Okay, Mac-people: Convince me to buy one.

It would be a laptop and I insist on an "Antiglare" display, so - as I understand it - that would limit my choices to 15-inch-or-greater MacBook Pro's?

I owned a Mac a long-ass time ago, so my experience with that desktop is really useless.

Aside from aesthetics and less worries about malware, why should I buy one of these over a Windows machine? hmmm

Alternatively, Windows-people, feel free to chime in and tell me why I should stick with a PC.

They're both all right. I work on both regularly, and I don't have all that dissimilar an experience.

Because of the way I work, I have certain "ticks" (or whatever you want to call them) that define how fast and efficiently I work. For example, I use alt+tab to switch windows constantly. On a Mac, you can't do that as well--you can only alt+tab through programs, not individual windows. So that's annoying.

Because of very minor, little things like that--plus the very major issue of pricing--I like PCs better still. I would have no reservations about buying a Mac, though.

Windows with the constant updates and virus nonsense drives me crazy. I use both, buy clearly prefer the Mac in every single way.

That is true, but isn't it just a matter of time before Macs have to deal with viruses in the same way? Or am I missing something?

But isn't that just because no one has decided to unleash one? (I'm sure people have tried to unleash minor ones that didn't "take," but even so, isn't it just a matter of time before someone really does one?)

I failed 2 see what that has 2 do with it's reliability.

Get a PC, there's no difference in quality between OSX and Windows 7, and you'll get way more for your money. You can turn updates off, and with Microsoft Security Essentials installed (which is free), you don't need to worry about viruses.

Whatever you do do not get a dell if you do get insurance, cheep components and break down a lot. We have three all purchased from different places and we have had numerous problems. Saying that the next day in home repair service is good.

Never had problems with Macbook pro or sony, I am seriously thinking about getting a mac for myself hmmm

If I wanted to let a virus loose, why would I target macs when most people have PCs and I could do more damage with a PC virus?

If you buy a Mac, you should know that at least 35 percent of the cost is for the very productive and always trustworthy iCool-Factor™ that comes from having a machine that people associates to other people who are actually creative.

No, I'd say, if you ain't using it for images, films or music - don't bother. You get a much more powerfull pc for the same money. And if you do use it for those sort of thing, well, you still get a more powerfull machine with a pc these days. PLus Adobe, Sony Vegas 10 ect. works well with a pc.

Admitted: I hate Mac. Or more precisely, I hate those people around me that use Mac as a sort of "Hey, look I'm like so like totally like creative like a total artist even though I'm a talentless hack like". So I'm not to be trusted with an opinion on Mac.

Exactly. But if more people buy Macs, doesn't that make them a more desirable target?

I have a Mac at home because I use a Mac at work (in the creative department of a large corporation).

Macs are a piece of cake. Every time I am forced to use a PC, I can't figure out what to do with it. disbelief

PCs are so far ahead of macs in terms of market share that even with the increased sales macs have had recently, it's still incredibly one-sided.

I'm an IT guy from way back (!992). I've worked on mainframes, servers, PCs, hardware, software, you-name-it.

I've always owned PCs, and I used to always build my own computers (you used to save quite a bundle building them yourself).

I bought my first mac 4 years ago, and within 2 years, just completely stopped using PCs unless I have to.

I just upgraded to OS-X Lion, and I have to say I love it already. The multi-touch gestures are awesome, and swiping between applications or to get to my "mission control" screen is a cinch. It's completely intuitive and after just one hour of using these features, I don't want to go back.

You'll get spirited criticisms from the other side--just as you'll get praise from the mac side.

But if you've owneda mac in the last 5 or 6 years, (since going intel), chances are you love your mac. I rarely see mac users unhappy about their macs. Actually, in real life, I've NEVER

met a mac user unhappy about their mac. The only complaint I ever hear was from an owner

of a mac that he owned 11 years ago.

Look, I don't hate PCs. PCs are fine. But I love my mac. With mission control, I can get

to every concievable app, file, service, or feature with one three-finger swipe upwards from any

application in any screen. It's brilliant.

Oh, and I finally had a chance to play with Windows 7. If OS-X Lion was Nancy Carrigon, then Windows 7 is Tonya Harding. One is a uppity snobby bitch, but the other is....well, fucking Tonya Harding.

Get a mac

Truth!

On Saturday, I took my old iBook (circa 2004) to the Apple store in the mall to find out how to wipe it. (I'm donating it to a charity.) Alex at the Genius Bar said, "Why not just let us do it?" I asked if there was a charge to do that and he said, "Nope - unless you count your time for the half hour or so it'll take. We have a server we plug it into that does it automatically. Leave it here, browse the store - or head out into the mall - and we'll call you when it's done." I expressed my surprise (and happiness) that it was a free service and he said, "That's why you buy a Mac. smile "

:nod :nod nod

My pops has an imac...arnd 2004 or 5 or summin....4 years after we bought it....it started to just shut off on it's own. Eventually it wouldn't turn back on.

Brought it to the genius bar or repair counter or something. He cracked it open right there in fron of me....this is November mind you...the store was fuckin PACKED...brand new apple store in Posh posh Rancho Cucamonga CA...PACKED...anyways...opened computer up right there and started looking at it....checke dthe hard drive/power source....changed the power source with a tester...didn't work....cracked open the motherboard...right there, infront of me....the capacators were swollen and bad....asked if I had Mac insurance plan or summin...NOPE...said hold on...went to the back, came back in 2 mins and said it's be like $800 repair.... :jawdrop: ...I ain't got that bro...I knew my dad had it, but wouldn't break with it. I put up a small protest and negotiation...this is where I think the store being crowded came to my aid. I kept trying to find was to put a rapair on them. The crowd help it to work....applid apple insurance credit to it...replaced the motherboard or whatever it was for free...no $800 AT ALL. I was merely hoping for a discount.

and that my friend is the BEST repair experience i've had with ANY company.

Hm. This does make me consider it. BAD service is a pet peeve of mine. Especially with expensive things.
