The audio comes from a 1985 session in which Bowie started spouting impersonations of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Iggy Pop and more while working with producer Mark Saunders. Following his death earlier this month, Saunders revealed that he taped the session, and shared the audio with The Talkhouse.
“At the end of the session, he broke into the impersonations and I realized that these might get erased at some point, so I quickly put a cassette in and hit ‘record,’” says Saunders. Along with Bowier, the producer has worked with artists like The Cure, Tricky and Neneh Cherry.
