously.

So, assuming that a bag filled with cash doesn't have a label saying "If found, please return to Edna D. Crow as this is her life's savings"...

...You would either keep it ...or find some way of tracking down which crook lost some cash (cuz u know his name is NOT gonna be on the bag) so that you can give it back to them without them knowing who you are?

Two things...

The money could be traceable once you start spending it or if it's turned over to a bank for safe keeping.

In this day and age its likely that somebody would try to find you and do bad things in order to take the money if you placed that add. Even if you didn't include an amount. People suck.

It wouldn't be traceable if you spend it in the right neigborhoods. lol And with so much online shopping, I don't necessarily know if would be as traceable if you paid your credit cards off with it and used the money that way to go shopping. I'm on a fixed income working for a company that's really shaky right now. I may be willing to risk it. lol

Money is incredibly traceable these days. Once it hits a bank they just start following it backwards to the source. Keep it out of a bank and your chances improve. Spend it overseas and keep it out of bank and you'd actually have a pretty good chance of getting away with it. shhh lol

This has nothin' to do with nothin', but did you know that a pound of gold would cost $429,056.00 at today's price? I was just thinkin' about this the other day. Makes me want to own a pound of little gold bricks. Maybe like, 32 half ounce bricks. I'd sit and play with them like I did with blocks when I was a little kid. With a million dollars I could have 64 blocks. lol

It might be extraordinarily tempting, but I don't think there'd be much option but to turn it in.

I would do due diligence to find its owner. But I would not contact the police. They tend to take it and keep it by declaring it ill gotten gains. After 90 days if I could not with certainty find the owner I would keep it.

I would file it as misslonacious income and pay tax on it and put it in the bank.

crazy: i would NEVER turn it in to the police. If they did not find its owner they would keep it and call it illegal money. If someone lost that amount and if it was ledgimate that would make the news. So finding the owner is easy.

Not too long ago I found about $100 (I once found a $200 watch and did the same thing) in cash. I told the manager of the place that I had found something (his lying ass started to try to guess and INSISTED i give it to him) and that I would leave him my email and if the owner can ID I would give it back. I got a few emails for KEYS and a wallet and a gamesystem... then one said the lost $100... well it was not $100 it was about $100 so i eMAILed back and asked "was it a big face 100 or one of the old ones..." the reply was unsure... and i said "it is not yours."

If anyone would have said it was 90 something in change (as if they got change for a $100)

I think that is the best way to go. If i would have given it to the manager He could have just kept it. Sorry... not going to happnen.

Depends on the stock market, gold prices. And being doubloons like from a pirate ship would be worth a lot more.

Dubai is tax free and has no extradition agreement with the U.S. biggrin

There are a lot of small island countries that are tax free, but their banks are still connected to the U.S.
