I watched the link (thanks johnart). That victim doesn't resemble the large brute with the 5 o'clock shadow, biceps and skirt that I met in the bathroom with my daughter. Definitely more feminine in appearance and likely would not have set off my personal alarms.

However, folks here are saying its a hate crime. From what the victim said, some dumb kids picked a fight and spit on the victim over some stupid percieved look at a boyfriend. Nothing about the transexual's status was mentioned, so i dont get the whole "hate crime" bandwagon here. The victim stated that the teen girls were just looking for a fight. Just some angry bitches walking around looking for a victim, any victim.

People around didn't stop the attack, and that made the victim feel further victimized. The video was long enough...thats for damn sure, but people were probably thinking the polcie would arrive any second.

The film itself has 2 sides to it. The guy filming it was an ass if it was done for entertainment. However, it does give the police a positive ID of the attackers and solid evidence for a conviction once the perps are identified.

Even if the transgendered woman went so far as to put her hands on one of the two assailants, immediate self-defense would be the maximum legal provision permissible to them. Even if we assume such a threat prior to the video, we see here a response wherein such a threat was clearly no longer existent. Next, we see the two assailing parties leave the scene and repeatedly, willfully come back to it. No matter what feelings or opinions on transgender issues any of us might have, these chicks committed pretty open-and-shut felony assault. That seems the most critical point here. Their asses will be convicted, and they can trade tranny "shoulda woulda coulda" pontifications with cellmates and/or probation officers for years to come... as it should be.

Those attacking chicks are fucked. They clearly were not afraid, especially since they kept coming back to do more damage. They had the upper hand once the victim was on the floor. They were not holding down the victim waiting for an officer, they were probably going to drag the victim out to the parking lot and throw the victim into traffic or something worse. Who knows. That was not self defense, that was showboating rage, shit talking mob mentality and cheap shots at somebody who was already impaled.

Their response, assuming the trans issue had anything to do with this (and I will wash your car every day for a month if it turns out it didn't), is sort of like the response you mention you'd have had in your own bathroom encounter... taken to the Nth degree. Thai women who were born biologically as women don't feel threatened by them, or uncomfortable, or assume any kind of aggressive, suspicious stance towards them. They use womens' restrooms without issue. Not because all Thai katoey look like miss Poy up there, as they don't, but because ppl have more respect for others and how they define themselves.

I doubt it's common but if there are fights or confrontations in restrooms surely it could just as easily be a woman confronting you, but do you always reach for your pepper spray every time you enter the restroom just in case someone might start something?

It's an everyday thing here, seeing katoey working in all kinds of jobs and no-one bats an eyelid. I don't know if it's just a Thai thing or a Buddhist thing.

At a couple of Christian churches, one of which my wife used to volunteer at looking after young children and babies, she got all kinds of questions and judgmental comments about her tattoo. Not labeling all Christians of course, but talking about the religions here. It's markedly different. The largely Buddhist population is cool with gays, lesbians and transexuals, but the Christians take issue with something as minor as my wife's tattoo (heaven forbid she told she them she's bi, or if she were a transexual).

Stop adding meanings that I did not type into my post. I didn't say there wasn't any victimization. I do believe I said the victim got an ass whoopin. I do however think folks are reading into the "why" the attack took place and applying things that the victim himself may not have established. he/she just ran into two hard core thug type teens with attitude and looked at one of them the "wrong" way.

No one really needs to add any kind of meaning to your words because you are injecting tons of meaning yourself with the things you say. Your empathy for the victim ends when you see they are different from you. Because the woman is transgendered and that doesn't fit within the dichotomy that The System has built for you, you feel their plight isn't really that big of a deal. On some level, you empathize with the attackers first because you recognize their identities (profiling).

The victim, an Arab transgendered woman, does not fit within the same scheme that has been pounded into your own psyche. Your common definitions of structure (dichotomous male/female oppressor/oppressed strong/weak) leaves little room for a sliding scale attributed to things like gender, ethnicity, etc. The fact you hold so strong onto these rules of engagement only serves to dictate how easy it is to manipulate one minority into hating another, thus making it increasingly more difficult for the double-oppressed minority to make headway.

It is in the realization that the enemy is the same where acceptance can be gleaned. The same author who scripted those young teens to behave in a violent manner has scripted your distaste, confusion, and ignorance about gender science. The same mastermind behind the oppression of the other minorities (aside from transgendered) is the one who planted the seed in your mind that everything is black and white (race, gender, right/wrong).

In short, you've got a lot to learn and I am wary that a child is in your care when such strong prejudice exists inside you. I hope you don't spread this disease to your progeny.

That poor woman was the victim and I could bet my last dollar she posed no threat to those teen girls who almost killed her. This was a hate crime performed by teen girls, while grown men stood and watched, some chuckled and one filmed. She was having a seizure on the floor and no one could even help her up. Left her there...and looked on like she was a common animal.

It is very scary to say the least that someone would actually side with the perpertrators in this case...no matter what your fucking beliefs are.
