Finally Got Round To Watching Citizen Kane (spoiler been edited) Unbloodybelievable...what a fantastic film.
I cant believe I had hadn't watched it sooner. Whats probably more surprising is how I have managed to avoid finding out about "Rosebud" for so long. Anyone else love this movie? [Edited 8/14/08 10:28am] [Edited 8/14/08 10:30am] Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

This movie does not end up on 'best of ever'-lists so often for nothing.
It brings together story and image in probably one of the best acted movies ever. I love it.

It brings together story and image in probably one of the best acted movies ever. I love it. Absolutely!!! What I also loved about it was its pace,it was quick.Scenes had loads of dialogue(Tarantino totally influenced by this). It was beautifully filmed and so easy on the eye....i could go on and on. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I heard this was the best American film ever made.
So I downloaded it from a torrent site. Well, the torrent was actually a spoof Porno movie called Citizen Shane. I posted a lengthy blog review of Citizen "Shane" on my myspace once so as not to have wasted all that time waiting on the download for nothing. I still want to see Citizen "Cane" though, and now thanks to this thread, doubly so.

Wanna know what's even more amazing? Orson Welles was 26 years old when he made that film. Twenty-friggin'-six. And it consistently tops the "best films of all time" lists. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh - and it co-stars Joseph Cotten - one of my favorite actors. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

i guess what makes this film a really big deal is how it was on the cutting edge of cinematography for its time. and a lot of the techniques used for this film became common or standard in the film industry afterwards. it wasn't just the story line that made it one of the best movies ever.

whats more interesting than the movie itself, for me, is the back story.
Im a film student and the past 2 weeks we've been studying the movie. The entire movie is making fun of real well known man and his mistress. the rosebud in the movie is actually what the real man called his mistresses "vagina" So basically the whole movie isa big F.U. to hollywood, thus almost ending orsonwelles career. I dont have the names right now but thats basically whats going on. the whole movie is one big inside joke.

Oh, no question about that! In particular, the low angle at which many of the scenes were shot was groundbreaking - because it showed the ceiling. It was (by all accounts) absolute hell either superimposing the ceiling or trying to light by another means so the set could have an actual ceiling. Welles was a mad genius - there's very little dispute about that. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Haven't seen this yet myself. I actually recorded it once but the damn channel managed to broadcast the movie 20 minutes late, so it missed the ending. Didn't want to watch it without the ending, of course.
