Phelps given gold by .01 sec.

The Serbians appear to agree with that sentiment. They're protesting his win.

I have to say, though, the Serbian swimmer Phelps (arguably) beat is being a really good sportsman about it. He looks genuinely happy for Phelps and he's conducting himself perfectly.

The touch pads don't lie! Michael wasn't given the gold--he took that mug! In yo' face, Charlie Murphy!

Apparently pitz is in Detroit this weekend. I wonder what for.

From what I heard, he was super pissed no-one thought to invite him to Beijing. He was very classy tonight though.

That was shitty of them not to fly him out there. NBC, IOC, U.S. Olympic Committee - SOMEONE should've flown him out there. Damn shame.

Tyson Gay doesn't even make the 100m finals. eek Bolt looks good for the final later. Whatever happened to US sprinting? hmmm Or British sprinting for that matter. Our current crops sucks compared to the athletes 4-10 years ago. shrug

Dayum! That was the most astonishing 100m run I've ever seen. Average start at best, looking around, easing up with 15 metres to go and crossing the line almost sideways and beating your chest for a 9.69? eek

Take away the easing up and throw in a dip for the line and you're looking at maybe 9.62 or so. Throw in the fact that there was no wind in favour or against and I think Bolt could run a 9.5 something in the right favourable conditions. A legal wind of +2.0 would knock another four or fifth hundredths off. Just scary! disbelief

Maybe now that 200m record of Michael Johnson isn't as out of this world and untouchable as we thought. hmmm

As for US sprinting, I think that a lot of potential sprinters are going to other sports like football and basketball where they can play wide receiver or point guard and get more money. Plus for some reason Tyson Gay has been hampered by hamstring injures this year, and I think psychologically that may have been a reason his times weren't that great in the sprints. Even so, the Jamaicans were most likely the favorites to win the gold medal.

As for the British, Canadian and other European sprinters, most of those who competed for those countries in the past have actually come from Jamaica or the other Caribbean nations and got citizenship just to compete in the Olympics. Both Linford Christie of Great Britain and Donovan Bailey of Canada who won the gold medal in the 100 meters in 1992 and 1996 respectively were actually Jamaican transplants.

Now as for Usain Bolt, that time is unreal! omg omfg I didn't think that it would be possible to run that fast. I thought that these sprinters were approaching the maximum limit a human being could run without completely destroying the body, but I guess I was wrong.

Redeem Team is looking more like Dream Team, as they beat the fuck outta Spain 102-71. Notes on an e-card:

- Wade looks to be back to his normal baller self
- Bron can play D if he puts his mind to it
- If they play D like this, no one's gonna get within 15 points of these cats
- Redd is more athletic than I realized, he got up for an alley-oop
- The international officials are inconsistent as fuck with their calls
- Once the Redeemers get a big lead, these teams just lay down like bitches - they seem to only be able to play well as long as they have a lead or are close
- Gold = Guaranteed.

Roger Federer shook off a bad singles tournament and a bad year (by his standards) to win the doubles gold with Stanislas Wawrinka!

Federer wins that gold medal he's been dreaming of since 1992 while Wawrinka wins his first ever doubles tournament!

I'm not sure I've ever seen Roger look happier. I love their victory celebration where he warms his hands over Stan because he's so hot! falloff

Dang, you all are a tough crowd in GD. lol

How's this:

Sports Illustrated did a frame-by-frame breakdown. Phelps' right hand touches the wall before Cavic's outstretched hands. It's very, very close, but Phelps touched first.

None of the other teams looks all that hot this year and everyone keeps talking about how the US will need to make their free throws/shoot better from 3/play better defense etc. when they get to the crux of the tournament. lol

The Ball Don't Lie live blog is dubbing this Wade 2.0 and from what I've seen I wouldn't disagree. He's looking to stuff everything and is jumping out of the building. Love the intensity. Great defense from D.Wade. I've even caught Melo playing some D at times. eek

Yeah, I don't see how their free throw woes will hurt them, and neither their 3pt issues. The team is just dialed in right now to be stopped. Way too much athleticism and talent.

They've basically played everyone except Lithuania and they're getting more and more comfortable with everything with each game. In order to have even a close-ish game going into the fourth quarter a team's going to need to shoot the lights out the entire way. With the way they're playing it's hard to see the US struggling on offense for anything like long stretches. In every game it's ebbing and flowing in the beginning and then the US goes full court, gets a few steals and gets out for easy dunks and they're on their way to a double digit lead that never looks in danger.

p.s. Seeing LeBron at the 4 is almost the thing of man crushes. lol Bron blocks! woot!

Love the line-ups they can play too, with Paul and Williams in there together. Kidd seems a bit superfluous. Never convinced by Boozer. Prince's garbage time is getting earlier and earlier, such is the ease. lol

I love it when they can play LeBron at the 4 with Bosh at 5, have 2 point guards and maybe throw in a Kobe or Wade for good measure.

Their inside size always bothered me but it's good to see it's not hurting them. But next squad, they better have at least 3 dudes 6'10+ JUUUUST to make sure.

Big congrats to Michael Phelps...The dude is amazing. Haven't seen anyone mention about Jamica's Usain Bolt. This cat ran a 9.69 in the 100 which was a world's record. But the main thing that blew my mind was the way the cat won. He pulled up, actually slowing down a good 20 meters before he got to the finish line. And he STILL was WAAAAY ahead of everybody else. He could have ran a 9.59 if he had ran full speed straight through, I think. He was so far ahead of everyone else, it was crazy. Even after he slowed down, he was still way ahead of everyone esle. The cat who got second place was so excited that he acted happier than Bolt did. Man, I've never seen a cat just destroy their compettion in track. In a 100 yrd dash even. This cat has serious speed. And is 6'5. If he goes to the NFL as a wide receiver, u could forget it. Nobody on the field could even begin to think about covering this cat. On ESPN, they mentioned what he would do if he went that route. The cat may not even like football.

Yeah, me and pops (former track star in his day) were dead silent after Bolt won. We looked at each other and said "Either he's the greatest sprinter of all time - bar none, or he's as juiced as juiced can get."

I've never seen ANYTHING like that dude. Ever. At 6'5? You're not supposed to run that fast at that height. Again, if he's clean, he's the greatest ever.

As for football, I wouldn't put too much stock in that because he'd have to learn routes and he may not be the same with pads on and he may not be able to take a hit. I remember one dude - Renaldo Nehemiah - and that's ALL I have to say about that. All it takes is one good mash from an LB or SS or FS and that will get a track dude out of football in a damn hurry lol.

Yep..but u know, homeboy that one yesterday, he's got to eat a slice of humble pie. My man is a little caught up. Even in the interview after he just ran, he was a little short with the cat. he's got to get some grace I feel. I know he's young but that's no excuse.
