Does anyone besides a few hairdressers even know how to do that anymore though? For men's hair, I mean.

There are lots of hairdressers who typically treat women's hair who could do it; not the exact technique of old perhaps, but a modern treatment. They'd just need to familiarize themselves with men's cuts.

The bigger problem, I think, would be getting your average man to be secure enough to step into a "women's" salon... until hairdressers in more "manly" places begin to take up the technique again. confused

Maybe that's the problem? At some point, grooming became a "feminine" pursuit and any guys who did so were pansies.

We can probably safely blame hippies for that. lol

Marcel waves -- with some restraint -- are awesome! And sooo glamourous. nod

I'm not certain if they can be called true Marcels, but when I look at vintage photos, I think that heavy pomade, deep sculpted wave look some white guys adopted from, say, the mid-1800s through the early 1960s could be fun if it came back. So many Abercrombie types slather their hair with product anyway -- it'd be cool to see them use it toward something retro-suave instead of spiky and punkish.

Of course they'd need training, as clearly the trend could get out of hand smile...

A lot of men who wore their hair that way didn't have to have it "done." I have photos of my grandfather with his hair like that. He had naturally curly hair, so all he needed was a dab of pomade. shrug

Of course. My dad's hair was the same way. Considering those men, I suppose what I'd like to see would be the perfectly tapered cuts and precisely combed, almost sculpted, waves up top.

If men who practice good grooming are pansies, I guess my guy is "just gay enough." lol

So first and foremost, we should bring back a sense of even caring, eh? Hear hear.

No shaky ground. hug The picture of the man simply looks like my Dad, when I was growing up. The fact he was a drunk was his own doing. I am sorry I brought it up. But sometimes I feel it theurapeutic, to remind myself who he was.

Why all the hatred for the mustache only look? It is a style that must return.

As a disclaimer, I would never wear it due to the fact that I can't stand having the slightest amount of facial hair.

One that I hope never returns is the fanny pack look that was big for about a week in 1991 or some year around then.
