I just discovered this series this past weekend and I loved it! It is so much better than True Blood. I just hate that the season is about to end.

This is one of my favorite new shows. I was disappointed to hear that the season is so short but glad they've ordered more.

Unfortunately, Zombies aren't the most scary thing to me (because they're so slow and stupid) but the drama of it all keeps me interested.

Who thinks the lead will find out about his wife and partner before this season ends?

I'm guessing AMC didn't anticipate the breakout success of the show and therefore ordered only the 6 episodes. Oddly, it'll work in their favor: The long gap until the next season is gonna drive people nuts! They'll be feenin' for the Season 2 debut.

Zombies aren't scary to me either... until I think about what they represent: death and futility themselves. They never stop, their singular purpose is devouring you and even survival does nothing but increase the odds against you and those you love. shake Really uncomfortable stuff.

I think Rick may find out about his wife and partner this season, but it won't play out until the next. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Zombies are relentless! But the most disturbing moment for me was when the black guy (who, along with his son, nursed Rick back to health) saw his wife as a zombie wandering around outside the house. I admit, I was kinda touched when he aimed his gun at her but couldn't pull the trigger.

By the way, did they figure out what happened to Merle?

I've been digging it and I'm REALLY glad they gave them 13 eps next season, but the comic book is SOOOO much betteer. The show is based on the comic book but follows it's own story threads as well. If they end up sticking to that rule and the show stays on for a few seasons there's some GREAT surprises ahead.

I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of that zombified wife situation. I've heard we do see that family again in the books (and I dunno if father and son are still alive and well), but it seems the show's producers use the source material only as loose inspiration. I hope they don't revisit that family only to have the wife infect the husband and/or father, both of whom still love her. sad

And, no, we don't yet know what happened to Merle. He's just gone. But I'm pretty sure his return is going to bring major fireworks.

The characters on the show speculated that Merle stole their van and brought the zombies to the camp. I don't believe that though.

This is kind of like LOST but simply with zombies instead of an over intricate mystical island. And without the long character flashbacks... but similar drama appeal.

I agree it's nowhere near as intense as the character moments in LOST (like that second episode where we learn about John Locke and how he started walking again that day on the beach), but it's a similar formula. I think it's drawing in tons of people (like my girlfriend) who would never really get into a typical zombie movie.

The tearful scene with the protagonist reunited with his family amidst the romantic tension created by the best friend sleeping with his wife in his absence...and they're all attractive... that's just like LOST!

The original comic novel is rated R for the graphic violence content. And there were at least 2 rape incidents in the storyline!

Actually, they speculated that Merle would bring revenge on the camp for leaving him handcuffed. I don't think there was any insinuation it was zombies he was bringing.

The zombies are just finally leaving ATL because there's less "food" there now and they are hungry. lol

I'm a little disappointed in the show. There was so much hype before it aired about how close they stayed to the graphic novel, etc. but I'm not feeling it.

It's getting even more like LOST... lone guy in the research station, protagonist begging for mercy at a closed door, it opens with bright shining light... cut and end episode.

They never really stated that, though. They've said they'd be hitting all the important plot points in the comics but that there would be new stories, too, and that all the characters would not be the same nor see the same fate.

I never watched Lost. I tuned in once, after there was some buzz about it, but I was lost (no pun intended). And I don't like flashbacks.

In the comic novel, the character Michrome (the lone black female heroine in the entire Walking Dead series thus far) gets rape twice by a evil governor. neutral

A coworker said to me, "Have you seen 'The Walking Dead'?" the same day this thread was created. I watched all of it over the weekend, and the new one last night...

I like it. nod

don't worry. she's such a minor, insignificant character on the TV show that a rape is sure to go to a more meaty role.

Are you reading the monthlies or just a collected graphic novel? The monthly is up to issue 79 and is still ongoing. biggrin

I've been reading the softback novels for free inside my local book stores. So far, there is only 12 volumes.

Oh, well that's most of them then. Volume 12 took you up to issue 72. Volume 13 (released on Nov 23) is up to issue 78. I know it's growing in popularity, and I'm sure the TV show isn't hurting that. That's probably why they got Vol 13 out so fast behind the monthly.

Wait. The Black lady that's there now is supposed to be Michonne?

Fuck no.

I'm done with this show. I was waitin for Michonne to show up. I had never heard them say her name.

That's like havin Wolverine played by Matthew Broderick with no claws.

Nevermind, that's not Michonne. Imdb says her name is Jacqui.

In the books, Michonne shows up later, on her own. She has a cape, a bloody sword and two roamers on leashes.

She is the badass of badasses. Nobody on the show so far is on her level. I was about to start a letter writing campaign.

Great first 2 episodes..after tha it got quite uinteresting tbh. The acting is really bad at times too.

Really dissapointed with the season finale too. They seriously need to develop these characters man, cuz so far, I don't give a damn about none of them.
