Intel unable to match mac's price with their new lineup of ultra-thin laptops: http://www.macrumors.com/...ir-prices/

To address ufoclub's concerns with popularity, I think the price of mac computers will more or less ensure they don't achieve the status of PCs....Plus business aren't going to make that kind of a drastic swap. If business haven't swapped to Linux offerings (and that's ACTUALLY CHEAPER), then they won't swap to macs.

Apple probably doesn't even want to go there anyways, as they've diversified into a gadget company. lol

the problem with macs getting popular, is that now there will be viruses designed for it. Stop making viruses you crazy programmers!

I'm convinced that some viruses may be coming from the very company that sell anti-virus software.

I agree, and I wonder sometimes why Microsoft has not designed a virus for Macs

Indeed, I think it's hilarious that others' BOM cost will be the same or more as Apple sells the Air for to customers. lol

The Mac mini is very similar. You realy can't find anything that powerful and flexible at anywhere near that size except from Apple.

Given that Apple has killed their XServe line of servers and that the server software is now available as a download add-on to OS X, I think Apple is going to approach businesses from the ground up instead of aiming for the top. There have been recent reports that the iPhone is making huge business inroads where Blackberry used to reign and out of all tablets being sold into businesses, 95%+ are iPads... eventually these businesses will want a simple server to manage all these Apple devices. They can buy virtually any Mac (as low as $599) and buy the OS X Lion Server add-on for a measly $49 dollars (previously $499).

They did it was called "Internet Explorer: Mac". lol

Seriously, I think MS Office for Mac sells too well for them to really want to kill it.

But if one of the main selling points for Mac is that they are not targets for viruses, it seems like Microsoft would make that not true anymore and try to take back some of the 10% club that is Mac. Then they could sell both Windows AND Office.

While MS certainly isn't above it (one of their engineering mantras back in the early days was "DOS isn't done until Lotus won't run"), even a lone virus on the Mac wouldn't really even the playing field between platforms. It would still be 1 vs 40,000 Windows viruses or however many there are... so I can't imagine many switchers switching back.

...and while there are currently zero self-replicating mac viruses in the wild, OS X already features anti-malware technology built-in, ready and waiting. Any threat could be literally neutralized within hours across the entire, internet connected, installed base of Mac users.

If they traced a virus attacking Apple OS X back to Microsoft, the company would be lawfully punished to the extreme. The publicity would be horrendous. I don't think they would risk imprisonment.
