All In The Family?

What a great show watched some reruns recently starting with the one where Edith was almost raped sad

What a shocking episode for a show of the time to have or well ANY comedy episode what a great show that really had balls, from Archies very politically incorrect views of well everything. To the legendary episodes with Sammy Davis Jr, The KKK, and the very sad finale=[

This was a groundbreaking show and still funny to this day, anyone else a fan?

Great show...Archie Bunker is probably the best developed character in TV history.

Well written and even better acted.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have the first 6 seasons-should I get anymore? I think it started to not be as good after season 6.

lol (annoying)

She was a 2nd cousin or something of Edith's..

I wonder if ~ given Archie's bigotry ~ they gave her that name b/c of the real Stephanie Mills, the black actress/singer who was starred as Dorothy in The Wiz on Broadway '75-'79

"Stephanie" wasn't part of the cast until the end; '78-'79 [and the spin-off, Archie Bunker's Place, '79-'83]

I don't remember much (I was only in Kindergarten), but my aunt & grandfather took me to see The Wiz.. my first B'way play biggrin

I do recall Stephanie though... she was odd/annoying, but, she had a lot to go through; her mom died and her bum of a father left her with relatives she didn't know -- old ones, too! lol

those kind of things always stood out for me; I couldn't imagine not having both my parents as a kid -- or, like when Penny (Janet Jackson) was beaten and burned by her own crazy mother on Good Times... disbelief It made me so sad for her...

I was a sensitive child... smile

I just introduced my other half to the show for the first time via dvd last night. As a German he was totally shocked that Archie's character was a caricature actually representing attitudes from that time, as it wasn't so long ago- these were actually social paradigms and attitudes that existed quite heavily throughout my American childhood in the 1970's and the show reflects that. We enjoyed watching it and discussing it afterwards. It was a myth buster of sorts to the idea that America has always been a social and racial utopia after the Emancipation Proclamation, and then the Civil Rights Movement (this would easily seem the case to the modern day European in my age range, who lost entire families on every side of WW2). Interestingly enough, my sweetie is absolutely wild for Edith. He thinks her character is childlike and pure of heart, and was probably the sweetest girl in town before she got stuck with a blockhead (his new word I taught him last week) like Archie lol

I used to love this show when I was little. Got a few seasons on DVD. But when I watched them straight through I started to get anxious because of all the yelling. I know it's just a show but sheesh, I didn't realize how much yelling and fighting went on.
