Just saw "Enter the Void"

And I really like it. This would be incredible on blu-Ray with surround sound. It is such a fresh breather in a slew of conventional movies!

Such a cool intense nightmare mood.

No! It has sex scenes, but it's like Tron hell populated by Taxi Driver going through a Philip k Dick obstacle course. And certain moments are as abstracted as 2001.

Sort of makes you wonder..."Two thumbs way up where?"

So when it's not in first person you have to stare at the back of that guy's head? I'm personally not too fond of camera gimmicks. They make me more aware of the medium than of the story. The story and the visuals do look cool though.

The thing is a normal movie is all camera gimmicks, reverse angle edits to show character interactions, etc

We're just used to it.

This movie is just changing the basic language of telling a story or creating an emotional mood. It doesn't care what you're used to or comfortable with, hence a 17 million movie is going to make very little money in the short run (most people will hate it), but may show a profit in the long run.

And it's directed by Gaspar Noé who also did Irreversible? Now it's a must see.

OMG Irreversible was so good, and so freaked me out. I almost could not look at the screen for parts of it.

But because it's not what we're used to, the first/third person thing does come across as a gimmick, and who knows, maybe it works this time. I just think it's too bad if it's allowed to detract from what might otherwise be an absorbing story in its own right.

And perhaps it will be part of setting a new standard although I doubt it; this particular gimmick has been done before but never took hold, and for good reason. For now I remain skeptical when innovation is focused more on the medium than the fundemental storytelling, which is where the industry seems to be going with all the 3D crap, Avatar motion capture etc.

Ditto, and I don't know what I'm going to have to do to erase the mental image that "Enter The Void" brings up, but I'd better do it fast or my whole Columbus Day is ruined.

Try and watch the directors version instead of the short cut..

I saw the original directors edit (london film festival in 09)and that blew me away, it was long but did not feel like it as it was a journey and not some straight linear story.
I took two of my friends to watch it today , the shorter edit verion, it was still great but having that particular scene (dream sequence) missing left me quite annoyed!

So if you have the chance go and watch the directors version First!!

I just saw it tonight at the cinema. The theater website said 137 minutes so I'm guessing that's the edited version.

I loved it, but the feeling it gave me was beyond most normal films, more intrusive into my mind and thoughts. More moody, more displacing like I was dreaming or hallucinating myself. It's relentless. And sentimental too!

If you are a fan of movies like Irreversible, Requiem for A Dream and Antichrist then this movie is for you. Dark, disturbing and trippy. Unlike anything I've ever seen before.
