St. Patrick's Day Foods... your take (?)

St. Patrick's Day is this coming Saturday! In the states we usually celebrate it by having corned beef and cabbage, green beer, etc. It the ONE day a year some people look forward to eating such things, similar to having the traditional turkey dinner on Thanksgiving. Of course all of it is optional, but what's your opinion of St. Patrick's Day food? Is it something you like having once a year? Why? How do you like it prepared?

I don't like it. I hate cooked cabbage. I mean really dislike it. Corn beef is alright I suppose, but cabbage shake

I normally don't eat anything terribly special for St Pats day.

lol

In high school my friend Chris and I would always make sure to get one on St Patty's day. lol

Other than that, corned beef and cabbage sound horrific to me and it's never occurred to me to associate any other food to the day.

Oddly enough, in Ireland we don't have any traditional St. Patrick's Day foods, at least not that I've ever heard of.

We don't seem to celebrate it as enthusiastically as you do in the US either, we do have parades, but the biggest and best Paddy's Day parades are in New York and Boston. I always feel sorry for all those marching bands and majorettes who spend months practicing and spend a fortune to get here to take part in the Dublin parade. It must be so disappointing for them.

The only traditional Paddy's day thing I consume is heroic quantities of Irish whiskey, so I can cope with the local parade (which isn't nearly as good as the Dublin one, and often features local farmers in their tractors with one obligatory balloon attached, so you can feel my pain).

This year I will be starting procedings with a green champagne and weed breakfast (as recommended by cborgman).
