elementary school memories.

So in tribute to the past--and particular to the most whimsical moment in your childhood. post a wonderful event that is stuck with you through your adulthood.

for me---there are two events one in 6th grade and the other one 1st grade--both during halloween.

in 6th grade, i was allowed to walk home from school on halloween! it was about 3 pm--and i remember walking through this shortcut--i love this street because of these giant trees adjacent to each other---the leaves which were greenish-brownish where falling causing this autumn leaf shower and further down giant eucalyptus tree which filled the air which this musty earthy smell that i alluded to vapor rub and cough drops.....i guess you can say this was my first spiritual experience.

my second greatest childhood memory was in 1st grade on halloween eve---we went to the library--the librarian was dressed like a which and she made these gruesome(and yet yummy) finger cookies which she dunked in this graveyard dirt(smashed chocolate cookies). she then read this story! it was oh so wonderful. i remember being sympathetic to the old lady(in the story) who found a bone in the graveyard and took it to her home---and was scare when the ghost popped out of closet.

When I was in kindergarden I use to sneak over to the older kids' part of the playground and play on the rings.

I use to stay after school and play on the rings. I LOVED the rings. I'd swing on them until I had blisters all across my hands.

Once, my dad came looking for me because it had been HOURS and my mom was frantic. I never went home after school. I was like innocent "Why is everyone worried?" I laugh at it now,but man I probably cost my poor parents a couple of years behind that. lol

My dad was sooooooo mad at me. Then he saw my hands and he could not believe it. He was torn between being pissed at me...relieved that I was okay...and amazed that I would play on the rings until my hands were blistered.

Second grade, I met a girl named Angel. I thought she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. She had long, bright, light blonde hair and fair skin. Her mom enrolled her in gymnastics and I think piano. She was just....dazzling.

We ended up being second grade 'boyfriend and girlfriend' and even won the Track & Field king and queen for our grade lol

I remember just being awed and fascinated by her. up until the second grade, I had lived in Saipan and although a few of my classmates were white, I had never seen light blonde hair before. She just fascinated me in the looks department.

Also, in the 6th grade I owned a smurfs blanket that I put to good use.

You dodged a bullet on that one. If you'd have undertaken such a heavy responsibility at such an early age, who knows if you'd have become the treasure you are today.

Miss Williams...every dude in elementary school wanted to hit that.

The day I fought a fourth grader when I was in second grade and bloodied his nose in the schoolyard. Our families later became friends. He drowned about 13 years ago though.

The day my mom walked me to school (I usually walked myself) and it was raining, the wind closed the umbrella on the two of us and the crossing guard laughed at us.

Citywide spelling bees. I was never actually excited about the spelling bee itself as much as I was the fact that I knew my grandmother (R.I.P.) would be taking me out to eat as always afterward, wherever I wanted to go. And the time she wrote a $200 check and told me it was mine if I won, then I placed second...and she still gave it to me and told me she was proud.

I was the captain of my school soccer team which gave me some credence. One of the hottest girls in the school called Caroline fancied me because of that fact. I remember when I found out and I felt high as a kite.

I went to a private school for preschool and kindergarten. 1st grade was my first foray into public school, back when it was still a good place to go. All my neighbor pals were there, so it was pretty decent. Some of those kids I still keep in contact with today, on a regular basis.

For anyone from Oklahoma, they'll know what the "Sooner Run" day at school means. It was a blast every year.

Oh, let's post pictures!

Yeah, I'm in there somewhere. My teacher looked like late 80's Oprah. hahaha Mrs. Greene was a cool teacher though. The red-headed boy in the near-middle is Travis. I still talk to him almost daily or weekly to this day. Our lives ended up being very parallel in a lot of ways over the years. Smiling girl in yellow dress left on 2nd row lived across the street from me, and we still talk regularly to this day.

For me, the best part of grade school was making friends that I still have 38 years later.

I remember wearing a headband to school in the 4th grade so I could look like Olivia Newton-John - Physical. My bitch teacher told me to get that thing off of my head. I guess she though a boy shouldn't be wearing headbands to school.
