"Would u be a happy BOY or a girl?"

I never understood this sentence from D&P. The lyrics are those of a love song but how can P ask a girl if she'd be a happy BOY? eek

Any clarification is much welcome, thanks wink

He's just addressing both sexes so it can be a song for everyone or you can think it's a bout him taking it up the ass, take ur pick.

Oh lawd, it's not that difficult. The meaning behind it all is that it doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman if your only desire is wealth. "(What) if I gave you diamonds and pearls? Would you (then) be a happy boy or a girl (with Rosie singing "Would you be happier, baby?")?"

Why does this nonsense crop up every couple of months.

It's as simple as this: It's JUST A LYRIC. It's like Michael Jackson saying "doggone". Paul McCartney protested the word, saying it as too vapid or banal. MJ argued that it wasn't about every single word sometimes, it's about the bigger picture, the longer lyric, the vibe of the song. The same applies here. It's often about the bigger picture, not EVERY. SINGLE. WORD.

Not a big deal. Move on, nothing to see here.

This is quite true (think about "when she makin' love it's like surgery" - if you don't listen that closely to every single word, it sounds perfect and the picture is perfect too. It's more of a sexual healing than a real operation or something...).

Then again, in this case I do think that Prince tried to point out something by singing "boy or a girl", and it's what I posted before.

I've always thought he was bi, so I don't have a problem with it. As a JW though, I think he changed his lifestyle.

honesty i thought it was about prince's future child...not Gregory per say but the song was about the thought of having a child in the future (had to clean this up so people wont get the wrong idea)

since the male determines the sex ...

i thought he was singing to a future child ...would you be a happy boy or a girl

plus their were children teddy in the video biggrin

its like hes taking to the future mother of his child and future child

The line ends too early with: "Would u be a happy girl?" So he added 3 words. Why does everyone here always search for hidden messages or other strange stuff. I doubt it was meant so deep lol

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

I would be a happy girl! Only if I were hot though. I would have a look at my tits every hour and become a lesbian. I would let all the desperate guys pay my drinks and then smack them in their stupid faces, they can't hit girls anyway.

Absolutely agree.

No metaphor no deep meaning...just a few sylables short of a line.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

HA No you haven't. This just seems to come up a lot. Also, the "boy or a girl" line in "Anna Stesia" comes up too.

No - its to do with the fact that he is addressing both sexes! That's not deep, its not intended to be, but he DOES mean to address both boys and girls. Are you trying to suggest that he would not be able to find a melody or extend the way he sings "Would you be a happy girl?" if that's what he meant?

He sings "Would you be a happy boy or a girl" because that is what he means. And if you have disdain for "hidden messages", art within poetry and lyrics, you can go back to reading Spot the Dog or a book of nursery rhymes rolleyes

Just wrong. The words used in many lyrics (not all) and certainly poetry are specific and intended. Each word is vital.

And your example is irrelevant (and, ironically, its Macartney that's being "banal", if that's what he said!)

Hell, if I were a girl I'd be having 8 or 9 dicks at the same time. Hell, it's very easy for a woman to get all the dicks they want, they just don't want them. Seems a damn shame to let all them dicks go to waste. lol

Somebody will get that.

maybe by giving god diamonds and pearls (even though he/she/it doesnt need it)

prince is showing his devotion to god

If I gave U diamonds and pearls
Would U be a happy boy or a girl?
If I could I would give U the world
But all I can do is just offer U my love

pretty much saying if i could give you all the precious worldly things i would

i even give you all that is me

but i can only offer you my love

.....either thats all god wants is love or thats all prince can offer is his love shrug

I thought it was a well known meaning behind that line...

Prince is offering blood diamonds and illegally harvested pearls to a lover who is about to undergo gender realignment and he's asking which option the will go for - boy or girl

The next line he's offering up his own penis (his 'love') as spare parts for the op

Fact smile

Don't forget that the 80% of the dicks are ugly, as well as their owners. Half of those people are super desperate and think they deserve you etc etc.... Now that I think of it, I don't want to be a hot girl anymore lol
