well, i lived... quick note, not feeling to well....
i had the surgery.... i think things with that are ok, however, when they put me under, whoever is in charge of taping your eyes shut, failed to put the artificial moisture in there and during surgery my left eye was open a bit, causing the tape to adhere to my eyeball itself. i woke in the most horrible god aweful pain i could imagine, noone would listen to me.... my mother drove me home where we turned right around and went back to the ER at the hospital. they found an abrasion that covers the entire pupil and colored area of the eye. at this point, i cannot see anything out of my left eye other than bright light and large objects. the surgeon called here last night, he feels horrible, talked to my mom (i was asleep)... he arranged for me to see the eye doctor of his choice, he claims is the best in town and totally paid for my visit there. when they tested my eyesight, i have 20/20 out of the right eye, and 2400 out of the left. this was totally unexpected, and im not sure who is to blame, but it sure does suck.... my eye hurts so bad, i have YET to even have pain that rregisters from the surgery site itself... however, that will change tomorrow im sure as they are to unpack/clean/and repack the surgical site tomorrow at about 10AM. anyway, im going back to bed, i just wanted you to know i am still alive. an update for you all... (cant believe im a sticky ) things are still very strange around here, i still have little to no vision in my eye, but the pain is gradually decreasing... now instead of painpills every 3 and 1/2 hours, im up to making it about 4 and 1/2 hours - they said thats good. the eye specialist today said that things are moving along, seems as if there wouldnt be any permanent scaring across the eyeball itself - thats a blessing. my vision has not improved, infact, it has worsened, but that could just be because my eye has been patched and not used in 3 days im dealing now with a lot of anger. i feel like i was mistreated and not taken care of in the operating room where your health and safety are COMPLETELY in someone else's control. i still have not gotten an answer from anyone as to how this happened, most everyone seems to believe it was the tape though that was allowed to adhere to the eyeball itself and then when it was ripped off...well, we know what happens next. most frustrating thing is that when i woke from the surgery.... and i was INSTANTLY trying to communicate that something was in my eye, the nurses were asking me things like, 'do you want a cracker ?' ... 'do you need a drink ?'.... 'do you want something for pain?'... to which my answer to all of that was NO I HAVE SOMETHING IN MY EYE !!!!! at one point, they were all three sitting at the nursess desk talking about some television show that they had watched, i swear if i could have got myself up, i would have beat the living shit outta them !! finally i had them go get my mother out of the waiting room and she was trying to tell them, they just got me dressed and wheeled me out to the car... i didnt speak all the way home, i was still so confused, no pain from my arm at all, but the most god awful pain imaginable from my eye. my mom kept asking me if i was alright, and i just kept saying something was in my eye and scratching the hell outta me... we got home and my mother and sister in law were trying to look in my eye with a magnifying glass and i burst into tears and said to call an ambulance for help, i thought they could wash whatever was in there out.... we ended up back in the ER, where i was told 'THERE IS NO WAY YOU COULD HAVE INFLICTED THIS WOUND ON YOURSELF, ITS HUMANLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STAND THE KINDA PAIN YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH TO DO THIS'.... lately, my surgeon has tried several times to say that i could have been the one that did this - and i am the one that is saying that i woke up to this pain whatever, it sucks, that much i do know. the surgery site itself though is beautiful... its very well done, and looks as if it is going to heal up just fine. they took about 3X3 inches of skin out and scrapped the area underneath nice and smooth. changing the dressing can make you sick to your stomach, it just doesnt feel right, but the pain is still nothing compared to my eye.... it is my hope that this will help and that it will all heal quite well in the end... as far as a lawsuit, im not sure what will happen. i've had folks say to hurry up and get on it, others have said that you have to have lasting effects in order to sue. im not sure what the hell to do about that part.... but i know one thing for sure, had i have known that having this surgery would rob me off my vision for however long this lasts, there is NO WAY in hell i would have done this ! i miss my life, i miss 'seeing' my children, i miss simple things like watching tv, reading, being able to walk through stores and crowded places, driving, my beading .... thats a big one, i miss making my jewelry and im afraid that with this show comming up in 2 weeks i wont be prepared the way i should be.... anyway, enough whining, im still here, im still alive, and im still smiling - even though sometimes i dont want to, thats the kinda person i am. i miss you all very much, but this computer screen makes it hard to look at for long... i'll be back when i can, and i'll keep you up to date as there are new things that happen. i think you are all wonderful and i thank you for your kind words and your thoughts and prayers, they mean so much OH ! one other thing... i was kinda giggling the morning of surgery, i was there, nervous as hell, and wishing i could have been anywhere else but where i was, mom gave me a magazine to read. on one of the pages, there were clothes and things that were on some type of show of some kind... anyway, there was a DVD sitting in the middle of there that didnt have ANYTHING to do with anything.... and it was purple rain i know this doesnt mean shit, but in my mind, it was all of you saying that you were there with me, and thinking of me and it brought a strange sense of peace to me, i hope you understand what im saying.... thank you wait, one more thing, i got an MSN message from dex, i have yet to check the threads, but have you seen him lately ????? he cut all that beautiful hair off thats almost as upsetting to me as all this stupid shit i just went through lol.... hope he saved me one like he said he would and he still looks hot as hell, sorry BJB - you know i loves ya girl but your man is hot as hell... think we could share him for a night ? thats it guys, thats all i have for ya... im off to go lay down hugs and kisses - NPP [Edited 6/2/06 16:26pm] just returned from the eye doctor's appointment today, it is very concerning to both of us why my vision is not comming back... he did an even MORE intense exam, and said he would see me in two days, if the vision is not better by then, he's convinced that its in the retina area, and i would need to see a specialist... if this is the case, it may not be something they can fix.... im not in pain now, but, im very sad with this news... lots of prayers guys, i need my eye back... I found something...
Treatment The most common treatment is to patch the eye tightly. This allows the damaged corneal epithelium to heal. Patching the eye also reduces the pain by preventing the blinking eyelid from irritating the affected area. Since both eyes move together and the eye is most painful when it moves, it is often helpful to rest the other eye as well. An antibiotic may be recommended to prevent infection. Anesthetic drops can relieve pain and facilitate examination but may keep the eye from healing properly if used repeatedly. Long after an abrasion has healed it may spontaneously recur, and is often noticeable upon awakening in the morning. Recurrent corneal erosions often require repeat patching, or the use of ointments at bedtime. Sometimes a soft or bandage-type contact lens is used to facilitate healing. Occasionally, treatment of the corneal surface with minor surgery is necessary to prevent recurrences. A corneal erosion or abrasion usually heals within a week. It is important not to rub your eye during the healing process. The new epithelial cells are fragile and can easily be rubbed off. When this occurs, the pain returns and repatching is necessary. If bacteria get into the tissues under the protective corneal epithelium, infection or a corneal ulcer can result. These complications can be very serious and cause loss of vision when they occur. Proper care by you and your ophthalmologist is necessary to help prevent such serious consequences. http://www.kellogg.umich....sions.html

I hope they gave you a hard plastic eye protector to put over the patch, It'll help you keep your eye safe when you sleep and lessen the chance you'll rub it when it's healing. I hope they're not stingy with the anesthetic drops. They should stream the anesthetic in,not just put a couple drops in. Your sight should gradually return as you heal but you might be light sensitive for a while. After it heals you might want to use artificial tears to keep your eye nice and moist. I hope you feel better soon. [Edited 5/31/06 16:13pm] "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

Oh, gawd.
I saw this chart once that was designed for dosing pain control, and they put corneal abrasions in the same category as broken bones, as far as intensity of pain. That sucks, girlie. Glad you're doing ok otherwise. Rest. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!
