LOL Girl in the yellow is Michelle. I still talk to her. She lived across the street from me, and we grew up together. The girl w/ the pig tails in the red plaid dress is Debbie, and a TALKER. We went through all our school years together. I forget who black girl is, but I remember being friends with a few of the sistas, even back then.

I went to Catholic school for first and second grade.

My second-grade teacher, Sister Andrew, had multiple sclerosis. She usually used a wheelchair, but she also had a cane for times when she needed to write on the blackboard, or move from her wheelchair to her desk.

For every day of the school year, she would designate a pupil as the "child of the day." And each child, in turn, got to do the same special thing. For one round, the special thing we got to do was to take a ride all the way down the hall in Sister's wheelchair. And you got to pick the person who pushed the wheelchair. lol

She also must have had a thing about Australia, because we learned a lot of Australian songs that year. I still remember Kookaburra and Waltzing Matilda by heart.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I went to a private school for preschool and kindergarten. 1st grade was my first foray into public school, back when it was still a good place to go. All my neighbor pals were there, so it was pretty decent. Some of those kids I still keep in contact with today, on a regular basis.

For anyone from Oklahoma, they'll know what the "Sooner Run" day at school means. It was a blast every year.

Oh, let's post pictures!

Yeah, I'm in there somewhere. My teacher looked like late 80's Oprah. hahaha Mrs. Greene was a cool teacher though. The red-headed boy in the near-middle is Travis. I still talk to him almost daily or weekly to this day. Our lives ended up being very parallel in a lot of ways over the years. Smiling girl in yellow dress left on 2nd row lived across the street from me, and we still talk regularly to this day.

For me, the best part of grade school was making friends that I still have 38 years later.

Are you talking about Land Run? That has changed so much....the kids are so not allowed to do it anymore..at least not here in Norman. I remember my 3 kids doing Land Run and it was fun. Now the kids can't trade for things, they can't dress up as certains characters etc...they don't even run to claim land anymore. sad

Sadly I don't have fond memories of grade school! I was teased in school from the time I was in Kindergarton until 6th grade. I hated it so much in 5th and 6th I would skip. I really didn't hang out with the kids in my school because they were so mean. I mainly hung out with Jr. High kids, and kids from the other grade school in my town.

Now that I think about it I would love to run into the kid that use to tease me about my looks and say..."F**K you!

lol
