She had perfect confermation and temperment ~ Both her parents were outstanding athelets and award winners

her 2nd and 3rd yr ground work was comming along beautifully and she was growing to outshine her parents

she slipped backwards on some mud and got a one inch cut

that tiny cut hit her in the most harmful area ~ her rear weight bearing leg tendon and fractured it

We did all we could for 3 weeks ... i was by her side as much as possible with 4 kids at home too ..and we spent thousands and thousands in medicine, vets and what not PLUS the constant meadical work we had to do with shunts and shots and thearpy

I had to put her down ... the tendon would not heal

word of advice ~ NEVER try to hold up a 3yr old quater horse as they dye after the vet has injected the meds that put them to sleep forever

The suffering, working, hoping, expending of resources...all of that is bad enough, but it must have been made so much worse knowing it was caused by such a tiny, freak injury.

I have a friend/coworker here in FL who has cared for horses her whole life. I don't think she forms the same emotional connection with them that you do, though. She's more of a traditional rancher type of girl and looks at them as useful work animals. When she has to put a horse down she takes them to a guy who shoots them and feeds them to alligators. Circle of life, I guess, but it seems brutal to me.

THis is Babe ~ around 3-4 months old ~ she always allowed the littles to sit on her ( that's Jess ) ~ she had rock steady temperment from the moment she was born
