Yeah, dude, I think you were scammed. sad I'm sorry, that really sucks you were trying to get a great gift for your son. Anytime someone requests payment with Western Union be very suspicious. ( http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/e...=red-flags )

I was buying a Gucci bag and when I received the item it was fake and completely different than what I was bidding on. I put in a complaint and I got 75% of my money back. I was still pissed but glad I didn't lose everything.

Y'know, I'd be happy with something....I can't even get this guy to respond to my emails...yet he has thousands of happy customers.... what the fuck? disbelief

Oh and by the way Carrie.... congrats on yours and Tommy's impending engagement after he wins the Superbowl in a few weeks...

I totally understand. I have had pretty good luck with ebay, but I did get scammed here once (bought something from someone in the Marketplace forum)...luckily I paid with Paypal and was able to get my money back.

I suppose the guy had good official feedback because he scams people 'outside' of ebay, and there is no way to leave feedback for that. confused

somebody tried to do that to me. i was bidding on a ibook and loss. afterwards someone emailed me saying the bidder didnt pay so they were selling it for half of what they were asking which was about 600 bucks. it didnt look right to me and by that time i lost interest and deleted it. i ended up just getting a brand new one through Apple online.

A week or so ago I placed a few bids on an item on eBay. I kept getting outbid so I dropped it. I was contacted by "the seller" a few days later inquiring as to whether or not I'd like to make a best offer for the item. I did and he accepted. I received an "official" email from ebay congratulating me and telling me how to complete the transaction.

The payment option was through Western Union.... (what a dumbass I am! wall ) I paid the agrred upon price + a transaction fee of $22.

Then nothing.... I cannot get a hold of this guy and eBay claims it was done "outside" of them and now here I am... a week later... wondering if I just got taken for almost $200.

This was supposed to be a surprise for my oldest sons birthday....and fuck if I don't feel like a dumbass for this..... I have had pretty good luck in the other transaction I have had on eBay.....but now this...

Anybody else out there get duped by eBay?

Please get a Paypal account.

Shit... eek That's why I say no to Western Union transactions. Sometimes, Even paypal ones. Luckily for me, I've never been ripped off. I always check the percentage and the sell number of the vendor I want to buy from. I tend to not trust anyone with lots of Minus reviews.
I'm sorry you got scammed, though. Something similar happened to me when I wanted to sell my stupid iPod shuffle. It was one of those moronic purchases I got because I didn't read the Apple description right. (At the time, I didn't know the diff between a Nano and Shuffle.) Anyway, I tried to sell the thing for 20 bucks on eBay. I got one bidder for my lame little item. I got excited and when time was up, I awaited on her (or him..) to provide me with info on where to send it. I get the info, I get what I think is a confirmation email that she's buying it for her son...but I never get paid. I made SURE not to send the item before I got paid. I gave her 6 days--1 day extra for the required due date. When I got nothing, I found out I had been conned by one of those Nigerian bot things. That's when I just said, screw it. I'll sell this thing on myspace or pawn it for three bucks. I still have it, somewhere in the house... eek

Long story short, buying and selling is a gamble on the 'bay. It's always better to do transactions via paypal. Western Uninon transactions have reputations on sites as usually being crap. There's usually a warning for transactions like that. But always....ALWAYS check who the buyer is and what other people say about them. I'm really sorry you lost so much cash... sad

oh yeah, thats what they wanted me to do. They sent me a check for something like 3000.00 1500.00 over the price of the carpet, and I was supposed to western union the rest of the money to a person who was supposed to pick up the carpet for them.

Well... I ordered back in October a Nintendo DS Lite from a power seller from Hong Kong. I checked his feedback first and he had a very good one with satisfied buyers. I was expecting to receive it before Xmas but until this day I have received nothing. I contacted the seller and he told me on many occasions that he would check with the Hong Kong post office, yeah right pfff... So I gave him an ultimatum, if I don't get my money back by this week I will raise a complaint.

Thank you...

The seller had 99.7% positives...but as it turns out....I sent money to someone else....

I ran a Google search for the name of the contact was instructed to send money to...there was a page in the eBay forums about this guy and that he was a scammer.... then I looked a little deeper and found the real source of this issue...

It turns out that predators look at the names of those people bidding and send out numerous emails based on the buyers username on eBay. A representative of eBay said that a large percentage of eBay consumers use their email username as their eBay username... then send out emails to numerous popular email providers such as Yahoo, HOtmail, etc and then wait for their prey...

My eBay username is the same as one of email accounts....that's how they got me...

I am getting angrier by the minute.... I cannot believe I got scammed... just so WAY out of character for me... my spidey-senses are usually a great yardstick and I dismissed my concerns... this was for my son afterall...

i once thought i got screwed over on something, i sent the money order and emailed the guy saying it was on its way...2 weeks passed so i emailed him back and got no reply, so i thought well there goes my $50.....2 months later i get my money order back in the mail, turns out the guy gave me a bogus address and the post office people sent it back to me, i got lucky there.

I feel like i ripped a guy off once, just from the amount i paid for something, i bought all 6 seasons of the show Oz on dvd for like $120 australian...well that was my top bid, a couple of minutes before it ended some dude bid something like $200! i was a bit annoyed that i had lost. the next day i got an email telling me the highest bidder had backed out and i was the new highest razz so that was good for me
