We just moved in. So please feel free to give me some paint ideas. We figured we could just move stuff in, get a feel, and then paint next year.

I see a nice deep red. Not too dark where it's burgundy but deeper than what I used in my kitchen.
Something similar to what's on the rug. wink

All that dark furniture makes the rooms look a bit small and uncomfortable, IMO.
I´d cover some stuff with bright colored sheets or maybe get rid of some of the dark furniture. I had stuff like that in the 90s but found it waaaaay too dark looking and now that I have bright colored stuff I feel much more comfortable.

In the condo we lived in before we had light colored furniture. We got rid of it....I guess we should take all those purchases back, huh?

Dark or light furniture is strictly a matter of personal taste. I think your furniture is just fine (especially if you like it!!!).

I like the dark brown leather couch very much! The wall/tv unit will work. I personally stay away from very dark large units for the most part mostly because it shows dust so much and with the 2 dogs...forget it.

never thought of that. The rest of the house has light colored furniture. We had to find a happy medium with the living room. He likes darker furniture and light colored surroundings.

I think I may post our foyer. I don't know WHAT to do with it. I know mirrors or random art and perhaps a rug. Just clueless as to what to do with it.

This is our first home so I'm extra excited about getting it all settled in.

Wow, you guys have some beautiful homes!

We just moved also. The former owners of the house had owned it for 40 years. They are so precious.
The house is in great condition, but it had not had any updating since the 70s!!!!

its fine, i just wouldn't change the wall color. Keep you accessories minimal and to scale with the rest of the furniture. Add a few choice solid color wall panels for some of the window that run from floor to ceiling to tie in a color, like a dark red. Doing this will be cost effective and easy. and minimal, which is what your aim should be, minimal with all the heavy dark furniture. Maybe just one coloured panel on one side of each window opening running floor to ceiling to give it the room some height. Maybe throw a couple large natural coloured down filled sheepskin throw pillows on the sofa.
thats it, your home- sheepskin throw pillows in natural and a couple floor to ceiling curtain panels. Go zero show on the curtain rods, no frills or finials.

We just picked up the red curtains. Great idea with the ceiling to floor idea. We are thinking to use light colors to paint downstairs, since the furniture is dark.

I like the sheepskin idea. Will have to go shopping for that tomorrow.
