I watched when Adele won the two big awards to close the show and was asking myself "Why is she being so apologetic?"
It's one thing to be humble and another thing to overdo it. You won the award and rightfully so. Stop the apologizing for your work winning over Beyonce's. The over apologizing cheapened her victory to the point it seemed as if I expected her to vacate the award. You won, Beyonce lost. Move on....

So Adele won but what did she do that took integrity?[Edited 2/12/17 21:05pm] I'm pleasantly surprised Beyonce didn't win AoTY but honestly, Adele should've just accepted the award, said her thanks and went on about her business instead of trying to cushion Beyonce's loss. I'm also pleasantly surprised Drake won nothing with his most commercially successful album. Views was by no means AoTY material but I thought it would win something. Also, shame on the NARAS for nominating Purpose over Anti, no Bieber album should ever be a nominee for Album if the Year. Overall, this is probably the best Grammys we've had in years. It wasn't spectacular and had many miscues and drawbacks but overall was a good show. [Edited 2/13/17 6:48am]

I thought it was a very pussyfoot thing to do. Get your award and move on. Beyonce have a lot of Grammys more then some of the greats. I don't think you should do music only to get an award.

Just a side note: Beyonce's Lemonade placed 2nd on the Pazz and Jop critics poll for 2016. Meanwhile, out of over thirteen hundred albums that did chart, Adele's 25 wasn't among any of them, at least not that I could tell. I kinda fell out with beyonce this time around. But I liked every single I've heard so far, and the videos seem to have a unifying theme and purpose (hence her "visual album") that accompanies the release. What I'm getting at is that maybe, just maybe, Beyonce actually deserved it this year. Sure she's over-rewarded, but not in major catagories. And with Frank Ocean and Solange absent from the catagory, and Beiber almost making the catagory useless, it makes it even more so obvious.

[Edited 2/13/17 7:14am] While it does take integrity to do what she did, like COMPUTERBLUE said, she went overboard with it. Not saying she didn't really feel she was undeserving of the award or she couldn't say that she thought Beyonce should have won but it was too much. Besides, Beyonce has more Grammys to her name than she should so she'll live. God forbid Beyonce not win something for once. I guess I'll take Adele openly stating she didn't deserve to win over Macklemore not saying a thing onstage when accepting the Rap AotY Grammy a few years ago and instead screenshotting his text to Kendrick and posting it on IG for the world to see.

Also, what about the ridiculous 22 Grammys Beyonce already has to her name? The Grammys have history with displaying cultural bias (i.e. Kendrick coming up short to Macklemore and Taylor) but this is just a cop-out to soften Beyonce's loss.

I will say I see parallels with Kendrick losing to Taylor last year and Beyonce losing to Adele this year. Both black artists who made socially-conscious albums (Kendrick at least; I don't plan on listening to Lemonade) that lost to the higher selling pop album of their white contemporaries. It's a reasonable comparison until you look at the fact that while Beyonce may have never won AotY, she has more than 20 Grammys to her name already while Kendrick has 7 (1 of which for a collab with Taylor Swift), which I am sure was simply because the Grammy committee were trying to redeem themselves for the Macklemore fiasco but only juat enough so that the bland pop making "feminist" princess could retain her throne. I'm just tired of all the excuses people have to make for Beyonce when she doesn't come out on top every time. What they need to make mention of is Justin Bieber's milquetoast comeback album being nominated over Anti which was a seminal album for Rihanna. [Edited 2/13/17 8:03am]

Now looking at the Grammy album of the year award black artist really don't seem to win the big categories. Album of the year 2017 Adele 2016 Taylor Swift 2015 Beck 2014 Daft Punk 2013 Mumford and Sons 2012 Adele 2011 Arcade Fire 2010 Taylor Swift 2009 Robert Plant & Allison Krauss 2008 Herbie Hancock (This was consolation win the Joni letter is ass) 2007 Dixie Chicks 2006 U2 2005 Ray Charles (He died in 2004 another make up for lost time consolation win ) One black person in 10 years 2 in 12 won when albums like To Pimp A Butterfly, Good Kidd MADD City, Graduation, Lemonade, The Diary of Alicia Keys, Confessions, The College Dropout, Late Registration, the carter 3 ( like it or hate him this was lil Wayne at his best and it was good) channel orange (this was a good frank album).

I agree with both of these posts. It really cheapened her victory and she reverted attention away from her and place it on Beyonce. If she felt Beyonce deserved AOTY why did she submit 25 for consideration? Why did she break her award in half instead of giving Beyonce the whole award? Its very nauesauting how it seems everytime someone loses to Beyonce they have to ALSO acknowledge Beyonce. Why can't others have their OWN time to shine!? Beyonce has over 20 grammys (and she doesn't even deserve that) ! Adele rightfully won and deserves to be proud of her honor. She didn't have to save face by kissing Beyonce's ass because we all know Beyonce would not have done that for her.

Yeah, Because black music has been crushed, overwhelmed, exploited, and tapped out by everything surrounding it It doesn't exist anymore The remnants have been snatched too

LOL that is so true Beyonce wouldn't have done the same, UNLESS she was consulted that Adele was a forgone conclusion to win. That way it could curry favor for her. My theory is that they were too quick to over-reward her in the past, and since she was never in any danger of winning major catagories they were all too happy to do so. Now that she is actually a contender, people point to the shipload of awards she's already won. I don't see her making anything better than Lemonade in her career so her AOTY prospects are probably over. Not to compare but she's no Solange. I can see her only getting better.

Solange really needs to sit down. She was geeking out and laughing it up in the photo ops at the Grammy's and if she felt the Grammy's weren't ish she would not have submitted her album for consideration. So she can save the faux outrage. I am so tired of these fake afrocentrics. Frank Ocean is the only one about that life because he actually made a loud statement by not submitting any of his music. THAT's making a protest. These Black artists of today's generation are very entitled and always cry racism when they don't get their way. The biggest problem is tokenism and the fact that Kanye, Jay Z and Beyonce are always showered with Grammys while other acts like Drake and Rihanna are snubed illustrates that perfectly. Beyonce didn't win AOTY because she doesn't deserve it not because she is Black and its absurd anyone would even insinuate that she has over 20 grammys!

Yep exactly these people like Kanye Beyoncé can't really complain because they have tons of Grammys but niether has won the big award when Kanye certainly deserved it at least once and Beyoncé forget all the queen shit lemonade was just good and showed a lot of growth and was really different for Beyoncé. Solange has a lot a room to grow in the public eyes because a sit at the table is her commercial breakthrough Beyoncé been on the scene for years.
