What will hurt more with age?

You know how someone who's never caught the measles will get it ten times worse as an adult?

You know how a fall down a flight of steps will barely bruise a child but cause massive injuries to an adult?

What other things will cause more pain/damage if experienced for the first time as a grown adult?

- falling off a bike?

- getting punched in the face?

- having your HEART BROKEN?

What (else) do you think is the worst "hurtful" thing to experience for the first time as an adult?

Circumcision

I dated a guy who had it done at the age of 17.

He said it hurt so bad, he had to ask his mom to

help change the bandages. He was mortified!

Yes, I agree!

I was watching one of those shows on the Food Channel or Travel Channel, and there's this place (in Africa?) where boys are circumcised at age 5...and the grandfather is required to EAT the foreskin.

I would think that the older you are, the more likely it is that you'll be able to cope.

Although you probably realize your own mortality more, so that might make it harder. When my dad's sister died my dad told me how sad it is to be the last one still alive of 5 siblings cry . The last remaining member of the family he grew up in. Still he was not coping too bad with her death overall even though they were very close all their lives and IMO one of the reasons was that my dad was an old man at that time himself.

Yes. Deaths of loved ones increasingly foreshadow our own. And they also begin to happen more rapid fire -- and often with more difficult-to-watch complications -- as we and our circle of loved ones get older.

Also, while no one gets through childhood without this, there's a lot more at stake in losing a tooth in adulthood. lol It ain't getting a natural replacement.

I don't know about MORE but what hurts me is time - knowing the days are ncontrolably ticking away - getting closer to my parents not being here and that ive never got as close to them as I would like. Unfortunatley no matter how hard I try I can't recapture the bonding time I feel I overlooked as a teen. Combine that with the fact my children are growing before my eyes faster than I ever dreamed.

Great replies! thumbs up!

I just wanted to remind everyone that my intent was to explore things that would hurt an adult more if experienced FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Like, the broken bones that KingBAD mentioned.

nod I've never broken a bone, so if I were to experience one now at age 40, I assume that the pain would be unbearable.
